galapagos - how much cash to take

I am off to the galapagos islands in a couple of weeks and wondered if anyone had any advice on how much money to take. I am doinng the aag glapagos islands trip and guessing there will be not much chnace to get money when we are underway so want to make sure i take enough.

taking into account immiration charges, departure tax, snorkle hire, a day trip, food and drinks and tips I am thinking about £500 does this sound about right.

Hi, it's great to hear that you're getting prepared for your Galapagos trip! Bear in mind that all of your food will be included whilst on the boat, so your main expenses will be drinks, souvenirs, some tips and other incidentals. You cannot pay using credit card on the boat but if you take £500 this should cover your spending for the whole trip. Cash machines are available in Quito as well. Have a great time! I forgot to add that it's better to take US dollars rather than GB Pounds - I'd suggest changing your cash into dollars before you leave!

This worked well (per person) last year:

National park entry $1103 days in Quito (lunch, dinner, drinks, taxis etc) $150Crew tip $100 (a couple of dollars per crew member per day)Guide tip $35 ($5 a day)Alcoholic drinks on boat $50 (more if you want wine!)There was a departure tax from Quito airport ($41) but this should now be included in your air ticket.TOTAL  $486So £500 should be more than enough. As Vicky says, take US dollars with you (Ecuador uses the US dollar as its national currency, but they have their own coins). Make sure you take small(ish) notes - nothing bigger than a $20 bill, and get a lot of small notes ($1 and $5). Taxi drivers never have change for a $10 or $20 bill ;-)

brilliant, thanks a lot
