ESSENTIAL PERU

Peru was more varied than expected.  Exhausting but enjoyable. Cusc

Most Inspirational Moment

The whole trip was an assault on us. But it was very interesting especially its complex history.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Carlos was fantastic,  As tour leader,Always thinking about the safety and wellbeing of the group.Proud of his heritage.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared  for long journeys, keep hydrated at high altitudes (take water with you at all times),Use hand gel before handling food and drink,Arrive a day early to adjust properly and the start was very early.

WALKING IN NORTH CYPRUS

A good mixture of trail walking and city exploration/sightseeing. The Cypriot food was excellent and copious. Top marks for the packed lunches on the day trips, made by the guide’s brother’s local bakery. The weather was fantastic on this trip which made a nice change from cold dreary England at this time of year.

Most Inspirational Moment

The relaxed pace of life they have over there, and the happy mix of old and modern in their towns and cities, relatively untouched by the infiltration of global corporations.

Thoughts on Group Leader

He seemed to organise things well and was clearly passionate about his country and culture.

Advice for Potential Travellers

1) Plan on going on a diet when you get back. 2) If you want long walks every day, this trip probably isn't for you. 3) Some of the descents on the hills are quite steep so if you have dodgy knees you might want to bring sticks.4) Be aware the hotel is set up on a hill above Kyrenia and it's not easy to get into the town on your own, if you had such a desire. 5) They don't give you free food on the plane so have a big breakfast or bring your own lunch.

ESSENTIAL PERU

First time Exodus trip. For someone who has traveled solo for over a decade, it was a wonderful and different experience. Great leader (Carlos), diverse and interesting group and a lovely country.

Most Inspirational Moment

Serene valleys and alto planos; spotting condors in flight; and being able to sleep in at least one morning.

Thoughts on Group Leader

The most caring mother one could hope for. Congenial, kind, informative and a real genuine individual.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you have avoided group excursions in the past, try one-it is a convenient hassle free means of going to many different places with the added benefit of wonderful companions.

MOUNTAINS & VILLAGES OF EVIA

What a great way to get away from the Christmas craziness, remain occupied, and learn a lot about the history of Evia and Greek culture. Evia is gorgeous and our hikes were the perfect amount of challenge. Thanos knows so much history and is happy to share it. My advice would be to just go with the flow, trust that he knows what he is doing and not press too hard for information about what's next. It is nice that we frequented independent businesses and had nice breaks between the hikes and dinner.

Most Inspirational Moment

Hiking! It felt great!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Very smart and capable. He has a lot of pride for his country and is a little sensitive if he thinks someone is criticizing it. Thanos is a good man, a reliable leader and he knows his way around the island.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Trust your leader and kick back and enjoy the trip.

CUBAN HIGHLIGHTS RIDE

Cuba – a trip to remember forever!  It proved to be so much more than I had originally imagined – great people to meet, amazing scenery, steeped in history and with all year fantastic weather; what more do you need from a holiday?  Cycling around the island added something so more real that you would never have received the same experience had you opted for a standard tourist coach trip.  There was so much to see, so much to learn from Cuba’s revolutionary history and so much friendliness from the people themselves in welcoming us to their country.

Most Inspirational Moment

Visiting Che Guevara’s mausoleum, and hearing his story and those of his fellow revolutionaries.  They committed their lives in aiding to free the Cubans from their past and into a future controlled by themselves.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Yazel was amazing as a guide. He was always there to help, happy to offer his advice, and informed us well of the Cuban way of life (past and present).  He was willing to go out of his way to help with anything we needed or places we wanted to visit that were not on the itinerary. And he had a great sense of humour - definitely added to the holiday experience. It is also worth mentioning our driver Jose who was awesome in being the support man preparing our bikes each day, handing out the bottled water whenever we needed it, and offering us his view on life with added humour (all in Spanish!).  They were a great team.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Definitely go on this trip.  Seeing Cuba through the eyes of a cyclist is worth every single moment. You get a totally different experience from it and it’s worth so much more.  The cycling is not that difficult and anyone who has a reasonable level of fitness will find it well within their reach.

ATLAS PANORAMA

I've given the trip 4 stars because experiencing the Atlas mountains was so magnificent. We were well looked after in the gite and our guide – Hassan – was excellent. However, the Marrakech segment of the trip leaves a lot to be desired and the actual experience in the mountains felt much more commercial than I would have expected from the way it was sold to me on your website. I'm explaining all this below.

Most Inspirational Moment

The 10 hour 32 kms walk on our last full day in the High Atlas. It was difficult but very rewarding, we were extremely lucky with the weather for the full trip and the ruggedness of the mountains is just something else. The colours were beautiful. The cook from our gite came all the way with his mule to the semi-frozen lake where we had our break and cooked lunch for us there that was nutritious and tasty as always. I also enjoyed the 4-hour walk on our second day, it was reasonably hard and the views on the top were breathtaking. What wasn't so inspiring though was the fact that the first walk (the 7-hour one) felt like hiking on someone's farm. The valleys are reasonably built up by having several villages neighbouring each other, the hills are used for farming sheep or chopping wood. Our first walk was interrupted considerably by dogs who were guarding the various sheel pens. Even if there had been some wildlife, they would have been scared away by the dogs. The walk itself is reasonably strenuous and challenging, the mountains are gorgeous but it feels like being a rambler on someone's farm rather than being out on an adventure.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Hassan is a very warm, genuine and knowledgeable group leader. Not once did he try to limit our options just to make his own life easier. He is very patient and he is without a doubt a very good man.I didn't think much of our guide in Marrakech though, he showed us a couple of sites and took us to shops where he gets his commission. He didn't give us any kind of orientation so we were a bit lost first when our free time came.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take into consideration the amount of time spent in Marrakech, there isn't that much to look at. A lot of historic sites were either destroyed by succeeding dynasties over the centuries or didn't survive due to poor building practices. We arrived in Marrakech on Sunday and had a free evening, had a full day there on Monday with the afternoon/evening free again after being guided around in the morning a bit. Then we travelled the full morning on Tuesday and arrived in the mountains in the afternoon, again with a lot of spare time on our hands. We didn't start the actual hiking until Wednesday.I think it's quite difficult to guage from the field notes the amount of time you need to kill until you can get your hiking boots on properly. It would have been better if we had been able to leave Marrakech Monday afternoon and start hiking on Tuesday. It felt like we were kept waiting for the bit that we all booked the holiday for in the first place.Beware of the hotel you get booked in in Marrakech too, Hotel Oudaya is awful.

Thank you for your valued feedback. We have decided to use a new hotel for all Exodus trips to Marrakech in 2013.

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING: KVITAVATN

Both the track and off-track skiing were excellent. This was certainly helped by the amount of snow, but the terrain was always good because it was challenging. The main leader and instructor (Ilse) was excellent – patient, attentive and always helpful.

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching the peak of Orneneipa on a very cold day, plus completing some of the demanding downhill sections of the tracks.

Thoughts on Group Leader

The main group leader (Ilse) was excellent, as highlighted

Advice for Potential Travellers

Make the most of the opportunities and ask Ilse's advice on how to wax your skis, and which wax to use.

ANTARCTIC EXPLORER

This was the most amazing trip. From the first moment we got on the ship to the moment we left we were by turns pampered, well fed and treated to an array of various difference experiences on an untouched continent. I can highly recommend this and with the level of quality of all aspects of this trip I would expect anyone from anywhere to enjoy it.

Most Inspirational Moment

I could choose some of the amazing trips or juddery but visually astonishing zodiac tours but I won't. It may seem simple but the best moments for me were when I was on top of the ship looking out at the serene untouched enviroment. i was wrapped up warm but the cold wind on my face and the silence was amazing. Usually we are surrounded by the noise of people and traffic but when you are the only one looking out and there is no-one in sight and just the peace of solitude all around it is simply breathtaking.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our leader was an Aussie called Woody who was always around wearing his shorts, whatever the weather. The group leader was very experienced and ran a well organised and ordered team of professionals. He kept the slight distance I would expect from a leader but was at the same time highly approachable and willing to help if anyone needed anything at all. This chap knows what he is doing!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go, it is stunning. Make sure you take warm clothes though, and underlayers are always good as well.

FINNISH WILDERNESS WEEK

Overall a good experience though I think more could be made of it. There was quite a lot of free time and the activities were more or less an introduction without too much depth. I was expecting to learn a little more about the Finnish culture, especially as we were staying over Xmas. Also on the trip to Ruka ski slopes it would be good if a longer option for ski class was included. 1hr 40 mins was just enough to get me reaquainted and up on my feet and with only one novice slope in the resort it was a challenging day.

Most Inspirational Moment

Huskie sledding. Though bitterly cold the landscape was memorable especially as the daylight faded into dusk. The guide was a very interesting guy and the dogs were fantastic.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Very friendly and amenable though didn't provide much insight into the Finnish way of life or culture. The team as a whole did do a good job though and I don't want to take anything away from that.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The option to X country ski anywhere other than on the lake was very limited for a novice. There did not seem to be any trails as such and trying to attempt to go through the forest in deep virgin snow on undulating ground was very challenging if not impossible.

CYCLE THE BACKROADS OF SRI LANKA

A fantastic memorable holiday experience. Sri Lanka is a jewel set in the Indian Ocean. The friendly smiling faces were a joy to behold together with the colours, smells and the lush countryside….

Most Inspirational Moment

Sharing a train train trip from Kandy (PERADENI JUNCTION) to NANU-OYA with what seemed like thousands of other like minded passengers but in particular with a family and friends on a annual pilgrimage to a hilltop temple. The generosity and kindness of our fellow passengers with their food and snacks together with the magnificant scenery made this an inspirational journey............

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader SURESH GAMIATH BANDRA was truly amazing as nothing was too much trouble.....

Advice for Potential Travellers

Yes take this trip for a truly amazing experience before SRI LANKA is spoilt by hoards of holiday makers
