WALKING IN TUSCANY

A chance to see Tuscan life away from the tourist traps and beautiful Italian villages. Oh and the mountains of course – stunning!

Most Inspirational Moment

Italy means insistant relaxation for me and this holiday was no exception. You can't help but smile at the farm's dog's, Elvis, energy and we walked in places where we hardly saw anyone else.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Sara was great and always checking to make sure that everyone was okay, helping where necessary as I needed on several occasions. I decided to have a rest day and she gave me a good recommendation for a local walk - the hand drawn map complete with the location of friendly dogs was very accurate.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This is more than a stroll in the park and I wished I'd been a little better prepared and fitter before I went! But as this is a centre based holiday you can take a rest day if you want. Make sure you stop off in Castelnuovo for the best ice cream.

MONT BLANC TO THE MATTERHORN

Challenging walking, spectacular scenery in superb weather and excellent support.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing the Matterhorn in all its splendid glory.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Experienced, competent and friendly. What more could you ask for!!

Advice for Potential Travellers

This is a tough walking trip. Make sure you are fully prepared.

WALKING IN BOSNIA & HERZEGOVINA

An excellent trip.  Very good mixture of hiking and sightseeing.

Most Inspirational Moment

Swimming in the Neretva river - cold but exhilarating.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Sameer and Eldar were excellent.  Sameer was always willing to answer my many questions.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It would be a good idea to read about the history of the country - as there is much to learn.

MT TOUBKAL CLIMB

A great trip which is challenging but not technical with the reward of standing on the highest peak in the Atlas mountains.   The trip is in  my opinion very good value for money.

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching the top of mount Toubkal this was the reason for going. Knowing that at that time I was the highest person (well along with the rest of my group) in North Africa.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Rashid was very good , knowledgeable and always had a smile on his face. On  the first day the pace he set appeared brisk taking into acount the temperature and that he had not had time to gauge the capabilities of the group. He always however had a colleague bringing up the rear. Thereafter, particularly on summit day the speed was more sedate.Went out of his way to arrange mule rides for some of the group on the final days descent to Imlil

Advice for Potential Travellers

First  if travelling by own steam, when arriving at Marrakech airport make sure you ask what the airport fare to the Hotel is before agreeing taxi ride. The trip notes give you an idea what to pay. taxi drivers will try to take advantage. We travelled in  September and it is hot  when the sun rises above the mountains, particularly at the lower altitude and as there is little shade.  Make sure you have plenty of water . Be careful what you eat the day before you start on  the walk having a dodgy stomach can seriously ruin  your trip. The refuge (base camp)  is fairly basic we had a room for 16 hence it may be difficult to sleep  also you are up early on  the two summit days . The climb up to Toubkal is not technically difficult although the path is rough and dusty and a times is fairly steep.  My opinion is that the descent is trickier as there are points which can be slippy so walking poles may assist.Food on  the trip is generally good a lot of cooked vegatables. If you like alcohol be warned the Hotel in  Marrakech may be one of the few places you can order it.Try the Italian Ice cream restaraunt  about fifteen minutes from the hotel on the way to the Souks (which  will take around 45 minutes to walk).

CYCLE CILENTO & AMALFI

A great cycling holiday packing in decent cycling, spectacular coastal routes, swimming opportunities good food and lovely accommodation.

Most Inspirational Moment

There were lots. Just being on a bike in beautiful surroundings. Rounding a bend and to see yet another spectacular view. Making that last push before lunch and being rewarded with a delicious meal eaten outside on lovely terrace in an out-of-the-way trattoria. Swimming at a hotel's own beach at the end of long day's cycling. Climbing the steps up to Ravello and seeing Amalfi below us. Eating breakfast on the terrace above Amalfi's town square with the church's bells pealing. Being able to wander around classic ruins in Paestum without crowds or tour guides.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Peter was an absolutely fantastic group leader. From the moment he picked the group up at the airport to seeing us off very early on our day of our departure Peter really looked after us all. He was kind, knowledgeable and interesting. He paced the rides just right for everyone's ability and factored in plenty of coffee and ice cream stops. Peter knew some great places to eat and to swim and had obviously planned and researched the rides really thoroughly - he made sure that we all got the very most out of the holiday, without rushing us and was always good humoured.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you like having your stuff with you, consider taking along a panier or handlebar bag  - the bikes we were supplied with had a rack for this purpose. The support vehicle was always close so people, if they wanted, could put stuff in it and get to it pretty frequently. Water was available both from the van and from fountains in villages we stopped at along the way. Padded cycling shorts are worth taking along  - even if you're a regular cyclist.

CYCLE CILENTO & AMALFI

This trip was a wonderful mixture of cycling in a stunningly beautiful part of the world together with time to enjoy the sights and also Italian cuisine/coffee/amazing ice creams plus to swim in the sea/pools.

Most Inspirational Moment

Cycling the Amalfi coast road particularly as the sun was setting behind us and the lights of Positano were appearing and twinkling.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Peter is a superb leader who balanced the responsibilities of leadership really well. He is very knowledgable and informative about the history, geography and culture of the area plus able to find and negotiate tradional food at unbelieveably good prices.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Bring your swimming costume. If coming in the summer months expect it to be HOT. Even in late Sept the hill climbs were pretty hot and it was a relief to jump into the sea or pool at the end of the day.

A WEEK IN JORDAN

A good trip, with the choice of sights in the country exactly what we wanted.  A lot was covered – don’t expect lots of lie-ins on this trip!  Petra was the star attraction when we booked and the trip spent a good amount of time here with excellent coverage and options.

Most Inspirational Moment

The first sight of the Treasury at Petra was awesome.  We did it by night, as recommended by the tour guide, which was an excellent tip.  The whole experience of Petra exceeded the high expectations we had!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Enthusiast, knowledgeable, engaging - although he sometimes struggled with time management.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Jordan is an excellent country full of interesting sights and deep history, and the people are very friendly and welcoming.  It would be best to have some Jordanian currency on you at arrival and not rely on local facilities.  Our flight times also meant that as a week off from work there was little downtime on returning.  If you get motion sick, come prepared with tablets for the Red Sea and desert 4x4s.  Finally, have a great time!

THE AMALFI COAST

Another ten out of ten holiday with Exodus.   This was our first walking holiday, it won’t be our last we are already looking at next years

Most Inspirational Moment

Every walk was as good as each other.  At times a litttle tough but all very enjoyable.  The hotel was superb, it was more like staying with a family, they all made us very welcome during the entire stay.  The food was wonderful, four courses every night and all delicious.  The evenings spent in the kitchen were great fun.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Juanne our leader was excellent.  He was always most helpful, considerate and fun to be with.  He led the walks with enthusiasm and kept the pace to suit us all.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Most of the reviews for this holiday mention that the walking is hard going.  Although I would agree to this they were all manageable.  We are in our sixties and coped well but if you should have severe knee problems the steps down at the end of the walks could prove a little difficult as there are a lot of them.

KERALA & TROPICAL INDIA

Terriffic holiday, great cycling, genuinly friendly locals even asking for pictures with us. Good hotels in interesting locations. Food fantastic.

Most Inspirational Moment

On the cycling side the 13k climb to Ooty and the 23k descent the following day. Hard to pick otherwise but particlarly enjoyed the moment when one of the ferry's was on strike and we had to hire a fishing boat and get our bikes into the hold.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Visnu was a font of knowledge on tour, with us at all times explaining what was happening around us. He also ran a whip so that he could organise all our food and tea stops for us. It worked out very cheap and easy.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Find the time to do this trip.

WALKING IN TUSCANY

This trip far exceeded my expectations, and I achieved far more than I ever thought I could.  It is in such a beautiful region of Tuscany and the walks up the mountains were in an untouched wildeness, that I feel very fortunate to have seen.

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching the top of Monte Prado, the highest peak in Tuscany.

Thoughts on Group Leader

There will be one or two people in your life, who will have a huge impact on you, and Sara Bull had that impact on all of us.  She is a very experienced leader, and has a fountain of knowledge, which she shares with you of the local area from the history, to the villages and towns, flora and fauna etc. She kept us going with treats of biscuits and sweeties, and she led from the front and from the back, to ensure that those who were a bit slower reached the tops of the mountains along with the rest of us.  She is the kindest and most thoughtful person I have ever met, and if you come on this holiday you will have a very memorable time, and you will feel extremely privileged to have met her.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Walking poles are essential, as they are a great help both on the climbs up the montains, and on your way back down.  If you are thinking of coming, just book it, you will have a wonderful time.
