Uzbekistan Uncovered

This was a captivating and well-balanced trip to a country with a fascinating sweep of history, both ancient and modern. Our group was friendly, fun and considerate and our guide, Dilshod, excellent.

Most Inspirational Moment

There were many. Wandering the ancient streets of Khiva was awe-inspring, the magnificent architecture in general, also the desert - travelling through the wilderness to get a measure of the challenges experienced by Silk Road travellers, spotting an eagle with a snake in its beak, being invited to join a school reunion party during a lunch stop. Above all, Uzbek people were so friendly and welcoming, and keen to have their photos taken with us and converse (English has been introduced into schools now).

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our leader, Dilshod, was excellent. He had a warm personality, was very efficient, highly knowledgeable and everything was done for our interest, enjoyment and safety (always had plenty of bottes of water available to prevent dehydration!).

Advice for Potential Travellers

Public toilets can be grim!

Finland, snowshoeing - superb

This was my first holiday with Exodus, but I knew of the Company by reputation and word of mouth. I was not disappointed. From start to Finish (!) this was a well organised trip with people who knew what they were doing. The accommodation was excellent, the staff and leaders were very knowledgable and helpful and the other participants were great company. Food was wholesome, filling and tasty. The snowshoeing started with an easy and fun introduction and soon progressed to longer day outings in stunningly beautiful scenery. I’ve massive numbers of photos to show what a wonderful holiday this was.

Most Inspirational Moment

I think there were at least two particularly memorable ones, though every day was inspirational: The two that for me stand out the most were: in the middle of the night when one of the gang was yelling and shouting outside the huts - the Aurora Borealis was performing - absolutely wonderful; the other was looking down at a fierce fierce waterfall covered by a shelf of ice......and meeting some lovely people who enjoyed the outdoors and the sense of adventure....not to mention the introduction to hot chocolate laced with mint liqueur (bottle purchased at Helsinki on return trip and still being enjoyed!)

Thoughts on Group Leader

In a word, fantastic. Most of the leading was undertaken by Tessa, who was so very knowledgeable about the wildlife, tracking, and leading us through some dramatic scenery. Always cheerful, friendly and encouraging she was great to be with.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go for it! You'll not regret it....and make sure you pack a spare battery/batteries for your camera plus charger

Wadi Rum Trek

A great introduction to the Middle East. The desert was stunning and Petra was fascinating.

Most Inspirational Moment

Exploring Petra.

Third time here

As I have experienced previously this is a great place to come with excellant leaders

Most Inspirational Moment

Hard to pick any one but certain moments stand out such as nearly being blown over by the wind and managing to remain upright on my skiis but mostly it is about the lovely scenery and great off track skiing which makes a great change from the European loipe

Thoughts on Group Leader

Both Isle and Mary are excellant leaders and put in so much work into making it a great trip for everyone whatever level of skier you are.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Good to bring a bottle of something alcoholic from duty free. Vegetarians don't worry as the food is excellant. No need to bring any extras.

Mongolian Adventure and Nadaam festival

This was a trip to Mongolia with the 3 day Nadaam festival slotted in towards the end of the trip. 11 of us toured round the country in two ex Russian military 4 x4 vehicles spending a lot of time off road, bouncing up and down. We stayed in a hotel in the capital and Ger camps in the country side.

Most Inspirational Moment

This was driving into the edge of the Gobi desert and finding that our drivers local village were having a horse race for 2 year old horses over 15KM the jockeys were all young boys and girls under the age of 10. Some of them were riding bare backed and a girl riding like this was second in the race. We then spent 2 nights in a remote Ger camp near to the village. We were the only Westerners present for the 2 days we were there. magic. Seeing a Cinereous vulture at close hand and watching it take off was like seeing a feathered Vulcan bomber on a bomb run. They are enormous (wing span up to 2.95M)

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader was a very likeable lady and immensely charming. However as it has been a year since she last led a trip and had not been able to practice her English language conversational skills it was difficult to understand her pronunciation of some words. This also meant that many questions posed to her went unanswered or were met with a smile and a blank look

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take a small thermarest, or similar, padded seat with you. A few small balloons to entertain the many (very, very many) small children you will encounter along the way. This helps to break the ice with their parents etc. and can lead to some very cute photographs. if you are interested in bird life, particularly Raptors take a small pair of binoculars as there is a lot to be seen.

wonderful

what a wonderful way to see the real sri lanka. The walks were fun and scenic, the locals warm and friendly. Our guide was perfect, and we had enough time to ourselves to really enjoy the tour.
This was not a shopping tour, and that’s what made it so very special. There were parts of the trip that were just so unique! You will love the bungalow!

Most Inspirational Moment

sitting on the top of sigyria rock

Thoughts on Group Leader

I thought he was very special. I felt looked after withoput the constant overbearing of some tour guides. He really was a very quiet, special man.

Advice for Potential Travellers

wind down to sri Lankan pace, or you will not enjoy your holiday

Vietnam adventure, what an experience

My ever first experience as a solo traveller excelled my expectations. The organisation was just excellent and the attention given to the traveller beyond belief. Vietnam Adventure is a great experience all in all, boats, bikes, trains, local transport take you to a different dimension. This was my first experience with Exodus and will not be the last, now the difficulty is what country to choose from…

Most Inspirational Moment

Difficult to say, but doing the cooking course was definitely the highlight for me...landscapes, people, food, villages, the whole thing together was very inspirational.

Thoughts on Group Leader

He was a top leader, always attentive, fun, patient and always meeting our needs, As a teacher myself, I know what it means leading groups...I would definitely recommend him as a top person.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Travel light, so much to buy in Vietnam...and always go with the flow, Vietnam is a great country. As you head south is hotter and more expensive, if you see soemthing that like, just get it at the spot.

Rosie

Great cycling, knowledgeable guides who went out of their way to ensure we all enjoyed every day, and delightful countryside made for a most enjoyable 10 days in Eastern Europe.

Most Inspirational Moment

Peaceful cycling along paths shaded by spring green trees in the wilds of Czech Republic.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Jan and Dana worked well together, kept us informed of the days' activities so there were no big surprises, and bent to group demands where necessary! Both were professional, fit, organised, helpful and friendly, and above all, they enjoyed the ride as much as we did.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Several days of solid cycling followed by relatively easy days. Be prepared for all kinds of weather. Allow time in your itinerary to enjoy both Prague and Budapest for a couple of days.

Croatia mountains etc

We had a wonderful time, met some lovely people, saw some fantastic places, and enjoyed Croatia immensely

Most Inspirational Moment

Getting to the top of the walks and enjoying the scenery

Thoughts on Group Leader

He was wonderful, you have a really good guy working for you.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I personally found the walks quite difficult, I think it was a mixture of ascent and heat that caused me problems, having said that, I would do it all again

A potentially fabulous trip, let down by incompetent tour representation

It oul have been a trip of a life time, if only the service provided by an operator with 40 years experience in adventure travel had not let me down badly. I cannot believe I was the first or could have been the only tour member who arrived at Marrakesh airport without my entire kit, due to BA leaving it at Gatwick airport and not reuniting me with my entire kit not until the return date.

Disappointing as this was, it was made worse by the total lack of help I was offered by the local representative of Exodus in Marrakesh. Apart from a hastily organised sleeping bag there was nothing that would have made my trip possible. No clothing, towel, toilet paper, toothbrush, hand wipe, rucksack or even an emergency pair of change of clothing, underwear or suncreme o offer. Had it not been for a friendly and competent tour member, I might as well have returned to Edinburgh on my heels. Moreover, I was made to feel all this was my fault by the Moroccan tour leader and made to feel an outcast during the entire trip.

Marrakesh is a big city and open all day and night. To send someone to buy some emergency supplies overnight, when the company has local representation would not have been asking to much? But nothing was forthcoming.

As this was my forth trip with Exodus over the years and not my first to Morocco, I know for sure it could have been handled better and did not have to be so abysmal.

Would I travel again with the company? Not sure. Would I travel again to Morocco. Certainly, but with a different ground handler.

Most Inspirational Moment

I am proud of myself that despite everything I made it to the summit of Mount Toubkal.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Incompetent, unfriendly, uncommunicative, not up to the task of leading an international group of people of variant ability.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Make sure, you take hand luggage only if possible.

Reply from Exodus

We are extremely sorry to learn that this was not Sigrid’s most memorable trip with Exodus.

We understand it is extremely frustrating for personal luggage to be lost when travelling and are very sorry that Sigrid’s bag went missing in transit to Marrakech airport. We regret that Sigrid didn’t find her tour leader, or our local office in Marrakech, to be very helpful regarding this situation, but we would like to assure all future travellers that this experience does not fall in line with the normally very positive comments we receive about this trip and our local staff. Our customer services team are currently investigating all of the points Sigrid has raised and will address her concerns directly.
