- Cycle through spectacular desert scenery
- Visit Petra, the magnificent rose-red city
- Camp under the stars in the Wadi Rum

Jordan is an ideal place for a one-week cycle tour with incredibly varied desert scenery and a wealth of historic and archaeological treasures, not least at Petra, unarguably one of the most spectacular sites in the world.
This is a fantastic week where the cycling is a thrilling compliment to the cultural activities. The cycling does not involve great distances but we do cover a range of landscapes which get us closer to the environment we are visiting and gives us a more intimate insight into this fascinating country. In one week it would be hard to fit much more in.
The cycling will see us explore the fertile region to the north of Amman, pedaling through the olive groves and small villages. Known as the bread-basket of Jordan this area is also the most populated and was once of great significance in the Roman period. As a result Gerasa, now known as Jerash, was established and became one of the wealthiest and luxurious of the self-governing Decapolis.
We will have a morning to explore and absorb the atmosphere of this incredible place. Our journey will then take in the spectacular views from Mt Nebo before we embark on a fantastic descent to the Dead Sea. Here we will have time to relax and nourish the skin before we begin 2 full days exploring the ancient city of Petra, the highlight for many visitors to Jordan.
For the first day we will leave the bikes behind and explore this vast site by foot on trails that take us away from the crowds and give a sense of what it might have been like to live here as a Nabatean. Once we have been stunned by the sites and sounds of Petra we will then commence the best riding day of the trip through the desert of Wadi Araba.
This is an incredible and exhilarating day on an unforgettable road and the fullest and best day of cycling. To complete our trip we will have time to relax in the Red Sea and then star-gaze in the Wadi Rum in our private camp before heading back to Amman.
What makes this trip responsible?
Our small group sizes ensure that we limit our impact whilst cycling throughout Jordan. Throughout our visit we support the economy of small villages and communities that we pass through, using their smaller restaurants, traders and shops. Whilst in Wadi Rum you will be looked after by a local Bedouin family. This family makes sure that everything that we need for our stay comes from the local community. This will include food, transportation and optional camel treks provided by the local owners cooperative. Pedalling under our own steam we help the economy of the small villages and communities that we pass through, using their smaller restaurants, traders and shops.
