Iceland - Northern Lights

An excellent trip with great activities and a full schedule. From start to finish you hardly stop, that being said you see some amazing sights and really geta a feel for Iceland and its culture.

Most Inspirational Moment

The northern lights - they looked simply amazing!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader was great, he interacted with us and shared his knowledge and experaince in a proffesional manner. He had a great sense of humour which really helped make the trip experiance so great.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Pack lots of layers and good quality water proofs! Also a good pair of walking boots are a must for some of the locations!

Great Wall of China

An amazing 10 day trip that was full of inspirational moments – breathtaking scenery and a varied itinerary meant that the time flew by too quickly! The group size at 9 was ideal, meaning we all fitted around one table and were able to discuss the days proceedings! Really great set of people too.

Most Inspirational Moment

Climbing the first "Spider Wall" with no hesitation and being overwhelmed with the views!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our Group Leader Jerry was very organised and "full to the brim" with local knowledge and history! He was very passionate about China which came across in his group chats. He looked after the whole group ensuring we were all fed and "watered" to our satisfaction at all times, and constantly checking that we were drinking enough water etc

Advice for Potential Travellers

Make sure you work on your leg fitness before you go to get the full enjoyment out of the holiday, also worth the investment in decent walking boots! Take a camera with plenty of memory - you'll be taking loads of pictures.

If you care about conservation this trip will bring a smile to your face

Costa Rica has clearly learned that conservation and habitat preservation bring benefits not only to wildlife and the environment but also to local populations and the national economy. The guides who support Costa Rica’s ecotourism industry are nothing short of inspirational; their training, level of knowledge, understanding of ecosystems and their enthusiasm to impart their knowledge bode well for our planet. Anyone who cares about the natural world and its well-being cannot fail to love this trip which will bring a smile to their face every single day.
The trip takes in just about all of the biomes of a country which can rightfully boast to be one of the most biodiverse in the world. To achieve this, it’s a busy trip which covers a lot of miles with stays at some very attractive lodges on both coasts and in the mountains. It also features some wonderful destinations which are
off the well worn tourist track. The September trip had some rain on most days, although never for long and although it was hot and humid a lot of the time, our air-conditioned coach with wifi and Carlos, a brilliant driver, made the travelling comfortable for us. We loved the trip and came home with memories (and photographs) to share and to last through many years.

Most Inspirational Moment

The two weeks had inspirational moments every single day so it is impossible to single out just one. Humpback whales feeding with their calves, nesting sea turtles now protected by law, quetzals breakfasting in avocado trees in the early morning light, a flock of scarlet macaws lunching in a beach almond tree, sloths sleeping in trees in the jungle or relaxing at the Sloth Sanctuary, monkeys swinging from tree to tree, a boa constrictor looking down at you (fortunately with a stretch of water between you), massive crocodiles (again at a safe distance), fascinating and brightly coloured birds, snakes, frogs, spiders, snorkelling on a coral reef, the prolific, incredible vegetation in the rain forest, reflections in the mangroves. They were all inspirational, as was the information from our eagle eyed guides which went with the sightings.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our Group Leader was extremely knowledgeable on biology, ecology, culture, national industry etc. etc. His enthusiastic commentary kept us very well informed and taught us a lot; his sense of humour kept us entertained; he looked after us all extremely well. Put simply, Johnny is a great Group Leader and guide!

Advice for Potential Travellers

This is an active trip which packs in a lot of experiences and covers a lot of ground, both physically and figuratively. The trip involves some very early starts, some long journeys, some longish walks in humid conditions and some boat journeys and beach landings which you will remember for all sorts of reasons. Make sure you pack waterproof materials to keep the camera and rucksack dry if you get caught in the rain and pack some extra plastic bags for when you have to pack damp items in your luggage!

Peruvian Adventure

A wonderfully varied trip through Southern Peru, I saw and did so much in the two weeks.
The itinerary gives you many new experiences, I enjoyed them all and feel really lucky to have visited such a great country.

This was my first time travelling solo and I was a bit anxious, that disappeared as soon as I met the group and I started having a great time straight away.

Peru was on my list of travel destinations because of Machu Picchu, I really had no idea how much more it has to offer and it is now one of my best trips.

Most Inspirational Moment

I adored Machu Picchu and my walk up to the Sun Gate, loved it so much that I chose to go back up the next morning to experience it one more time. I took photos from every possible angle, it is a wonderful place. The homestay on Lake Titicaca was very special, it was so lovely to be welcomed so warmly into someone's home and they can't do enough for you. Then the visit to the floating islands is so unique and fascinating. The boat trip to the Ballestas Islands is good, lots of wildlife and we had a surprise bonus of two whales making an appearance. I chose to do the optional desert dune buggy and that is so much fun and a really good way to laugh with others in the group so early on in the trip. It felt very special being at the Colca Canyon seeing the condors gliding, you have to be a little patient but when they appear it is just lovely. The flight over the Nazca lines is very good, you can't really see them any other way so for me this optional activity was a must. I did feel a bit queasy and was pleased I had taken an anti-sickness tablet beforehand.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Daniel was an amazing group leader, I couldn't have asked for better. A complete professional, who is very knowledgeable about his country and really listens and looks after you the whole time. He has a great work ethic but is really good fun too.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you want to withdraw cash look for a BCP, this was the only bank I found that didn't charge my credit card at the ATM. If you take Peruvian soles with you try to only get small denominations with 50 soles as the largest, a lot of places do not have much change but if you do have notes of 100 try to use them in restaurants. If you want to use US dollars they must be good as new or they will not be accepted. I took Jungle Formula as my insect repellent, it worked as I was only bitten on the areas I didn't spray. I didn't expect to be bitten through my clothes but the insects bit through my jeans a few times. Keep hold of your 1 sole coins you will need them for toilet stops. Keep well hydrated, I felt fine at high altitude with only blocked ears and a faster heart rate but never unwell. Bring a very good moisturiser, especially hand cream as my skin became very dry as Peru is a very dry country.

Discover Costa Rica

An outstanding trip that explores the full range of what Costa Rica has to offer, from the hustle and bustle of San Jose to the quiet stunning beauty of Piedras Blancas.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing the turtles make their way back to the sea after having laid their eggs.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Gustavo was amazing. His enthusiasm was sky high each and every day.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take a rain jacket in raining season!

Cycling in Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama

This was the best cycling trip I have done with Exodus. In fact, this is my fifth cycling trip with exodus. The organization and leadership of Roberto made all the difference in experiencing a wonderful trip. His team including Steve, Paulo, Luise and Rolando worked effectively and efficiently together and interacted very well with all the clients. Though they all worked extremely, they had fun with each other and with us. It was a privilege to be on the trip with them. This is caliber of staff Exodus needs to support and hire.

Most Inspirational Moment

I think for me was accomplishing the cycle on the Queen route in Costa Rica. It was the most difficult of all the routes and I managed at my age to be with the top portion of the cyclists. I also believe how Roberto and the other members of the team motivated all of us to keep going made a difference.

Thoughts on Group Leader

I think I have already indicated how Roberto functioned as the group leader. He brief us every evening about the next route and in the morning before we cycled he showed what we had already accomplished and then indicated what was the next route. He also warned about the difficulty of the specific route and the safety precautions we need to consider. He always made sure that everyone was alright, was willing to answer our questions and suggested places to eat, tours to take and where to obtain money.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Make sure you are fit to do this type of trip especially in dealing with the heat and humidity. The heat and humidity makes the cycling more difficult. I have cycled three times in India and the heat and humidity in Central America was worse that in India.

Walking up Mt. Toubkal.

Great to be able to walk to the highest mountain in North Africa and in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. No special skills or climbing gear was required for the trip. For this trip you needed to be reasonable fit and able to cope with moderate high altitude walking. The weather was kind to us, but there were numerous clouds around the top of the mountain meaning that our distant views were not clear. Close mountain ranges looked impressive. Lush green valleys contrasted with stark bare mountain tops. A walk well worth doing.

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching the top of Mt. Toubkal.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Group leader was very good. He had excellent local knowledge, knew the trip tracks and venue well.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This walk is not a stroll in the park. I would only recommend it for seasoned walkers who enjoy a reasonably hard walk in mountainous terrain.

What a Fabulous week!

The Almafi coast had always been on my bucket list and this trip covered all I needed.
Superb walks, great group, very knowledgeable helpful friendly guide all made for one of the most memorable holidays I have had!

Most Inspirational Moment

Standing on the top of Vesuvius and the surrounding areas it devistated

Thoughts on Group Leader

Paul.... Natural guide, very friendly, knew lots of anecdotal information on where we had been and going. Kept the group together and motivated. All round very nice chap :)

Advice for Potential Travellers

You don't need anything specialised light rucksack, water and some sunscreen, let Exodus do the rest

A lovely ride

This was a really lovely ride through contrasting scenery from the mountains, through several different cities to Venice. The riding was easy, mostly on lovely cycle paths with regular water fountains and cafes. There were only a few climbs, although some of the days were quite long, with headwinds. The food was good and the hotels variable, but always comfortable.

Most Inspirational Moment

Coming over the pass and getting a first view of Lake Garda was pretty breath-taking. Venice was very memorable too.

Thoughts on Group Leader

The group leader was great, on the go from organizing extra rides before breakfast to taking us out to dinner somewhere special in the evening. He controlled the traffic and the long snake of cyclists really well, and never lost any of us despite the best efforts of some of us! Always full of information and passion for his country.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take clothes for all weathers. We needed sun cream and a hat one day, then the next day got caught in an unforecast spell of freezing cold rain and got soaked, which led to me catching cold. Have proper waterproofs always on you. A couple of the days are quite long, and a headwind is common, but mostly the riding is easy and flat. There are about 6 big climbs over the whole ride, the first being as soon as you set off! If you are going to take a day off, make it day 5, which is very long with quite a lot of urban riding, although you will then miss Soave, which is beautiful. There is not much time to look around the cities, so it would be a good idea to allow an extra few days not just to see Venice, but also to take the train back up to Padua, Verona and Vicenza for a good look around.

Fantastic trip

This was a whistle stop tour of southern India with a great variety of scenery, some absolutely amazing food & fantastic accommodation. The cycling was straightforward & the Exodus tour guides were great. Can’t recommend it highly enough.

Most Inspirational Moment

I managed 30 of the 36 hairpins going up Ooty Hill before waiting for my partner who wasn't feeling well. Big achievement for me & one of my personal highlights.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Joseph (leader) & Shibu (driver) were a fantastic team & they gave us everything we needed & more besides on the trip. Unfortunately there were only 3 of us on my departure (because the other guests cancelled the day before) so Joseph & Shibu spent a lot of time with us, talking about India, their lives & ours. I cannot speak highly enough of them. They are absolutely lovely people & made the trip for us.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don't be nervous on the roads - they are insane & chaotic but you get used to the traffic & soon start understanding how they work. Confidence is the key! The cycling really isn't very challenging so don't worry about doing loads of training before you take the trip. Only Ooty is tough but that's optional & you can take your time if you do go for it. Jump in with both feet & enjoy the culture shock! Oh & eat as much food as you can manage, it is amazing.
