Advice for Potential Travellers

Take plenty of memory on your phone as you’ll get great photo opportunities

AWeek in Jordan

I’ve recently returned from an amazing trip to Jordan. The highlight of the trip for me was visiting Petra. I’m glad we had two days there, but it still wasn’t enough time to see everything. The place is huge. I went to the “Petra by night” event and was a bit disappointed it was so short, but it was an amazing sight to see all the lights. Another great tour was Jerash. It was wonderful to walk through so much history.

Most Inspirational Moment

The two most inspirational moments for me was when I managed to climb up both sets of stairs to the "High Place of Sacrifice " and the stairs to the "monastery". I am not the fittest but even though it took a while I made it. The views from the High place of Sacrifice were stunning and well worth the climb.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader Khaldoun was a very informative guide who made the trip one to remember. His love for his country was clearly shown by the way he spoke about day to day life in Jordan. Nothing ever fazed him, even when I was late getting back to the meeting point after our first day at Petra! He is a proud family man, who told us stories about life and religion through his family. His English was perfect too.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Try everything. Don't give up, keep going. It's well worth it.

Beautiful Jordan

This was a fabulous trip, very full on with lots to squeeze in but well worth it.

Most Inspirational Moment

Star gazing in the Wadi Rum.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Very knowledgeable. He had a difficult week due to a misunderstanding with a guest and a poor hotel in Petra. When asked questions on the bus he needs to repeat it as those at the back can’t hear the question. Did not handle complaints very well.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Do this trip as so much is seen. It’s not a relaxing holiday but worth the long days. Pack a small bag for Wadi Rum. Do take a proper water bottle. Spend longer at Petra on second day.

Just brilliant!

Great trip in a beautiful country. So much to see and do.

Most Inspirational Moment

Petra was beyond anything I’d imagined, but the time spent in the Wadi Rum was my favourite part of the trip. I loved the beauty and peace of the desert, watching the sunset from the camp and the starry skies.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Muayad was a great leader. He looked after us well and was so knowledgeable and passionate about his country.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go a day early if you can. The group flight arrived at the hotel at 2am, and then you’re up at 6:30 and the trip is full on from there!

Such a great experience

An all around excellent tour

Most Inspirational Moment

Experiencing the foods eaten by the everyday Jordanian - the best falafel, the spice shop, Turkish coffee, fresh picked strawberries, dinner with the Jordanian family and getting acquainted with them.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Muayad Mismar took care of each member of the group as though they were the only participant, while still creating a great team atmosphere. His enthusiasm for his country was infectious.

A Week in Jordan

My first trip with Exodus. I had high expectations but the reality exceeded them all. Jordan is a fascinating country. Every day of the trip was packed with experiences and each day was distinctly different from the one before. The landscapes were dramatic and varied. We would be shopping for fruit in a market one minute and visiting a Roman theatre the next. The food was a real treat too. All the Jordanian people we met were incredibly friendly and welcoming. I thought I would visit Jordan the once and move on to visit other places but I left wanting to return.

Most Inspirational Moment

I thought it would be Petra but I think that was pipped by being in Wadi Rum by a fire, drinking Jordanian coffee and being able to converse with a Bedouin man who had lived through such a period of change.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Absolutely outstanding. The experience was totally enhanced by his knowledge and passion about the history and culture. Great sense of humour and Mouyad worked tirelessly to ensure that we had the best possible experience. It was my first trip with Exodus and I will be amazed if I encounter another guide as good.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you go in August, don’t bother with walking boots. I didn’t wear mine because it was too hot.

Incredible trip

This is definitely the trip to do to discover the best of what Jordan has to offer in just 1 week. From camping in the red sand deserts of Wadi Rum to modern comfort relaxing by the Dead Sea, to spending two incredible days exploring the famous Petra, to local food, cooking classes, dinner with a local family and exploring the sights of Amman and Aqaba, this trip has it all!

Most Inspirational Moment

Every single day! We absolutely loved camping in Wadi Rum - the tents were amazing, the food was incredible, there were so many stars. We loved the 4x4 ride, the campfire outside, the red sand, the sand dunes and the 3-4000 year old graffiti Our tour guide was Muayad and he was exceptional. He made us feel at home in Jordan and treated us like family. Muayad took us to all the local places to eat, staying away from the tourist traps. He taught us so much about Jordan, and really treated us all like individuals, helping each and every one of us.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Muayad brought Jordan alive for us, this is honestly one of the best trips I have ever done, Jordan has such an incredible amount to offer. Muayad's knowledge and passion for Jordan really shone through and he really tried his best to make everything perfect for us. Best tour guide ever!

Advice for Potential Travellers

A Week in Jordan - a great adventure

A well organised trip visiting the main highlights of Jordan in a week. We had a great guide, Nuwar Jodeh, who shared with us her vast knowledge or Jordan and its history. The accommodation on the whole was great and we were well looked after in the hotels with regards to food and services. Also there was time to relax when visiting the Red and Dead Seas. Nuwar and our driver ensured we had a magical tour discovering the highlights of this amazing country. I had the pleasure of sharing it with a great group of people too.

Most Inspirational Moment

Visiting the Treasury at Petra. The site itself is vast with lots of historical sights to see which did involve a lot of walking and climbing up steps, however everyone was free to do as they wished so no pressure to walk miles if you didn't want to.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Nuwar our group leader was brilliant, she looked after us and ensured we had the best time during our stay in Jordan. She was very organised and was flexible when requests were made to adjust our schedule, eg leaving the hotel earlier to visit Petra when the weather was a bit cooler and before the crowds arrived.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Ensure you bring some good walking shoes (boots not necessary), to ensure you enjoy the walks, and a rucksack/bag for the overnight stay in Wadi Rum.

Exceptional

This trip was phenomenal. Every day, we were treated to incredible adventures, experiences to last a life time. An action packed week with a brilliant group of kind, fun people who for that week became your family in Jordan. Ayyad, the tour leader was brilliant. I booked this one week before, literally looked in the brochure and thought ok this sounds good. A mix of adventure, culture. With no expectations, I was blown away. The entire group said ‘I’m wowed out’, then Ayyat will say look up and again, mesmerised. Jordan was a dream. The experiences were sensational, breath-taking. Exodus organisation was fantastic. You turn up and enjoy, leave the organisation etc to them. Your job is to enjoy the experience, be present and soak it all in. Returned from here with the blues for three weeks. A magical week. Go, go, go. Something for everyone!

Most Inspirational Moment

Every day, from waking hearing the morning prayer, the city of Petra, the bus journeys watching the contrast of landscapes change hour by hour. Jerash, the hikes for two days in Petra were out of this world, chilling at the high place of sacrifice. The Jordan Canyon, wow. Watermelon, the juiciest ever on the side of the road. Wadi Rum, the jeeps, camels, camping, stars. Mesmerised took be back to Africa. Sunrise in the desert. A lot of spiritual energy here. Dinner with the Jordanian family. The Bakery and the charming Lawrence on the way to WadiRum, Wadi Rum train station. We covered so much, oh and the Dead sea, wow, wow, wow. This trip is what you make of it, eyes wide open. An enrichening soul journey.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Fantastic sunny disposition of Ayyad. A fountain of knowledge. If only I could remember a 1/4 of what he shared. The takeaway was to be present, put the phone away and experience Jordan with all your senses. Ayyad went out of his way to provide our group with a trip which we'll all remember fondly. Months later the group are in touch. Ayyad knew the best way to do things with his insight, the right routes in Petra, the added touched, surprises on the trip. Thank you!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go, go, go. Pack your hiking boots, not trainers as the walks are long, better support in proper boots. Pack linen. Don't forget small day bag for the hikes etc and a bag to put your nits in for the one night camping. Be open minded, no expectations and flow. It is well organised, all you have to do is book it, pack and arrive on time at the airport. It felt like a longer holiday than one week, we covered so much. Absolutely fantastic.

Jordan is more than you expect

The trip only lasted a week, but Jordan is not a big country, and the itinerary is well planned – busy, but with some down time – so you can fit so much in without feeling rushed. There is so much more than “just” Petra. Wadi Rum – the site for Lawrence of Arabia’s gathering of the tribes, and location for the film (and for “The Martian”, the live action “Aladdin”, and “Dune”) – is spectacular. Floating in the Dead Sea is a unique experience, and the biblical, Roman, and Crusader sites are all fascinating.

Most Inspirational Moment

The first sight of the Treasury in Petra is always going to be a moment to remember; the biblical sites of Mt Nebo, where Moses had his view of the Promised Land, and Bethany where John baptised Jesus, are very moving, even if you are not religious; and Wadi Rum, with its historical significance and wonderful stars viewed from round the campfire, is unforgettable.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ayyad was the perfect host for Jordan. He was kind, patient, funny, knowledgeable, and efficient, and did everything possible to ensure that all went as planned. He kept us well updated on the itinerary for each day and the next, so we knew what to expect. As well as suggesting good restaurants for dinner, he arranged a couple of excellent lunches - a picnic and a bakery visit - and generally smoothed the way, to allow us to enjoy the country to the maximum. Special thanks also due, as Ayyad was also very good at looking out for my son who has a sesame allergy, as sesame is used a lot in Jordanian food.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Late May is very hot, so make sure you drink enough water; starts are early (but then you can go to bed early too); ATMs are not as hard to find as expected; make sure you have good walking shoes - you will need them; Petra is a very large site - the Treasury is just the start - and has lots of steps to the Monastery and High Place of Sacrifice, so make sure you pace yourself.
