Amazon Rainforest A colourful macaw in the Amazon Rainforest Deep in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest, the trees quiver and shake with the sheer amount of wildlife that makes its home here. Immerse yourself in the sensory joy of the jungle and the shrieks, squawks and song of the 1,500 bird species found in the Amazon basin. The canopy here can be as high as 70m off the ground, and more than 40,000 species of plants can be found here. It’s this sheer variety which makes the rainforest so important, and such a privilege to visit. It’s one of the most relaxing ways to see a forest, gently drifting between the twisted roots that emerge from the water in seemingly impossible fashion. Here, you can trek through the dense foliage in the company of an experienced guide, armed with a machete to carve a route through the thick undergrowth in search of silverback gorillas. It’s an experience that often tops travellers’ bucket lists, and with good reason: an hour with a gorilla family is something you’ll never forget. These peaceful places are perfect for strolling, the most famous of which are close to the beautiful Kyoto – a wonderfully calm escape from the hustle and bustle of Japanese city life, especially if you're travelling with your family. In season these flowers line the trails, an absolutely stunning sight for trekkers in late March and April.
