Tough walking but beautiful scenary and culture

I joined this tour because I wanted a mountain hiking adventure in a place I hadn’t been before. The journey to Villa Hermani is like going back in time, travelling first through the flat plains, then through a rather touristy hilly area, then up a dirt track to Magura, a remote village surrounded by hills and mountains.

The itinerary was well planned. There are basically three days in the Piatra Craiului national park with an overnight hut stay to enable the group to summit without a lot of climb. Then two days in the Bucegi mountains again with a hut stay. In between there is a walk through a gorge with 7 ladders.

The group which was high powered and diverse got along well, and creating a Whats App group to share pictures was a great idea.

Unfortunately the weather was mixed and we were unable to summit La Om and Omu because of poor conditions on those days.

I would recommend this tour unreservedly!

Most Inspirational Moment

Up in Cabana Malaieti watching flocks of sheep and the clouds passing over the Bucegi mountains above us.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent! The leader's grandparents were sheep farmers, and he had a wealth of knowledge about the local area, history and wild life. He adapted the itinerary to changing weather conditions and also provided easier alternatives to participants. Worked extremely hard driving the minibus, leading the walks and then sorting out accomodation and ordering meals at the huts. Also the staff at Villa Hermani were friendly.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Read the trip notes before travelling! This trip requires a high degree of fitness and ability to traverse rugged terrain in a remote area. Facilities at the mountain huts are basic - bring a sheet sleeping bag!

Hikers Paradise

Chamonix and the Mont Blanc massif are truly one of the world’s alpine splendors. The peaks and alpine glaciers envelop the valley with a gorgeous and stately majesty. The Mont Blanc Highlights ended up being the perfect level of challenge for me, with daily hikes of 6-8 miles and more importantly, 2,500-3,000 feet of elevation gain to an altitude of over 7,000 feet most days. Make sure you are in good condition and have good climbing boots so that you can enjoy the views with minimal discomfort. Our Chalet Chalupa was a nice home for the week, with Carol and Sebastien providing daily meals and comfy beds to allow recovery for the next day’s adventures. No laundry facilities here – take what you’ll need for the week. Our hosts also ferried us around in vans to each day’s hike start point where not supported by the valley’s excellent transit system. All the trails are very well maintained and the views – from someone who always thought the Yosemite Valley was the quintessential hikers paradise – the Mont Blanc massif just has to be seen to be believed. Life changing.

Most Inspirational Moment

I recall reaching the summit of the Aiguillette de Posettes and feeling like I had been transported to a scene from the Sound of Music. Crystal blue sky, majestic mountains, and just a newfound sense for the splendor of this beautiful world we live in.

Thoughts on Group Leader

This was the key ingredient. Adrian Redondo was our leader and he was so much more than that. This is a young man who lives for the mountains and his love for this environment was absolutely infectious. Adrian is remarkably fit and a strong technical climber whose capabilities make less seasoned hikers more comfortable and confident in his care. Beyond this, he is a charismatic individual who just infused our hikes with a sense of fun and awe for what surrounded us. A cosmopolitan traveler and thinker, he helped open my eyes anew to the beauty and adventure of these alpine landscapes. A truly remarkable young man.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I think the descriptions of the hiking expectations on the website are accurate, but interpret them literally. A “moderate” hiking level in this part of the world translates closer to “challenging or difficult” per the diluted definitions I’m accustomed to reading in the U.S. Just take the time to condition yourself for consecutive days of hiking up and down steep hillsides so that you can fully appreciate the grandeur surrounding you without distraction. Our group did a very good job of self-selection which enabled all of us to uniformly push ourselves to a healthy limit each day, achieving a feeling of accomplishment which we rewarded with cups of hot chocolate or an icy “alpine” beer at the top of most climbs.

Our great Italian cycling adventure

We thoroughly enjoyed our Exodus cycling trip from Matera to Leece in June 2025. As first time visitors to this part of Italy we really appreciated our guide, Manni’s knowledge of the area, contemporary and historical. We had a great group of fellow cyclists, eleven of us in total. The accommodation was excellent as were our bikes. This is our second Exodus cycle trip and we would thoroughly recommend the trip.

Most Inspirational Moment

The leadership shown by Manni and Leo and the commadiere of our 'team' as we tackled the 'undulations' in 38 degree heat. Leo's regular appearance in the van with water to help us hydrate, not to mention the daily fresh fruit and nuts.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Manni (Emanuele) was excellent. He was very organised, and along with Leo, ensured things ran smoothly. He went the extra mile in noting the birthday of one of our 'team' was during our cycle. He organised a cake in celebration. His recommendations for dinner each night were excellent.

Advice for Potential Travellers

We booked two extra nights in Matera ahead of the commencement of the trip and would recommend this. There is so much to see and enjoy in this very special town.

A fascinating mix of history and culture

A great introduction to three countries, all similar but different. An excellent opportunity to learn about the history of the region, its culture and its cuisine.

Most Inspirational Moment

There were several, but the two most outstanding memories were the visits to two islands. Vrångö Island from Gothenburg. (Do take the opportunity to walk around the whole island). And the Fortress Island in Helsinki - Suomenlinna (very interesting history fully explained in the museum). Plus the excellent museums in Oslo (especially the Nobel Peace Centre), in Gothenburg, Stockholm (the ABBA museum is a must, if you are a fan) and Helsinki.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Peter was excellent with extensive knowledge of the history and culture of the region. And his recommendations for restaurants and attractions were excellent.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just one day in Oslo is not enough, especially as some (but not all) museums are closed on Monday. Either fly out a day early or try to get an early morning flight on the Sunday. Cashless is everywhere and often the only way to pay. You only need cash for the guide. When visiting the Vasa museum I would recommend taking the free guided tour which is very informative. The ferry is more like a cruise ship with a choice of many restaurants. The Kobba restaurant is a very relaxing as the ship glides through the Stockholm Archipelago with a piano playing in the background.

Mont Blanc Hiking Highlights

Great trip hiking the highlights of Mont Blanc. Excellent leader who was extremely fit, organised, knowledgeable, and had a great sense of humour. Always willing to give helpful advice and lend a hand. Styed in a very clean and comfortable catered chalet, run by Sebastien and Carolina. They were very friendly and approachable and made us very welcome, so it felt like home for the week. They provided us with excellent fresh cooked meals and decent packed lunches, and wonderful cake/pastries were always waiting for us at the end of the hike! Scenery in the mountains was stunning and there was a varied selection of walks.

Most Inspirational Moment

The wonderful views of the mountains and glaciers all week Hot chocolate and ice cream in Italy plus the wonderful wildflowers and more gentle traverses of that side of the mountains. The Aiguille du Midi on our day off along with the Montenvers traverse walk to Mer de Glace The last day of all day snow capped peaks and the stunning Lac Blanc walk

Thoughts on Group Leader

Adrian was an excellent leader. Extremely fit, passionate about the area and very knowledgeable about the area and general mountain information. He was able to motivate and encourage, wasn't overbearing, but managed the group well despite mixed abilities so everyone enjoyed it. Would certainly be happy to see him again on further trips!

Ancient & Modern Japan

the hotels were nicer quality than my expectation. The tour guide was very good at providing recommendations for places to eat and was very nice and proactive with questions asked.

Most Inspirational Moment

I think the tour group was great. I liked having independence to see the sites on my own. I also felt like I really got to know the country by using the public transportation. We had a very good feel of both modern and ancient japan based on the itinerary.

Thoughts on Group Leader

I thought Kan did a good job guiding us. Maybe some more information about restaurants in advance so reservations could be made would be helpful but I thought he was really nice and did a great job leading us through the country.

Excellent immersive tour of Morocco

This was a thoroughly enjoyable tour, taking you from the souks to the mountains, to the Sahara to the Atlantic shore. Every day presented a new and engaging view of Morocco.

Most Inspirational Moment

There were many inspiring moments, but certainly standing at the edge of the Sahara at sunset sent shivers up my spine1

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader, Abderrahim Toudaoui, made the trip extra special. He had an upbeat, engaging and warm personality. He made sure all went well, which for me included personal safety, since I use a cane. Abder was outstanding. I will always remember him not just as a tour leader, but as a friend.

Advice for Potential Travellers

On this tour, you will soon feel immersed in the culture of Morocco. Morocco is a lively, friendly place that respects and preserves its traditions. I felt welcomed by its people.

Great scenic, challenging hikes from comfortable catered chalet

Great week of scenic and challenging mountain hikes led by Adrian who is an extremely fit, enthusiastic and knowledgeable mountain guide leader with a great sense of humour! Based a short bus ride outside of the pretty town of Chamonix in a lovely catered chalet, which is hosted by the amazing Sebastien and Carolina , who provided a clean, comfortable and friendly home from home environment during our stay. They kept us extremely well fed and watered. There were fresh baked croissants for breakfast and a delicious cake or pastry waiting on our return in the afternoons, followed by a delicious home cooked three course dinner. They also did a great job ferrying us around to trailheads and bus stops in the minibus.

Most Inspirational Moment

Being constantly surrounded by the stunning snow capped mountains and glaciers. Favourite hikes include the Italian Val Ferret with legendary hot chocolate, incredible wild flowers and well deserved ice cream at the end. Also the hike to the stunning Lac Blanc from La Flegere, which included a cable car ascent over the valley, and our free day hike from the middle cable car station of Aiguille du Midi, along the valley to the Mer de Glace Glacier with descent by cog railway. Views from the top of Aiguille du Midi were breathtaking, not only because they were beautiful, but also because there were 35kmph winds and sub zero temperatures! Sadly the cloud base was too low and it was too windy for the cable car over the glacier to Italy to run, but that was our only disappointment all week, and the walk made up for it!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Adrian was an extremely good leader. He is incredibly fit, very knowledgeable and a good judge of the group's ability for setting pace without being restrictive. He was very good humoured and helpful, and helped us negotiate the more challenging sections of the walk without any pressure. He kept the group motivated and took an interest in everyone. Couldn't fault him.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It's a week that requires a good level of fitness to get the most out of it. There are a lot of steep climbs over rough terrain, and some more tricky sections which are not suited to people who are scared of heights. Expect to negotiate steps, rocks, ladders, chains, wires, suspension bridges and some steep and narrow sections, but the mountain scenery more than makes up for the effort required. It's a great way to see some of the gorgeous scenery of the Mount Blanc circuit without the need for two weeks of long and strenuous days, there's no roughing it or constant moving from place to place, so you can have plenty of down time to relax and take it all in.

6/5 Stars!!

This trip was truly once in a lifetime. The scenery is unmatched— a take-your-breath-away experience every single day. The hiking was extremely challenging but still doable, what a privilege to be able to push yourself! The organization and accommodations were great making for a smoothly run adventure.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Adrian was incredible. Knowledgeable, communicative and fun-seeking. He looked out for all members of our large (14 person) group and was realistic in his explanations of each day’s adventure.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I highly suggest investing in a water bladder!

Best of Norway, Sweden & Finland

Extremely well guided by Peter. Large variety of things to do and see in all the places. Very good balance between guided activities and free time to do your own thing.

Most Inspirational Moment

Our own visited to Upsala (no longer part of the itinerary), but mainly because, by chance, we stayed (unplanned) for a 2 hour concert in the cathedral conducted by Sir John Rutter.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Very helpful and nice disposition. Looked after lots of different interests within the group.
