Tour du Mont Blanc Hotel Trek

Jeffry, our guide, added so much to the experience. He has a variety of interests that related to our hike and imparted them on the group as we went. His daily warmups, knowledge about local geology/botany/wildlife, ability to connect and have humor with each guest, and a passion for the natural world added more to the experience than any company could hope for.

Most Inspirational Moment

Stopping to enjoy the views and treats from the huts along the route, especially Bonatti. Hotel Astoria and the accommodation in Les Houches were standouts. Our guide, Jeffry!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Jeffry is a standout among other excellent adventure travel guides I've had.

Everest Base Camp Trek review by Julian Pomery

I’m 70. I had a yearning to see Everest since I was quite young. As I grew older, I hoped to do the trip with my sons but the length of the trip was not conducive. I wasn’t particularly fit but trained for a few months beforehand, not knowing if I could manage the amount of walking , let alone the unknown element of altitude.
Arriving in Kathmandu, the hotel was excellent and we had time to visit the old city of Thamel.
The flight to Lukla was a great experience in a small plane, next the start of the trek.
The ‘Teahouses’ along the way offered a warm convivial welcome, with varying numbers of other trekkers present. Suspension-bridge crossings, some several hundred metres long were great! We were lucky to have clear visibility and sunshine nearly every day as we progressed ever higher amid awe-inspiring scenery, expertly led by our leader Valerie Parkinson, and Nepalese guide Saroje. Our yakman Nawang took care of all our luggage except for our light daysacks.
We gazed up at Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Macalu, Pumori, to name but a few peaks. From various vantage points including the aptly named Everest View Hotel, we had excellent views of Everest with the South Summit and South Col.
We experienced at first hand the logistical marvel of how everything is transported up here; by yak, mule, dzo or porter.
Bird-life included Vultures and Golden Eagles soaring overhead, plus Tibetan Snow birds that took a fancy to my lemon drizzle cake on Kala Patthar during our final acclimatisation trek.
After taking in the Kumbhu Glacier, we reached Gorak Shep before the final push to Everest Base Camp itself. Unlike most other treks, we had ample time at Base Camp rock before the short walk to one of the expedition camps where we stayed overnight, amongst an array of camps looking like something out of a Bond movie. We witnessed a massive avalanche, and spent time on the ice shelf, truly surreal amongst the surrounding peaks.
Overall, it was tough but an utterly amazing experience, in the competent hands of our leader Valerie, a lifetime goal achieved.

Most Inspirational Moment

Spending time at Base Camp with the group. Also attending prayers at Thyangboche Monastery

Five Star.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don't wait. Prepare well with your fitness. Tough, but a trip of a lifetime. Julian

Great overall communication up front. Helpful and prompt. Trip info was detailed and thorough. Our guide Jef was knowledgeable, thorough, organized, engaged, and had a great sense of humour. I would travel with him again I matter what company he worked for. You have a gem in this man! Lovely accommodations and a great choice of food. Top notch on all front you guys!

Most Inspirational Moment

We had great sunny weather for the most part, so the majestic mountain views were breathtaking. Even the two cloudy days were magical and calming.

Unforgettable Journey

This trip could not have been better. Everything was meticulously planned and flawlessly implemented, the lodgings were beautiful, and the itinerary was just what I wanted: wildlife-centered. The safari guides were truly super-human in their ability to track and find the animals. They seemed to communicate with them and read their moods, all the while talking quietly to us about the animals’ diet, behavior, habits, and lifespans. Because we covered some long distances, we were able to see a lot of the countryside of Botswana and Zimbabwe, and we got to go to places that I couldn’t have gotten to on my own. It was a all-around superb trip.

Most Inspirational Moment

All the wildlife sightings were special, but maybe the highlight was seeing the white rhinos, because they are so rare. We went in on foot with 2 guide/trackers and 2 members of Zimbabwe's anti-poaching unit. I really appreciated their passion for and dedication to protecting the animals. Seeing the rhinos also completed our sighting of the Big 5, so that was truly an ecstatic moment.

Group leader Onary Chimunda and our driver Sam Mnemo were exceptional. Onary went above and beyond in getting to know everyone personally, attending to unexpected problems, and team-building. He set up a WhatsApp group chat so we could all share our best photos. Not only did he see to all the logistics, but he personally cooked for us during our 2 days camping out in the Delta. Sam cheerfully drove us through some pretty rough terrain, always with energy and good humor. We were very lucky to have them as our guides.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you ever get the chance to go to Africa, drop everything and join this trip.

Jon guide trip

Has always been on my bucket list! Did not disappoint.

Most Inspirational Moment

All of it. Wonderful adventure!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Jon was excellent! So knowledgeable and full of sagas, takes, folklore! Was kind and a very polite man. He made the trip!!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Plan for windy weather most of the time, good walking shoes/boots and to enjoy the moments!

Discover Costa Rica

Holiday very much in line with expectations. Very important to us to have a great guide (Andreas Herrera) and safe driver (Carlos) and both were excellent.

Most Inspirational Moment

Everything was good, but if we need to pick a few highlights, we would include the boat safaris in Tortuguero; zip-line experience in Arenal, early morning walk through Manuel Antonio National Park to the beach, everything at Esquinas Rainforest Lodge.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Super organised. Ensured that we achieved maximum possible every day with early starts to miss the crowds. He really assessed what the group wanted. He was extremely enthusiastic about everything and integrated very well into the group. He also had a great relationship with our driver, which again made it run very smoothly.

Mont Blanc Hotel Trip

14 day trip with 10 days of walking

Most Inspirational Moment

It's hard to pick the best moment as it was all so amazing. Perhaps the last day as we climbed Le Brevent, the scenery was stunning.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Egle Aleksiunaite - she was brilliant throughout.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Would thoroughly recommend this trip with Exodus. It was well organised and we didn't have to worry about any of the transport, accommodation as it was all done for us. All we had to do was walk and enjoy it! We also walked with some lovely people from the USA so that was a bonus.

The Five Stans of the Silk Road - Ashgabat to Almaty

The ‘Five Stans of Central Asia’ trip was all I hoped it would be. The range of experiences was fantastic, we travelled from desert to snow capped mountains and experienced both historical/cultural sites and gorgeous scenery. The guides were all very knowledgeable so we learnt a huge amount about the history and current daily life of all 5 countries. The range of opportunities to observe craft/industries/daily life was also very good. Even the long bus journeys were enjoyable as there was always so much to see, and the minibuses were comfortable and the drivers (on some tricky roads !) were very safe. I have been wanting to visit the Stans for more than 25 years and was not disappointed at all !

Most Inspirational Moment

It's impossible to come up with one highlight ! Maybe I could add a few from each country by saying: Turkmenistan was fascinating for the huge contrasts between the marble excesses of Ashgabat, the raw beauty of the desert and the astonishing firepit at Darvaza and the fascinating historical relicas at Kenya-Urgench Uzbekistan was memorable for the vastness of the desert and the beauty and magnificence of the turquoise tiled buildings in Khiva, Bukhara and Samarkand. I particularly liked exploring the walled city of Khiva, and the opportunities throughout the country to see how people really live. The silk factory at Margilan was so interesting. The stand out points in Tajikistan for me were the ancient ruins in Panjikent, and the sheer beauty of the seven Fann Lakes. And the Arbob Palace was fun ! Kyrgyzstan scored highly for its scenery - especially Son Kul Lake, and the snow-capped mountains, and for the two best 'experiences' - the felt museum in Kochkor and the (optional) eagle hunting was probably my favourite part of the whole trip. Finally, we had such a short time in Khazakstan, but Almaty was so different from everywhere else that it gave us another different view of the Stans - and the city tour was excellent - especially, for me, the musical instrument museum.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Jabbar and Dilshod were both excellent - knowledgeable, personable and understood our needs well. Hussain was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable, his delivery of information was occasionally not quite clear, but he made up for this by being funny and entertaining. Oxana was not as fluent in English as the others, but we could understand her well.

Discover Costa Rica

Carlos and Randal were both brilliant. They’re both really good at their jobs and showed respect to each other too which made for a great atmosphere when travelling with them. Carlos is such a great guide, he spotted so many animals and wanted to let us see them whenever possible.

Most Inspirational Moment

Tortuguero was amazing, so full of wildlife and so remote. Seeing so many sloths (thanks to Carlos spotting them) and seeing sloths active was incredible. The Don Juan coffee tour was also brilliant, we would recommend that to anyone who went in the trip.

Thoughts on Group Leader

We were really happy to have had Carlos leading our trip. He is so knowledgeable and happy to share as much or as little with you was you want. We had a great trip and would happily travel under Carlos again.

Discover Sri Lanka

Our guide Roshan had extensive knowledge of Sri Lanka and was very friendly and super helpful and patient. I loved the trip. I loved the variety of experiences… safaris, visiting Buddhist temples, tea plantations, cycling, train ride, white water rafting, Kandy festival, beach, shopping etc

Most Inspirational Moment

I loved the opportunity to see a bit more of real Sri Lanka away from the main tourist trails. I loved the day cycling through villages and eating at a local family's house and the day we went on tractors and played Sri Lankan games and ate in a family's hut. I ski loved the train ride.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Roshan has extensive knowledge about Sri Lanka and shared this with the group. He answered every question we asked. His love for his country shone through and enthused others. He was always helpful, friendly and enthusiastic. I left my scarf on the tractor and he willingly organised for it to be returned with his usual smile. I was so grateful. It rained one day and he has to reorganise the day and sorted out an excellent day for us. An amazing tour leader!!
