A rather tough walk through a Safari Park!

Hi, is anyone off on this spectacular trip? My friend Julie and I have just signed up, and already starting the training!

Hi Caroline

My friend Barbara and I are also going on this trip leaving Heathrow on the 18th.
Looking forward to it although nervous about the altitude sickness. Have started training using the Lake District hills and have just joined a gym.

Hi Marion (and Barbara) - good to know it's not just us that are a little worried. The gym training is going well, although, I'd much rather be outside that on the cross trainer in this nice weather! Julia and I have been doing the Lakes too - it's only an hour away from where we live near Manchester. There is even a plan to go to Snowdon next weekend for a little walk!

I'm not sure of the best plan for altitude though - think all you can do is be as fot as you can be, and hope for the best. So far, touch wood, I have been lucky at altitude, but Julie hasn't ever been high enough to know.  If you fancy joining up for some walks in the summer, just let me know - keep us all going with the training!

Hi Ladies, sounds like we are all on the same trip! My friend (Alison) and I have signed up for the Killi and safari trip, departing Heathrow on the 18th. Am really nervous, and working hard on the training. Mainly gym, some walks at the weekend and we did climb Snowdon Easter but it's all a bit daunting!  I'm up in the north west so if there are any training walks on the go I'd love to join you!!

Sounds like there are at least 6 of us on this trip all females and all based in the north west. We are in St Annes and would be happy to meet in the lakes for a walk. Weekends are best for us, so perhaps we can arrange something.

Hi Marion,

That sounds like a plan - although Alison is actually in Sussex so she won't be able to join probably. I'm working on gym stuff at the mo, although I did do an 11 mile walk round Lymm Park and the peaks yesterday-  and felt it on the last mile!!  Maybe we can put some dates in the diary and see who can join. It'd be good to meet up before anyway - I kind of suspect we'll all have to get each other up this mountain! :-)

Hi all, It does sound like we're all from the NW! Julie and I live in Warrington, so peaks and the lakes are easy to reach for us too, but most definitely on the weekend! Nice work on the 11 mile walk - the first one seems to be the hardest - a bit like going to the gym!

Happy to meet up somewhere if you like - I'll have look at some walks in the lakes, and see if we can perhaps arrange a day. Not the best at map reading, but learning as I go!

Hi Caroline, I'm in Warrington too, so that should work out well! Yep, if you can have a look at the Lakes, I have OS maps of Snowdonia and the North lakes (but like you I'm not so hot on map reading.. the walk we did on Sat was supposed to be 8.5 miles but we got a little bit lost!!).

Hi everyone, not long to go! Hope the training is going well? Had a bit of a set back after twisting the old ankle, but on the road to recovery!

Think I'm just about there with all the kit.... Lookign forward to it now!

Hi All,

Barbara and I are planning on walking in the lakes the weekend of 20th and 21st of August, if anyone wants to join us you are more than welcome. Not sure which hills we will climb but possibly Fairfield horseshoe as this gives a good long walk over several hills.
Hope to see you soon.

Hi Marion - I would loved to have come along, but am on a pre-Kili holiday that week! I will be lookign at doinga few walks when I get back though, more than likely in the lakes! If you've got any others planned, just shout!

I'm off to see my fellow traveller Ali who lives near Brighton, so we're walking the south coast again. Going up to Scotland over the Bank Holiday to tackle a couple of Munro's. It's all getting very close now! How's everyone getting down to Heathrow - I'm flying down from Manchester. xx
