Marvellous Madagascar!

A really varied trip with the opportunity to see several different areas of Madagascar; the gorgeous beaches, some beautiful national parks and delightful lemurs and chameleons!

Most Inspirational Moment

The range of lemur species that we were privileged to see interacting in the wild and swinging in the trees! I was surprised how close they came to us, allowing for some fantastic photo opportunities!

Thoughts on Group Leader

He was a native Madagascan so was able to give us a real insight into his country. He was also very eager to ensure that everyone had a positive experience and nothing was ever too much trouble... Having received the groups details before the trip began he'd even arranged some birthday surprises (a band and a cake) for one of the group members.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It was colder than I expected in the north, particularly at night - pack plenty of warm clothes for this part of the trip. And be prepared for crowds/chaos when you arrive - no one seems to queue for their entry visa!

Kilimanjaro - Lemosho Route

12 out of 12 made it – in various states of disrepair – to the roof of Africa and down again. A fine effort, aided and abetted by excellent guides and following the often quoted 5 golden rules for Kilimanjaro. It’s a shame i can only recall 4 of them but something like eat well, drink lots of fluid, go slowly, and have a positive mental attitude. I’d emphasise the latter which requires a lot of staying calm when you feel sick, trusting yourself, and finding the wherewithal to plod slowly all night up a freezing mountain when your subconscious self is telling you to pack it in and do something more sensible but less inspirational

Most Inspirational Moment

I'd love to say it was triumphing heroically on the summit of the continent, but i had to retreat at top speed in a fit of altitude sickness and vomiting, which looking back on things seems rather more exciting than it was at the time ! What i really loved was getting up slowly each morning from a nippy tent, and seeing the clouds far below us for day after day - truly fantastic

Abraham was a colossus - a big guy, with a big personality, and a capable leader ready with advice for the mountain, an extra supply of diamox, and many a loony tune. And I'd like to apologise to Riccardo, because I kept wanting to call him Rodrigo, which led to other members of the gang wanting to call him Rodriguez.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It was a really top trip, but we did have problems at the airport on the way back. Kili airport is small and chaotic - you absolutely must turn up for your flight as far in advance as possible

High Inca Trail

As a group of friends who have years of experience of long distance walks and challenges we chose Exodus to guide us on the High Inca Trail. I thoroughly enjoyed this trip and rate it on a par with the incredible experience of climbing Kilimanjaro. The trek was brilliantly organised by our Exodus team leader who met us at the airport, escorted us to our hotel and then showed us Cusco by night. Her knowledge and experience were excellent providing us a marvelous insight into the Inca culture and the Spanish effect on it. The High Inca trek was a testing walk but for a reasonbly fit person (I am 60 years young), it was quiet attainable.
An acclimatisation walk put us in the mood to experience the ever changing and beautiful countryside and views, we visited Inca ruins of all shapes and sizes. We saw Condors soaring gracefully through blue skys on the trek and nothing can prepare you for what you feel as you walk through the sun gate. We subsequently visited a host of villages and Inca ruins, we ate at the home of a very welcoming local family on one occasion and also had time to explore on our own.

Most Inspirational Moment

The trek was marvelous with varied terrain and taking on the affects of altitude. The history of this beautiful country is mesmerizing.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader was superb. She thoroughly briefed us on what to expect, guided us through every stage keeping us safe at all times. Her knowledge of Peru and the Inca people was massive. She inspired the horsemen, and porters who obviously had great respect for her. She was immediately our friend and leader fulfilling all her promises of a trip of a life time.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Good boots, warm clothing for the very cold nights, lots of insect repellent and sun block and a sense of fun and discovery.

Inca Trail, Lake Titicaca and Amazon Rainforest

This was a trip of a lifetime. It wasn’t always easy, but we are very glad we had the experience. It was totally different to any other holiday we have ever had.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This is a tough trip due to the altitude. Most of us had some reaction to the altitude, and that made the experience more difficult. This is a trip which involves some very basic accommodation, but that is indicated on the trip notes. So, we expected the camping and the jungle to be hard. However, we were, once again, rather fed up with the rooms we were given at hotels - always at the back, or in a noisy part of hotels which were not of the best standard or best position.

Galápagos Islands aboard the Cachalote yacht

This is a most amazing trip for wildlife enthusiasts. I had never been so close to wildlife that was so indifferent to our presence. We were merely another non threatening species and as such were not to be feared or shunned, simply accepted. To see the bird and animal life living and behaving so naturally was a real privilege.

Most Inspirational Moment

There were so many highlights it would be difficult to choose; the blue footed boobies' mating rituals, the waved albatross sheltering its chick on a nest, the frigate birds v. red billed tropic birds in aerial combat, the suckling sea lions, the iguanas piled high as if tipped out of a bag onto the rocks and ....... I could go on for a long time. Snorkelling as incredible, the sharks, turtles, rays and fish almost within touching distance-so were the rocks and sea bed but great fun and help at hand at all times.

Our group leader David was very knowledgeable about the Islands and the wildlife and a good 'people person' who interacted well with all of us with humour and care.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The trip notes were good but perhaps it should be mentioned that the Cachalote is a very small boat and the ocean is a very big one! As a result the boat was noisy and when sailing the engine was even noisier and appeared to be behind the wall in every cabin. The sailing could be very rough at times and sleep didn't always come easily. Things had to be battened down carefully one night as we were tossed around a lot. Having said that, it didn't bother me as it was all part of the experience but this is no smooth ocean going liner and some fellow passengers hadn't expected this. Don't let this put you off, it is only a week and actually a fun challenge to those of us with a warped sense of humour like me!

Great holiday

My 17 year old son and I thoroughly enjoyed our holiday to China. Over 20 days we visited most of the principal attractions of the country. The accommodation was good, the food was great and we had a very busy and active holiday together with the chance to have a rest and complete break too.

Most Inspirational Moment

I really enjoyed cycling and then walking up to Moon Hill near Yangshuo because we travelled as a small group of five with our guide through rural China rather than being in a big City or town all of the time. We walked up to the Great Wall and cycled the city walls of Xian (although this was not compulspory).

Thoughts on Group Leader

William did a very good job of keeping us all to schedule, locating our transport, making sure we didn't get lost. His greatest contribution was almost certainly ordering delicious meals for us twice a day. (He only ordered the belly pork once).

Advice for Potential Travellers

I didn't need to use my sheet sleeping bag on the overnight trains- we had clean laundry on all three nights. There was a towel in every hotel, the only place we didn't have a towel was on the trains. The food was great, plentiful and cheap- they have lots of KFC, Haagen Daas and MacDonalds if you really can't cope with Chinese cuisine every day. The breakfasts were the most mediocre but did include bacon, eggs, toast and other western style dishes. The raincoat I took with me was surplus to requirements- it was August and hot every day and everywhere- there were a couple of thunderstorms which we narrowly missed. Get used to the idea of "squat" toilets, you will need to use one at some point.

Walking the Amalfi Coast

Classed as leisurely moderate, this walk was at a leisurely pace, which was really enjoyable and there was plenty of time to take photos, cake breaks, lunch etc. The walks are also classed as moderate, which is the difficulty of the walking. Lots of steps, climbing rocks in parts, loose gravel. Don’t let that put you off. The views were worth every step, every rock and every bit of gravel!

Most Inspirational Moment

The day we spent in Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius was absolutely thrilling. From Pompeii's history, brilliantly explained by the local guide, to Mount Vesuvius, climbing into the crater, was an amazing day.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Christina was unbelievable. She catered for every need. She looked after us, whether we were youngsters or elderly, she was chatty, sociable, explained all the views, terrains, how the car got stuck up the tree (there was a bit of romantising there!) All buses/coaches were well organised. One of the best group leaders I've had.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don't hesitate ~ book it. You do need walking boots/shoes and a pole was helpful. A small camera is a must.

Discover Sri Lanka

An absolutely amazing trip – the perfect mix of culture and activities.

Most Inspirational Moment

seeing the elephants - the fact that we were able to get so close was amazing. Also the bike ride was just lovely, stopping to chat to locals was great. Immersing ourselves in the culture of the temples was also a highlight.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Sam was brilliant. He added on some additional activities for us that we all really enjoyed. His knowledge was never ending and he was a great story teller. We couldn't have asked for a better guide.

A great cultural and walking experience

A brilliant holiday that surprassed my expectations. bosnia is a hidden gem, with amazing mountain scenery, beautiful towns and cities and some fascinating recent history. seeing different faiths and their shared existence was particularly interesting

Walking on the Greek Islands

A great trip, beautiful walks, stunning scenary, good culture, simple-small-friendly hotels in perfect locations, knowledgeable leader – couldn't have asked for more from my first Exodus walking holiday.
