This was the first trip Exodus have done to this area.. There is spectacular and varied scenery on route, wonderful people and definitely a journey to remember. I loved every minute of it.
If you like an adventure, travelling to relatively unexplored areas, enjoy Mountains, like an insight into the lives and culture of the local people and their history and don’t mind roughing it a bit, this is a trip for you.

Travelling in a small group, everyday we had new expereiences.
Glamping was definitely the standout experience for us. Early morning bird watching, walk with the local chief, lake sunset, no Wi-Fi, brilliant team and just the best ever.
Hitige was always patient and kind. He was very knowledgeable about so many aspects of Sri Lanka.
We are not beach people so our free day we spent at leisure in Galle . Less than a pound on the bus from outside the hotel. We also preferred eating at the hotel next door at the bay resort rather than the Marriott. We sat next to the ocean and had a great time for both evenings.
This was the trip of a lifetime – having long had Machu Picchu on our bucket-list: the actual experience (of arriving via the mountains) far exceeded all our expectations.
Being able to watch the Inti Raymi festival as part of the tour.
We are hugely appreciative of the care and passion with which our tour-leader (Holger) guided us all the way and ensured that all our needs and requests were met.
Be prepared for both hot days and very cold nights.
Spectacular Italian coast enjoyed on well planned walks plus excursions to Pompeii and Vesuvius from a comfortable and friendly hotel in a quiet and attractive village.
The path of the Gods
Excellent: in depth knowledge of the area, perfectly organised arrangements, when necessary going well beyond normal duty.
This is mountain terrain - can be steep and tricky underfoot.
I had booked this trip to visit Indonesia and see the Komodo dragons which did not disappoint. On the whole the trip was very well organised and the guide was exceptional.
However both the outgoing flight and transfer at Kuala Lumper and the return flight had very tight connection times. I have given some feedback to Malasian airlines as I do not feel that I should have had to run through a very large airport with bus transfer between international and domestic terminals to make my connection. The airline, knowing many ( at least 20) people needed this connection, should either have put on direct transport or guaranteed the flight be held to allow us to confortably get to the flight. Whilst reasonably fit,at 65 I expect this even without a 7Kg backpack I would struggle!!!
I also feel a little more time to acclimatise to the humidity and rest after the long journey before the first hike in the Jungle would have benefitted some of the group including myself. The Ecolodge at Bukit Lawang was anything but eco other than cold water which could easily heated by means of solar panels non of us could find anything eco about it. Whilst it was convenient for the jungle there were many other hotels close by that may have had better washing facilities. All the group felt a warm shower with sufficient water to actually wash, rather than a dribble , would have welcomed us to Indonesian heat better than this lodge.
On return to Medan there was bearly time to enjoy the pool at that hotel and to enable more sleep and avoid another early start, I wonder if there is not an airport hotel that would be more suitable.
There was one American lady on this trip who did not have the fitness required to be able to complete the trip without putting others at risk. Her deafness also caused some issues as she would rudely overtalk the leader and failed on many occasions to hear the istructions needed and Elly would constantly have to repeat them.
I really enjoyed the time we spent on the boat. The snorkelling with clear clean waters and corals in a better condition than I have previously seen were amazing. To see the Komodo dragons, that have been protected for a significant amount of time ensuring their protection was inspiring, showing that humans can sustain wildlife when the correct measures are put in place. The indonesian people also inspired me.
Elly was a fantastic leader a friendly caring individual with a positive outlook and always finding a solution to any problems we may have. I would fully recomend her ever vote for her as leader of the year.
Read the travel notes given by Exodus and prepare accordingly! Whilst this seems obvious it still amazes me that people do not always have the correct equipment and level of fitness required.
Good itinerary on holiday
Dawn walk to 3 chimneys
Friendly informative and understood her groups abilities
Book early
If you like hill walking and fancy an adventure, this has to be on your itinerary!
There were many. The scenery is epic! One evening, I fell asleep to the sound of a glacial river and cow bells ringing. Surrounded by snow capped mountains and flower filled meadows. Blissful Zen! Unforgettable.
We were very fortunate to be assigned Adrián as our mountain leader. We felt very safe in his capable and experienced hands. He provided an overview each evening on the following day’s route and made sure we understood what equipment and clothing would likely be required for that days walking. His humour, energy and enthusiasm kept us all energised and engaged. All of us finished the TMB feeling a little sad to be saying goodbye. And, we just as fortunate to be assigned Kieron as our camp leader. Not only was there a delicious 3 course meal every evening but cold beers and a proper Yorkshire tea brew were waiting for us on our return to camp. Kieron is a joy to be around. Always interested in learning about everyone’s day, he went out of his way to look after our group’s varying needs. Kieron has a wealth of experience to call upon if you’d like to know anything about the local area.
Being hill fit will be advantageous. There are some long walks, ascents and descents. Nothing particularly technical but walking poles and spikey crampons (when snow is still lying around) I felt, were worth bringing. There’s plenty of opportunities to wash and dry clothes so no need to bring too much stuff. The Exodus suggested pack list is useful.
This ranks as one of my all-time favourite trips. The hiking was sometimes tough, with long ascents and occasional snow traverses, river crossings and snow bridges, but we were rewarded with fabulous, far-reaching views. Opening our tent-flaps in the morning to see snow-topped mountains was breathtaking. Our guide (Adrian) and cook/camp leader (Kieron) were excellent.
There were many inspiring moments along the way, but reaching the high point on the last day and looking out over the Mont Blanc massif was very special.
Our guide (Adrian) was wonderful. He kept us all safe, well-informed and entertained, and created a great spirit of camaderie in our group. Our camp leader/cook (Kieron) was also excellent. The food was delicious and plentiful, and he made sure that tea, coffee, beer and tents were always waiting for us at the end of the day. We couldn’t have had a better team.
Get fit before your trip because you will enjoy it more. Don’t be put off by the camping! I think this aspect of the trip helped our group to bond and made the whole experience more enjoyable.
This trip isn’t for everyone. You have to be prepared for camping in the wild: sleeping in a tent to the sounds of lions, hyenas and hippos; rising with the sun in the early morning; and the joys of “bushy bushy” (if you know, you know). But with this trip comes some of the most exceptional wildlife viewing experiences I’ve had. And the unique experience of being among the wilderness made this feel like one of the most authentic safari holidays out there.
There are too many to choose from! If I had to focus on one, it would be encountering a leopard lounging on the branch of a dead tree as the sun descended behind the horizon. She provided some of the most photogenic of the trip wildlife photography of the trip, yet seemed so casually oblivious to our presence.
Kenny was a wonderful leader, as was the entirety of the support staff. Kenny was full of knowledge about the local wildlife and culture, and passionate about sharing this with the group. He was always quick to laughter and helpful and considerate whenever anyone needed his support. A big shout out to John too, our camps resident cook. His food was always delicious and catered for all our dietary requirements.
Make sure to pack sufficient layers for night time - especially in the winter. Temperatures can get very cold at night - a sharp contrast to the high temperatures during the day when the sun is out. Also, make sure to pack a buff, scarf or face mask for the bus drives. Roads are very dusty, and you will appreciate the scarf as something to breathe through on these parts of the journey.
This was a totally amazing and very real adventure! One of my all time favorites; for me, it ranks with Pakistan, Papua New Guinea and Rwanda. It’s not for the faint of heart – it’s tough and yet worth every squat on a toilet, dust in the eyes, bumpy roads and lack of privacy. It makes one feel totally alive. Plus it’s an incredibly beautiful and fascinating country filled with lovely people!
Didorali was an amazing tour guide. Solicitous, intelligent and speaks excellent English
