AMALFI COAST & BAY OF NAPLES

As all previous reviewers have said : good hotel, friendly staff, good food. Beautiful coastal area and some interesting places to visit

Most Inspirational Moment

Not inspirational but I really enjoyed the 'walk of the gods' from the hotel to Positano. Lovely coastal path with great views

Thoughts on Group Leader

I can add nothing original about Eduardo.  He was informative, organised, very friendly and helpful.  A real desire for each individual in the group to have the best holiday experience.  A very real part of what makes this particular trip successful

Advice for Potential Travellers

Local bus service can be erratic which can make travelling somewhere on your free day a little difficult. There is now a gov tax of 1.50Euro per hotel night which you have to pay.  Pompeii is an interesting place to visit (which we did on our free day) but I would not bother with a guide, I think you can get a better experience if you read a little of its history before you go and walk around the place by yourself...particularly get away from the 'main' bits all guides show and wander off around the backstreets as there are far more buildings you can wander in and around with far fewer people and far more atmospheric.

CYCLING THE DALMATIAN COAST

I recommend this trip but suggest doing it outside the rainy season.  The rainy season during our week was Sunday (light drizzle, just to help us acclimatise), Monday (heavy showers followed by heavy rain), Tuesday (morning downpour, afternoon showers), and Wednesday (heavy rain in between periods of torrential rain, although it did clear late in the afternoon)!  Thursday and Friday were mostly dry.  But the islands did look very beautiful between the clouds, we had a fun group of people and our guide did an excellent job of modifying the cycling and finding other activities to suit the weather.

Most Inspirational Moment

Hiding in a church porch whilst the rain was completely bucketing down!  The idea that we had tried to cycle and been caught out in those conditions was just so funny we all had to laugh.  So we were laughing even before the wine-tasting....

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ana was excellent - made a real effort to modify the cycle plans to suit the occasional gaps between the heavy rain, and to find alternative activities, including cave visits and wine-tastings, due to the shorter cycling programme.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I'm sure you'll have a great time with better weather!  There are some long hills on the trip, so if you aren't a regular cyclist, do try to do a bit of training before you go.

DISCOVER COSTA RICA

A truly amazing trip which surpassed my high expectations. Everything was perfect, the accommodation, the food, the guide, Giovanni, the local guides, the itinerary which included close contact with lots of amazing wildlife and chance to become familiar with some of the culture of Costa Rica with a visit to a coffee plantation, a school and an appetising lunch with a lady who makes delicious cheese.

Most Inspirational Moment

Difficult to choose one there were so many but my first view of a sloth was amazing, I had always wanted to see one, also getting so close to iguanas who posed beautifully for photographs. Gliding peacefully along the canals at Tortuguero was like a dream. And I loved the feeling of being so close to nature at Esquinas lodge, listening to the evening frog chorus.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Giovanni was all you could ask for in a guide. His knowledge about wildlife was extensive and he never tired of answering our endless questions.  He was obviously proud of his country and was keen for us to learn something about his people. He was able to recommend some good eating places. He was sensitive to all our needs and had a good sense of humour. He made sure dietery requirements were met and went out of his way to make sure we saw all the wildlife we could, He had amazing spotting ability, we wondered how he managed to spot some things, and would stop the bus so we could take photographs and get a closer look through his telescope. He made sure we saw the resplendant quetzal at Savegre. We were lucky enough to see male, female and juvenile.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Book now it is an amazing trip. A poncho is really useful as it covers your rucksack when it rains. I took my own wellies for the muddy walks but others managed in trainers. I found my walking stick useful on really muddy tracks as it helped maintain balance when it was slippery. The walking is not difficult many of the trails are on stony tracks. I didn't need the separate holdall for the trip to Tortuguero as there was enough room for luggage even on a full boat. Check you have enough time for connecting flights in Madrid if you choose that route.A super absorbent travel towel was useful on the waterfall walk to dry off after a swim.Take plenty of insect repellent. We had to go through security again in Madrid on the return journey even my bottle of water bought airside of security in San Jose was confiscated so this might affect what you buy at duty free in San Jose.

THE HIGH INCA TRAIL

A challenging adventure.

Most Inspirational Moment

As we performed a ritual thanking the mountains for a safe arrival at Chiriasqa pass at 5000m a condor appeared and flew just above us. Seeing Machu Picchu for the first time upon arrival at the Sun Gate. Being so close to Salcantay.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Maritza was a very competent leader capable of dealing with everything presented to her.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take at least two large packs of wet wipes, a spare battery for your camera, a good three season sleeping bag and Merino tee shirts and thermals. If you can squeeze it in then also take a pillow. I also recommend getting two or three dry bags from a camping shop to keep your clothes in when packing your duffle bag. Go at your own pace but don't stop for too long to catch your breath as you'll get cold.

INCA TRAIL & THE AMAZON RAINFOREST

What an amazing experience! A very busy trip but everything from the fantastic scenery on the Inca trail, great food, a leader that not only was very knowledgeable but couldn’t have looked after us better made it all so worth while.

Most Inspirational Moment

So many loved the whole jungle experience. The scenery on the Inca trail especially the third campsite on top of the mountain and seeing Machu Picchu for the first time. All the work put in by the porters, chefs etc on the Inca trail which we couldn't have done without! The homestay was a nice relaxing way to end the trip.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader Ollie was brilliant! He was so helpful and knowledgeable! Everything from him making sure the group was in the right place at the right time, to organising our luggage, sharing his knowledge of the places we visited, making sure we could all complete the trek at a pace that suited us and always having a good sense of humour all helped to make this trip so much better!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Read the trip notes carefully. Enjoy the walk and take it at your own pace and listen to your leader. Don't get duty free at Lima airport as it will get confiscated at Madrid. There is a lot packed into the trip so don't expect to much time to relax but well worth it. You are going to get wet, muddy, sweaty, hot and cold during the trip but don't worry it will all come of your clothes in the wash when you get back!

AMALFI COAST & BAY OF NAPLES

This is a great trip and fits loads in, in a short space of time! Eduardo was amazing!

Most Inspirational Moment

Wow so many to mention, but the best bit was the Walk of the Gods, closely followed by the day on Capri, and of course ice cream in Amalfi!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Eduardo was amazing! He organised our free day fully and spent the day with us too. He was full of information, and worked tirelessly all week. He made us feel like such a special group.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It can get cold in Bomerano in September, even when it is really warm on the coast so wise to pack some jumpers.

WALKING THE FRENCH RIVIERA

This is a wonderful way to experience a beautiful part of France and includes small villages, mountains and the seaside.  There is more moderate than easy walking involved but it is well worth the effort.

Most Inspirational Moment

Looking down at the views from mountain tops. Enjoying fun and laughter with a group of like-minded people and a fantastic leader, Stephanie.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Stephanie was fantastic.  She was happy to share her knowledge of her country with us.  She was patient and thoughtful.  She became part of our group, sharing laughs with us and special moments.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Make sure you have done a little walking before the time.  On day 2, you do 1 hour of continuous climbing and this can be difficult if you do no exercise regularly. With some preparation, this is a wonderful tour where you can focus on the spectacular views rather than worrying about your physical wellbeing.

CLASSIC KENYA SAFARI

Some great memories, great people, great guides, fantastic landscapes and stunning wildlife… much better than watching on tv.

Most Inspirational Moment

Watching a lion hunt... female stalking downwind and another female flanking driving the wildebeest towards the female waiting in ambush, then the explosion of pace when she broke cover... all saying that the hunt was unsuccessful. Mainly because the lions were already on a kill when this opportunity presented itself. Saying that there were many great moments all packed into a few days. Elephants, Buffalo, Leopard, Cheetah, Serval,  Rhino and spectacular birdlife the list goes on and on.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Peter & Daveis were 1st class, tonnes of knowledge, funny, clear and made the trip what it was complimented by the wildlife, culture and accommodation! You couldn't get 2 finer guides. Focusing on the things we came to do and see.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Bring a decent camera and record the memories. The photographic opportunities are fantastic and a great way to show people how worthwhile going on safari is... a photo makes 1000 words so to speak. Don't pack fancy, beware of the sun all common sense stuff. Viewing wildlife in it's natural habitat is a privilege , it's not a zoo so set your expectations reasonably and you'll be amazed. Food was great and catered for all diets.

CLASSIC KENYA SAFARI

An amazing week with plenty of game viewing oppertunites and a chance to see a couple of the game parks that Kenya has to offer.

Most Inspirational Moment

On our first full day in the Mara, we came across a cheetah and two cubs who had just made a kill. We stayed with them for half an hour and it was amazing to (finally!) see some in the wild. We hit the tail end of the migration but still managed to see many wildebeest. The sunrise balloon ride was also an amazing experience.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leaders - Ken & Davis - where fantastic drivers & spotters, and were always on hand to answer any questions we may have had. They were very knowledgeable, friendly and kind.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go for the balloon ride. I was worried I wouldn't enjoy it since the idea of being in a small basket way up off the ground doesn't really appeal to me (read: panic!) but it was a very calming experience, and definitely worth it!

THE INCA TRAIL

When you look at the fantastic views that can take your breath away , then you walk round a corner and there is one even better 😉 time after time corner after corner .

Most Inspirational Moment

Meeting the Sherpas , getting to know them by their smiles , they are warm hearted exceptional people with a super human strength and stamina .

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader , Holger or Olly as we came to know him by. Is a very kind and understanding person, that understood each individual Trekkers needs , he has a methodical walking pace to suit all abilities. Thank you for all your help Olly .

Advice for Potential Travellers

Best buy was a Poncho, buy one there then pass on to a Sherpa
