Exodus Policy on Travel to Sri Lanka following FCO Travel Advice

Exodus is shocked and saddened by the horrendous attacks that took place in Sri Lanka on Easter day and our hearts go out to all those affected by the terrible events. We are grateful to be able to confirm that all our customers and staff are safe and well.

Exodus notes that the United Kingdom Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) Travel Advice for Sri Lanka was updated on 25 April to advise against all but essential travel to Sri Lanka, and we encourage all those concerned to read the advice in detail.

Exodus’ policy around travel to the country is therefore as follows.

If you are an Exodus customer currently in Sri Lanka

  • We have been in touch with our local manager and tour leaders to ensure they brief each group on the change in advice. At this point in time, we plan to stick to the amended final day plans communicated to them earlier this week, and therefore the international flights remain as booked.

If you are due to travel to Sri Lanka before 1 July 2019

  • Exodus has taken the decision to cancel all trips due to travel to Sri Lanka before 1 July. Our Customer Operations team are in the process of contacting all those booked to discuss transfers or refunds.

If you are due to travel to Sri Lanka between 1 July and 30 September 2019

  • As the situation is likely to remain uncertain and the advice could change again, we have taken the decision not to cancel any of our Sri Lanka trips during this period at this stage.
  • Customers who wish to transfer their booking to an alternative holiday can of course do so for no fee, or can choose to hold their deposit with Exodus until they are able to confirm their plans.  Please contact Customer Operations to discuss your options (details below).
  • If the advice remains in place, we will review each departure at 8 and 6 weeks before travel to decide if the trip should go ahead and at this point we will be in touch with all customers. If trips are cancelled, then all customers will still be able to transfer their booking at that point, or take a full refund of all money paid to Exodus.

If you are due to travel to Sri Lanka after 30 September 2019

  • At this point in time we are not planning to cancel any of our planned trips beyond 30 September and we remain hopeful that the security situation may improve and travel advice may change to enable us to operate the tours as planned.
  • We will continue to monitor advice and will update our policy for departures during this period by 30 June 2019, or earlier if the situation changes.

Contacting Exodus

Please call our Customer Operations team on 0845 863 9643 during office hours or email [email protected]. If you need assistance in a genuine emergency please call our out-of-hours Duty Office on 00 44 (0)844 326 7041.

Our Standard Policy on Travel Security

Our overall policy towards security advice from the FCO is shown below:

  • We will always follow FCO advice, and we will not operate tours to areas where the advice is against all non-essential travel. Where we cancel tours for this reason, passengers will be offered a transfer to an alternative tour or a full refund.
  • Decisions about when to cancel upcoming tours are made on a rolling basis, as the advice can change at any time. Where the advice for a country is temporarily against all non-essential travel, we will not normally cancel tours more than 6 weeks before the date of travel.
  • The safety of our clients is always our highest concern and we will continue to monitor the situation. Updates will be added to this web page as and when they become available.

Tours in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka tours have a magic all of their own, with sandy, palm-fringed beaches, jewelled cultural treasures and magical chance encounters with elephants all on offer. Visit the ancient rock fortress at Sigiriya, rising high above the rainforest canopy; see elephants in their natural environment, tugging at the grass and grazing on palm fronds; and watch out for darting leopards too.

Part of the adventure of a Sri Lanka holidays is getting around. Explore paddy fields by bike; lose yourself in maze-like rows of highland tea plantations; and let juddering tuk-tuks zip you through the underbrush to hidden expanses of beach.

Tours to Sri Lanka provide a fantastic mix of culture, history, people, food, wildlife and beaches, and Exodus – with the help of our expert local guides – promises to get you closer to the action than anyone else. Find your dream adventure below.
