Borneo Family Adventure

This is a great trip if you want to experience Sabah, Borneo. It is well organised and you see a lot, the orangutans are amazing. It is a good mixture of wildlife and culture and my son thoroughly enjoyed the trip at age 8. The people in Borneo are really friendly and it feels a safe place.

Most Inspirational Moment

The orangutans

Thoughts on Group Leader

The tour leader Roxanne was great with the children teaching them the language and imparting her knowledge at the right level for them, She is fun so the kids really take to her. She does the majority of the family trips .

Advice for Potential Travellers

My son had a great time on this trip at age 8 , personally I think the trip would be hard for a lot of 5 year olds as there are as few early morning starts and the trip is busy. However, this would depend on the individual child. My son is a seasoned traveller and would have managed it well at age 5. My son and I travel a lot independently but this trip was good for him as he was able to make friends with the other children on the trip. The kids on the trip got on well and it was great for him to travel with children from other countries. Try and give yourself a couple of days before or after the trip so you can take the short boat trip across to one or two of the islands off Kota Kinabalu.

Essential Peru

Essential Peru features an excellent itinerary and is well carried out on a comfortable bus with ample comfort and food stops. The gradual ascent into the highlands enables one to gradually get used to the altitude. There were more than a few early departures, but the rewards were great! Exodus fulfilled all its’ promises. Airport pickup and drop off were accomplished with no inconvenience. The hotels used on the trip were well beyond the bare bones that I was expecting. It was a wonderful experience!

Most Inspirational Moment

The night sky at Lake Titicaca was overwhelming. I kept getting up in the middle of the night to look again. I was surprised by the beauty of Colca Canyon and seeing the majestic condors rise out of the depths was very special. The Sacred Valley sites were a perfect lead in to the time at Macchu Picchu, which lived up to all the hype.!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Alex was superb! He made the trip work, successfully handling the needs of a diverse group and helping us to bond very nicely. On Day 1, when rough conditions cancelled our boat ride, he improvised a great backup plan. He advised on food, culture and alternatives. He thought of little things to make things more convenient, such large water containers on the bus and in the hotel so we each wouldn't have to keep buying bottles of water. I think we were lucky to have had him as our leader!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Expect to rise early and to be tired at the end of the day. In September the days were pleasant and the very cold nights in the highland didn't materialize, but layers of clothing is a good idea. Be open to new food experiences. Peru has a wonderful cuisine!

Great cycling in the great country

One of the best cycling trips I ever done – good cycling and a fantastic way to see and experience this beautiful country at its best. Stunning tropical scenery and misty mountains, good roads, ancient cities and timeless temples, smiling and welcoming people, scores of wild elephants, tranquil beaches, flavourful local food, famous tea and of course great cycling – what more can you ask for?! The trip has so much packed into it that every day brings something new and unexpected and something which will astonish and leave you with unforgettable memories. Cycling can be challenging from time to time but never boring or tedious. Highly recommended for all cycling enthusiasts!

Most Inspirational Moment

Too many to mention, every day brought a surprise. Climbing the soaring Rock of Sigirya, listening to the sacred chants at the ancient temples, cycling though paddy fields and quiet country roads amidst lush tropical scenery and birdsong, lunches in small local shops, challenging 2000 mt climb passing through tea plantations, getting close to wild elephants in the Uda Walawe national park, sunrise on the beach at the end of the trip - my list can go on and on. . And of course the exceptional local team that made it all possible - thank you guys

Suresh is an outstanding guide and a great person, who will go far beyond the call of duty to make sure you are enjoying your trip. His professionalism, organisational abilities, enthusiasm for his work, friendliness, profound knowledge and love for his country which he is doing his best to share with everyone - all these make the trip truly an exceptional experience. It is a privilege to have met somebody so dedicated to what he is doing and who treats you as a personal guest rather than a paying client.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Book ASAP :-). On the practical side it would pay to do some hill training before you go, you will be grateful you did on some days. Be careful to drink lots and lots of water throughout the day as it can get quite hot - as the heat is humid it is sometimes not as easy as it may sound because you may not feel thirsty.

backroads of sri lanka

This trip stands up there with one of the best i have done extremely well organised great people all locals always always had a smile on there face,Children appearing from nowhere just to say hello you wouldnt get that sort of welcome in this country!!!!!

Most Inspirational Moment

Two many to mention although one highlight was a brutal 2000m climb upto nurawa eliya really hard work in very very hot conditions but it was so rewarding when we reached our hotel the counrty club what a place that was i celabrated with several bottles of the local brew called lion!!! Also enjoyed climbing up to lion rock,swimming,3 head massages and 1 full body massage. I was really impressed with the cycling road conditions and beleive it or not felt much safer cycling in sri lanka than i do here the uk! One thing that i will remember was a 10KM streach just before a lunch stop i though it would never end was really difficult as the road was still under constuction couldnt fell my wrists when i arrived and was pouring with sweat!!!!!really hot!!!!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Suresh and his team did a fantasic job he deserves a medal always on hand night and day kept eveyone safe and although he had done the trip 47 times treated it as hs first very passionate about his country even went to the trouble to have a cake made for all of us after our brutal climb up to the country club at nurawa eliya. Also i though that it was a real nice when he gave us all a personalized map of sri lanka with a picture of myself in the middle which now hangs proudly in a frame on my wall. Thanks again suersh for making my holiday to sri lanka so memorable!!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Do plenty of training before going as this is a tough trip and it can be really hot and drink plenty of water

Fabulous trip!

This trip was everything I was hoping for and more! It was was first visit to the east and my first Exodus trip. Both more than met my expectations. Each city we visited was totally different from the one before but equally fantastic.

Most Inspirational Moment

Toss up between My Son, the Mekong Delta home-stay and the War Remnants Museum in Ho Chi Minh City (although it made me cry)

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our tour leader was Anh Nguyen what a great guy. Knowledgeable, fun and always there when he was needed.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don't think about it...........DO IT

Primates and Dragons of Indonesia

A thoroughly superb trip which does exactly what it says on the tin. The encounters with Orangs are magical. These animals that you see are rehabilitated so are used to humans and therefore are unafraid to approach you. The truly wild orangs will keep their distance. We also encountered a funky gibbon that was partial to a bit of fruit. The jungle at Bukit Lawang is hot and steamy, so be prepared, and the optional extra walk is well worth doing as it takes you deeper into the jungle and offers plenty of opportunities to fall over!!! Two days on board the boat from Flores is a great time to reflect on the passing world before you jump back in the sea to snorkel, recover from lunch or prepare yourself to meet a Komodo Dragon

Most Inspirational Moment

I fully expected to be overawed by orangs and dragons. However, we were lucky and saw manta rays just below us whilst snorkelling. The first encounter blew my mind.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Evie. brilliant, hard working and SO helpful.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The trip notes hint that Brestagi is cool enough for a warm jumper, but we found that a long sleeve shirt was sufficient. Be aware that Bukit Lawang is hot and steamy, Komodo and Rinca islands in the middle of the day can be like ovens. The two day boat trip is very dependant on currents, so you get to where you're going when you get there. Be prepared for changes to the internal flight schedules from Medan down to Flores but just go with it and enjoy the experience.

Mont Blanc to the Matterhorn

We were a little unfortunate with the weather in that we had a full week with minimal views, quite a lot of rain and very low cloud which was disappointing and at times frustrating. However we had a great group and learnt to recognise a lot of alpine flowers, as this was all we could see at times. We really appreciated the expansive views when the sun finally came out. The tents were a really good size for two and Charlie whipped up some fantastic meals in camp.

Most Inspirational Moment

Finally getting to see some fantastic views after a week of minimal visibility.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Jenny was keen to keep the group together during the day, and make sure the group didn't get too split up. She did a good job at trying to keep morale up when the route had to be changed on several occasions as it was too dangerous in the snow and poor visibility to go across the highest pass of the route to Col Prafleuri, having already had to go on the low route rather than go on the path near the Trient Glacier.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared to experience days with poor weather and limited visibility, rather than just the picture perfect blue sky photos in the advertising for this trip. Also pack clothes/layers for all temperatures from a really hot sunny day to a cold winter's day - we experienced it all.

Cycling Vietnam MOV

One of my best holidays ever. The whole group (there were 7 of us) were looked after from the moment we arrived in Ho Chi Minh (Saigon) to when we left Hanoi at the end of the trip. The scenery, organisation, accomodation, food and cycling were superb. I have stayed in some good hotels in my time but the ones chosen by Exodus for this trip were simply superb

Most Inspirational Moment

The trip around Halong Bay in the boat and the kayaks was truly fantastic and we were lucky enough to be lead by Danh (who must surely be the best tour leader ever) and he helped us to find the monkeys which inhabit some of the rocks in Halong Bay:- we were lucky enough to see them virtually at arms length.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our tour leader, Danh, was truly inspirational. Nothing was too much trouble, he organised absolutely everything and we really did not need to think for ourselves as Danh had already thought of it for us! When we went to the local restaurants for dinner we didn't reallyhave to look at the menu as Danh had already found out from the chef what was the best to eat and we simply had to pick up our chopsticks (you do get used to they quite quickly) and get stuck in! He made us feel totally safe when we were cycling and we had no worries at all whilst cycling either through the busy streets or up the steepest inclines (undulations he used to call them). We also had Li as our mechanic and he was a saviour to some in the group as he gave them a helpful push up some of the inclines. Danh's knowledge of the route and the history of his country was huge and he truly enjoyed himself during our trip. Exodus should be very proud to have him in their team he is an asset to your company.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don't take too many clothes!! You will not need them. T-shirts and shorts are really the order of the day. I took 2 pairs of long trousers, 2 long sleeve shirts and 2 pairs of proper shoes and did not need them at all.

Bulgarian National Parks

I have been on plenty of holidays like this one and this was one of the best. I was on the same trip as Beth and Penny who have also posted reviews and I echo what they have said. We were blessed with good weather, a group that worked well together and an excellent leader.

Most Inspirational Moment

This is a trip with plenty of highlights.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Valdimir has quiet, calm, professionalism about him and that makes him one of the best leaders I have come across. Taking a group of 16 people with ages ranging from mid-20's to mid-60's into the mountains can be tricky. He set a pace which kept us moving but equally kept us together as a single group.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be well prepared! The trip is marked as grade 5, Challenging and that is a fair grading. Each day had separate challenges, and mountain weather can be variable at the best of times. Make sure you take plenty of food up the mountain as there are some long days when it's necessary to keep the energy levels up. Always carry extra clothing and waterproofs.

Get away from it all and enjoy the ride....

Great trip. Great places to visit. Great group leader. A different taste of Italy.

Most Inspirational Moment

We went a day early to see Matera properly. This is an extraordinary and attractive place that has been transformed from being Italy's national disgrace in the 1960s to be named as the European City of Culture for 2019 while we were on the trip. Not to be missed.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader was Michaele. He was professional, knowledgable, organised, hard working and personable while also being great fun and spontaneous at the same time. He made sure that everyone had a fantastic holiday. It's hard to imagine anyone doing the job as well as him.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The trip was a combination of interesting medieval towns and villages, great climate and a taste of of Italy far away from the usual tourist sites. The cycling was through countryside and by the coast, but not always beautiful - we understand that the route is to be 'tuned' in the near future. Some days were quite tiring but really shouldn't be a problem for anyone who has prepared for the holiday. The opportunity for a dip in the turquoise sea during October is not to be missed.
