A clean, green, mountainous country.

Loved the airy, uncrowded mountain walks with profuse meadow flowers and views of rocky pinnacles. The two lakes were also incredibly picturesque and not spoilt. We enjoyed the family-run accommodation, food and wine as well. The day in Ljubljana was enjoyable (despite pouring rain) but I personally enjoyed the small town with its church, old houses, bee-keeping museum, wine merchant and ice cream parlour just as much.

Suddenly coming upon a fabulous mountain view after a steep walk up through meadows.

Thoughts on Group Leader

We had two very assured and competent leaders. They knew their patch very well. I felt I was in safe hands at all times whether they were leading walks or driving us, and when they suggested a variation to a walk they were right. They also had a good sense of humour. They worked hard at the various huts, taking our orders and bringing them, to avoid potential language problems.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The walks are not difficult overall in terms of length and terrain, but do be prepared for some steep gradients from time to time on the mountain days. They are well worth it but require quite a lot of puff!

Don’t take too much luggage. It soon becomes a pain, especially in small hotels with stairs. Take a travel kettle if you like to drink tea. Take cycling shorts.

Just Wow, reason why it's a Top 5 trek

This trek (early July ’18) was phenomenal. this is my first real trekking holiday and I have to tell you, I am converted now. the scenery all along the way is spectacular, and different each day! Going through 3 countries, more than 170 kms, and going from towns and villages to a handful of coffee drinkers at a refuge at 2000+ masl, really added variety to this trip. The first 2 days might be challenging ones for most, but then your body and mind sync, and then your only focus is when to stop taking pictures and not to get your breath back. Your body will love it, you will be at peace and most importantly, super fit after it’s all set and done. Work hard during the day, have a nice sleep on a comfy bed each night – what else do you want?

Realizing that my group of 3 was the best paced group my guide has ever had, and I kept up with them no problem. doing a Col in 2 hours where it should have taken 3, and still feel like a champ after all. Bring it on Annapurnas, you're next

Pete Smith, a legend. he was superb, well attentive and mindful of everyone. it was his first trek of the season and I am happy we got him. superb leader!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Yes, follow the fitness plan and break your boots in. Once you are there, let the mind take over and the body follow suit. It's not a race, it's a walk along one of the most beautiful treks out there. Bring camelback of 1.5-2L and a waterbottle (1L), you will need it

Andiamo!

Fantastic holiday which exceeded my expectations for my first walking holiday with Exodus. The scenery on all the walks was breathtaking, the stops for “elevenses ” and lunch were spectacular and exploring the picturesque towns and diving into the sea at the end of the walks was amazing. The itinerary was well-balanced with time to explore the towns/villages after or before the walks. The hotel and food was excellent and we enjoyed the cooking and pizza demonstrations. They also catered very well for dietary requirements. Our guide Vania was excellent and as a group we got on very well! Overall, an incredible holiday!

Vania was an excellent guide - she was enthusiastic, organised, engaging and great fun to be around. She set a good pace for the week and supported members of the group who suffered from vertigo by helping them through the challenging sections. What really stood out was how well liked Vania is by the local hotel staff and cafe staff etc; her kindness and enthusiasm is recognised by all.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I would say sections of the walks were more moderate than leisurely. There are a lot of steps in most of the walks and some up-hill sections were steep. Some sections are exposed. The heat added an extra challenge. Read the trip notes!

A bit of everything

This is a trip of two halves – the first week the focus on the flora and fauna of Borneo and the second week the multicultural nature of Malaysia in the cities on the Peninsula. I enjoyed the variety of the trip and also the chance to try out the different types of Malaysian cuisine.

Most Inspirational Moment

In Borneo, seeing an orangutan in the wild and a heard of Pigmy elephants from a boat on the Kinabatangan River. We had seen a number of the animals in the sanctuary's and rehab centre in Sepilok but very special to see them in their own habitat. On the Peninsula I really enjoyed exploring Malacca and all the steet art and the food tour in KL was great fun

Thoughts on Group Leader

We had two group leaders, one for Borneo and one for the Peninsula, Johmin (J) and Jeremy respectively. Both were well organised and easy to get along with and had good knowledge of their country as well as a good senses of humour. This is the first time on a trip I have had 2 tour leaders but due to the varied nature of the trip it worked very well in this case

Advice for Potential Travellers

I would recommend taking a sheet sleeping bag and lots of deet for the longhouse as the blankets provided are very short. I took mine and felt quite cosy and protected from the bugs! take binoculars for the wild life - monkeys climb quite high up trees! take light comfortable clothing for the humid weather

Mongolia: Steppes, Deserts and Nomads - Nadaam Festival

An amazing trip to an amazing country.

Most Inspirational Moment

The tour programme was well-planned and interesting and I enjoyed the variety and contrast of the experiences from the busy Nadaam to the sparsely-populated wide open spaces of the steppe and desert; the sense of having travelled long distances during the day, followed by a reminder of how small we are under the billions of stars in the clear night sky; and the opportunity to enjoy the sophisticated accomplishments of the singers, musicians and contortionists, as well as the raw beauty of the sand dunes.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Namjaa was an excellent tour leader, who was knowledgeable, calm, friendly, good-humoured and responsive to the group's requests. For example, at our request he organised for us to visit a nomadic family that was less used to receiving tour groups, as well as a cashmere factory shop.

Advice for Potential Travellers

* Be prepared for some very long drives (11 hours) across bumpy tracks. * You will not go hungry on this trip. On the contrary, the food was plentiful (often four courses at lunch and the same again for the evening meal) and the lunchtime and evening meals started with a delicious salad. * Mongolia is the world's second largest producer of cashmere, so take some extra money and treat yourself (and/or someone else) to a gorgeous, easy to carry gift.

TWH: 827 Mont Blanc to the Matterhorn

A Memorable Trek
This trip had everything, meadows, mountains, snow, rock and the thrill of the great outdoors. However, the trip wasn’t just about the wonderful scenery and hiking, a large part of its success was the team spirit that was fostered by our leader John Briggs and camp manager Egle.

Most Inspirational Moment

There were several highlights, however, I very much liked the steady ascent to Villa and Col Torrent. The panoramic views of the vast mountain range were wonderful.

Thoughts on Group Leader

John Briggs is an outstanding leader, multi-talented. His practical instruction on how to proceed on difficult terrain was most helpful. He was always prepared to go the extra mile to ensure each day was a success. Overall John displayed exceptional leadership skills. I have no hesitation in nominating John for the annual leader awards. John was ably assisted by Egle, together their pleasant manner added greatly to group bonding and the forming of new friendships. On returning from a trek, Egle would have tents set up and coffee and biscuits at the ready. The delicious, wholesome 3 course meals were cooked on a gas stove. in the middle of nowhere, (magic) and all done with a smile.

Advice for Potential Travellers

On our trip in early July we encountered several snow fields. I found it useful to have a light set of walking crampons.

Best intro to group trekking hols

This was an amazing trip from the breath taking scenery to the wonderful group dynamics to the scrumptious camp food and even the fact that we all had 3 man comfortable tents. The itinery was excellent and we were blessed with glorious sunshine and no storms for our 2 weeks. The leader paced our group very well and gave detailed instructions as to how much water we should pack each day. Our day packs always included our extra clothing and even though we hardly used It, we were fully aware of the likelihood that the weather conditions could change dramatically while in the mountains. The camp sites were in some of the most amazing places on the trips with glacier views or stunning lakes nearby. The showers and facilities were great and the 2 wild camp sites were fun where we enjoyed the basics but still got to go to a local hotel to eat. The food on the trip at camp was extraordinary and we got to make our own sandwiches from a wonderful selection of local produce. Be prepared to eat your own body weight in grub….you will need the energy. Not sure we all lost weight though;) Walking poles are a must and I have continued to use them since my return.
Do take note of the packing lists and bring everything. I used it all. There were challenging days on this trek and training on real hills not just steps/stairs in my opinion is vital. We trekked in snow, over some difficult river crossings and were travelling up steep gradients for many hours at times, but every step was worth it when we experienced the best views or took advantage of a cool drink or coffee at the many refuge stops. Budget for these stops the prices vary from country to country, you only need Euros. We were always given ample time to relax and Paul told us great spots for photos. It was best to keep up with the group as much as possible and although I took loads of photos I would suggest you do not stop and lag behind, you really do get time to take everything and have a wonderful record of your trip on your return.
Overall this was the adventure I hoped for and went way beyond my expectations – thank you one and all.

Excellent, informed and patient. He took the time even on a rest day which was his free time as well to show us his favourite swimming pool.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Do the training. Pack everything on the list. Use mole skin and blister prevention. Include a camel back. Help with the duties in camp as it really made our group gel quickly. Note you will eventually learn to put the tent down (probably by day 3 or 4) and have many laughs as you attempt to get to grips with it. Do not be shy to pack large lunches you will need the energy!!

Bosnia and Beyond

The trip was fantastic!!! The transportation was comfortable and efficient, the accommodations were very nice and well organized, the group leader, Evelin Balta, was the best due to his passion of the region, knowledge of the history and sites, and overall concern for everyone in the group. I would highly recommend this trip due to the comprehensive coverage of the region, the excellent food, and great sites and destinations.

Most Inspirational Moment

We were fortunate to be in the country during the World Cup. Watching how passionate the people were about the game and in particular with Croatia advancing, it was really exciting. Also, when we went to the local farms and homes to learn about their lives and have a most incredible meal of the local region was fantastic.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Evelin Balta is one of a kind. His energy and spirit of youth makes you want to join him in everything he suggested. His passion for the region, its history, the people, and overall positive aspects of each country was inspiring and truly educational. His concern for each and every one of us was very appreciated. He made sure we were prepared for each activity, made sure our meals were to our specification, included everyone in the conversation but also went out of his way to connect personally to each and every member of the group. He is a treasure to the company.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just do it. It is a fascinating part of the world, the food is something to experience, and the people are friendly and very diverse. It is a shining example of how different cultures, beliefs, and backgrounds can all live together in harmony.
