The tour was a mixture of cycling and touring and we saw everything that I wanted to see in Vietnam. It was a gastronomic tour of note. The Format was excellent. We personally would have liked more cycling.... as South Africans we clearly have a different view of what the 'moderate' classification meant... we would happily have cycled 100km each morning and then spent the afternoon enjoying the destination. We spent a huge amount of time waiting for slow members of the party at the regular stops along the way.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Coming down the pass from the Mountain Park after overnighting in Dalat. 1500m descent in 30km with countless waterfalls on either side of the road was unforgettable.
What did you think of your group leader?
Our group leader Chi was fabulous. He was always calm and had a sparkling sense of humor. In his own right he is a very good cyclist but patiently rode with the weakest members of the tour. I believe that the tour would not have been the success it was without him.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Do some proper training, be able to ride at at least 23km per hour for 3 hours, do at least a non-stop 80km ride self-supported, know how to use a water bottle in a cage on a bike..... all cycling basics. Unfortunately the cycling can only be as fast as the slowest rider and these basics will make it much more enjoyable for those who are stronger cyclists than you.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Chi was fantastic. I would ask for him if I did it again.  Thoroughly enjoyed the 'touring' aspect of the tour. Loved Vietnam and it was a gastronomic tour of note.

A beautiful country with fantastic food and superb cycling, it was just as we'd imagined it would be.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
From learning to cross the road in Saigon (yep its an art form), to eating spring rolls in the winding back streets of Hoi An to cycling through tiny fishing villages, paddy fields and up beautiful coastal mountain passes - Cycling Vietnam is a delight for all the senses.
What did you think of your group leader?
Lam was incredibly relaxed, very knowledgeable and sociable with amazing restaurant and food recommendations.  He was a joy to cycle with (especially on some of the tougher hills) and he ran his team like clockwork.  Couldn't have asked for better.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
You won't be disappointed - this trip is everything it promises to be.  Bring your waterproofs for the inevitable downpours and leave some space in your bag for souvenirs.

What a blast! This has to be one of the best holidays I've had; the moments of comedy genius still make me chuckle. Hopefully 'the Journal' will be published, but I guess 'you had to be there'. They say people make the holiday - and it's true. The leader and his team, together with my fellow adventurers, made it a truly memrable time. everyone shoudl have a holiday like this.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Seeing us all conquer the Hai Van Pass. Brilliant!!

Cycling through the villages - with high 5's from the kids, as we past, and hearing them laugh at the 'long noses' (us). Truly uplifting, and I felt honoured to be cycling through this amazing country

What did you think of your group leader?
Long - he was great; really interested to give us the history of the areas; laughed with us. whenever I see a fish market, it will remind me of him. He seemed to be keen to show us one in every town!
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Yes - take a head camera, so that you can film the 33km 1500m descent (Bidoup-Nui Ba National Park.) Truly awesome 1 hour downhill .WOW
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Anotehr day in Hoi An woudl have been nice. there are some fabulous hotels along the route, the last hotel in Hanoi was dis-appoiting - apart from the rat in my room (on 5th floor) it was the least friendly and 'expensive' by loca standards. Also the local taxi the hotel arranged for the airport transfer demanded more money at the toll ... we did fear somewhat that he was going to turf us out. (out of 15 days though that was the worst thing that happened - a shame to end the trip on that note)

One of the best Exodus trips I've been on and I've been on quite a few; a fantastic welcoming country, with great scenery and tasty food, and the itinerary was exceptional. Not a trip if you want a lazy holiday !

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

The thing that most inspired me and restored my faith in `humanity` was the welcome from the people, especially the children who waved and shouted hello wherever we rode. The riders in the Tour de France couldn't have had a better reception.

The opportunities to undertake other activities was better than expected, and included snorkelling, parascending, kayaking, as well as a cookery lesson. And the overnight cruise in Halong Bay was superb.

And the cycling wasn't bad either, with one awesome and some moresome descent of 30 kilometers !

Mind you, it did get pretty hot as well; and when it rains, you know it, but carry on cycling anyway 'cos you'll soon dry out.

What did you think of your group leader?

Chi Nguyen, was very hard working; always available to help or translate, well organised and a dry sense of humour.  Both himself  and his team couldn't be faulted.

Apparently he is very good at kareoke as well, but that's just his opinion!

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Just go for it, and enjoy !
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Don't wait too long to go to Vietnam, as it could soon get too westernised and lose some of it's beautiful charm.

The good - Very well organised trip, excellent standard of accommodation, great guides and support team, a wonderful country. The bad - a bit slow going at times and a high average age, making it not so good for younger solo travellers. Overall, though, a superb way to experience Vietnam.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

On two wheels, reaching the top of the Hai Van pass and realising that I've completed the trip, just a year after suffering near fatal head and leg injuries in a cycling accident. Off the bike, the real highlight was Halong Bay. The bay is stunning, the boat was very good and the food on board was exceptional.

There are so many others. Crossing the road in Saigon. All the kids shouting hello as you ride past. Sharing utterly disgusting food with Vietnamese rail workers on the Reunification Express. Swimming in the south china sea.

What did you think of your group leader?
Chi was very friendly, knowledgable, always smiling and very energetic. A brilliant group leader.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
The average age of this group was about 50, maybe more.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
If you're a keen cyclist and very fit, this tour would be too slow. If you like a more relaxed pace, you'll be very happy.

This is an action packed holiday and anyone that likes cycling can have a great time. I had only been on small wheel fold up bike before cycling in London and found this holiday was a fantastic way to see the people and the country. Anyone reasonable fit can do this trip because you have good group staff and support.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
In Saigon you must visit the War Renmants museum and for me cycling the 103 km from Dalat past villages and forests was just out of this world. Meeting the local ethnic people along the way made this a great bike ride. To finish up with a 30 km down hill fast ride in the forest made a great way to end the day after some up hill climbs. Every day was different with other good cycling days and I was please to cycle up the Hai Van Pass even if it was not that easy I made it to the top and then it was all down hill. The food in Vietnam was good and very cheap in the places where we stayed. The beaches with golden sands and deep blue water are some of the best I have seen in the world.
What did you think of your group leader?
Our group leader was Lam and his staff helped out to made this a real great cycling holiday.  Lam made the holiday and with his staff we had good stops for rest every 15 to 20 km. So it was not so hard to ride 100 km in one day and after the fist few days you got use to longer days.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Best take good cycling cloths like pedded shorts as you will need them. A must is a long sleeved cycling shirt if you are not used to the sun you will burn and plentry of good sun protection and after sun. Gel cvover for the bike saddle can be of use.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
If you like cycling then go for this holiday and you will have the time of you life and it a great way to see the country.
