Hi, Anyone going on the 14 July trek in Ladakh? My daughter and I are going out a few days early to acclimatise and explore volunteering opportunities as she is staying for a few months. Really looking forward to it already - need to get fit though!

Leh/Ladakh - 31st Mar 2012 - 6:24pm
Hi Valerie - good to hear from you. Thanks for the suggestion - will let you know where we're staying. We'll arrive on the morning of Friday 13th, so plan to do very little at first. Think there is a festival at Phyang that weekend so may try to go there. Any other suggestions welcome! Have you got any recommendations for book/s to read? - I've just read Ancient Futures which is interesting about the impact of "development" on the area - hope to read something more and learn a little about Buddhism there.
Leh and books etc - 19th May 2012 - 7:03am
Good place to stay is Yartsa Guest house (not Karzu as I said before). Lovely lady and nice simple Ladakhi house - I stay there when not with a group. Good book to read is Ladakh Crossroads of High Asia by Janet Rizvi. Can buy it in Leh at indian prices - there is a good bookshop in the market opposite the monastery in town - great choice of books. Andrew Harvey book also good. Great little rooftop cafe above the bookshop as well with great views of the town. If you need any help in Leh go to Venture Ladakh in Changspa and speak to Chospel - he is one of our Exodus leaders.
