Request a brochure and find your perfect European cycling holiday.

What are the best cycling holidays in Europe for experienced cyclists?

If you’re a more experienced cyclist looking for something more challenging, we have several cycling holidays in Europe that will test your stamina and your mettle. You could tackle the off-road tracks and steep climbs of northern Spain along the Camino de Santiago de Compostela, explore the ancient castles of the South Wales Coast or ride through the Douro Valley, sampling some of the world’s finest wines en route. One of the greatest yet most exciting of all the cycling holidays in Europe is in North Macedonia and North Albania where you’re rewarded with views across lush gorges and emerald lakes.

Do I need to train for the cycling trips?

While many of our leisurely trips require no experience, you will still be cycling for at least a couple of hours a day and you should therefore prepare accordingly.

If you are looking at booking one of our challenging cycling trips you need to have a good level of fitness, and previous experience of cycling for long distances is essential.

We want you to get the most out of your holiday, so if you are in any doubt about the activity level of your desired cycling tour in Europe, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

How do I train for a cycling holiday?

Our cycling holidays in Europe are designed to be fun and enjoyable and will introduce you to some of the most incredible scenery, but it’s important that you choose the right kind of tour to suit your ability. Whichever cycling trip you decide on, you will need some degree of fitness. Make sure you improve your cardiovascular fitness and strengthen your legs and back before you go.

The best way to train for a cycling holiday is to cycle! By gradually increasing your mileage in advance of your holiday, tackling a few hills and cycling on different surfaces, you’ll build up your stamina and the muscles in your legs. It’s also worth cycling beforehand in different types of weather and make sure you get accustomed to carrying your kit with you too. If you do find that the weather really isn’t suitable for cycling on some days, head to the leisure centre for a spin class, swimming or a gym workout. Check out our cycling fitness plan for more in-depth training ideas.

What can I expect on a cycling holiday in Europe?

Our cycling holidays in Europe vary depending on their activity level. The levels range from leisurely and moderate to challenging, so of course, there will be different expectations for each. Our cycling fitness plan gives you more information about each activity level and what you can expect.

We offer both guided and self-guided cycling holidays. On our guided trips, you can expect a highly experienced tour leader who will guide you along carefully planned routes among breathtaking scenery. On many of the trips, the routes are a combination of tarmac roads, cycle paths and off-road tracks. Local bike hire is included, and E-bikes are also available on request. On both self-guided and guided tours, accommodation, a selection of meals and luggage transfers are included. Our self-guided cycling holidays in Europe also include the RideWithGPS navigation app and GPS route directions.

Are the cycling trips guided?

The majority of our amazing cycling holidays in Europe are self-guided, giving you the freedom to explore at your own pace. With our detailed route notes to hand you can discover Europe your way. We will of course still arrange your luggage transfers if you’re moving from base to base.

Our more challenging tours through mountain passageways, across borders and along ancient terrain are led by experienced guides. Not only will you get a unique insight into local life, but you’ll have friendly fellow cyclists to share the journey with too.

Either way, you’ll be able to discover the best of Europe on two wheels.

How long are your cycling trips in Europe?

You can enjoy one of our cycling trips in Europe in as little as four days, or if you are looking for a more immersive experience you can enjoy up to 15 days exploring Europe by bike.

All our trips have been tailored to ensure you get the most out of your cycling holiday in Europe with adequate time to enjoy the route and explore the beautiful terrain you’re traversing.

This Jordan adventure was the perfect blend of history, adventure, and natural beauty. We cycled through stunning landscapes, from the rose-red canyons of Petra, where ancient wonders appear around every corner, to the vast, cinematic desert of Wadi Rum, under a sky full of stars. Along the way, we enjoyed gems like Aqaba, with its warm Red Sea waters and vibrant coral reefs, and the Dead Sea Resort, where floating in the salt-rich water was the ultimate reset after days of exploration.

The trip was thoughtfully designed, combining active adventure with cultural immersion.

Karabo Motaung Petra & Wadi Rum by Bike

We did this tour after a week in the North doing the golden triangle so it was nice to sample the north and the south of India – they are very different. The cycle routes were fabulous and as were in the main flat within most people’s ability. The tour should be named cycling the backwaters and coast of Kerala as more time is spent in the backwaters than on the coast – not a complaint as the backwaters are fabulous. The night on the houseboat was amazing and the home stay was better than we expected. A great way of seeing the area.

From the day I met Claudio in San Pedro to my last day in Salta.
I have seen so many different landscapes, cycling on so many different roads.
Was great to cycle on a salt lake, in narrow canyons, in a the devils’s throat on a road above 4000m in the middle of the puna among lamas and vicunias, in a forest along lakes or in the middle of vineyards and cactus !
