Cycling in Latvia

Expert view: Cycling in Latvia

Cycling in Latvia means meandering through beautiful national parks and along idyllic coastal paths. On our Cycle the Baltics journey, travel through the bustling medieval city of Riga – the country’s capital, famous for its art nouveau buildings – then on to the beautiful town of Jurmala, with it’s unique wooden architecture and 19th-century Russian villas.

“Fantastically flat, and covering three seriously underrated countries, our Cycle the Baltics trip is a tour de force of experienced traveller kudos. Not many venture to Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania – which is half the appeal of these pleasingly quiet countries. Winding back roads reward relatively little effort with fantastically varied countryside, from wide windswept beaches to hushed pine forests, glistening lakes to picturesque castles perched atop hills. And you’ll hardly have to share it with a soul.”

What I liked most about the trip was learning about the history in all 3 regions. We also went to Poland so it gave a good picture of what happened during the world wars and their rebuilding and partnerships.

Mary Poniatowski Cycle the Baltics

Perfect cycling roads and paths through forests and near the lovely coast – and once actually on the beach. Brilliant guides, extremely interesting history and varied food. So flat that it’s also suitable for non cyclists. A unique opportunity to experience three countries and cultures. Lucky to have such an interesting group too and I really appreciated spending time with non Brits! And I was really impressed with all 3 countries which achieved independence from the USSR only 35 years ago – and their transformation is inspirational.
