Costa Rica

just a quick question - is a mosquito net necessary at all in CR?

Two friends are recently back from holidays (in Rhodes and Thailand) and both reported unprecedented mossie activity and got smothered in bites despite sprays etc... so it seems like the little blighters might be rather virulent this year!!

 Thanks!

I'd say that most people do not take nets with them, but it's never a bad thing if you're particularly susceptible to bites from the little pests. Some of the hotels and lodges you'll be staying at will supply them (and have them hanging ready above your bed), but having your own, freshly soaked in DEET will provide better protection.

Ultimately, it's your call as to how much they bother you in the night. Personally, if it's not too hot, I find it very comforting to be sleeping under a mosquito net when in the forest and so tend to take them.
