Most Inspirational Moment
Stepping into the bush without the protection of a vehicle, knowing that it was only the experienced armed guides between us and any angry hippos. Or was it the elephant just a few feet from the side of the vehicle, ears warning us that his patience was wearing thin? Or the lion cub that played with his father, while mother and siblings sauntered past our truck? Or the wild dogs, barely still for a second, and wondering if we'd have to witness a kill? Or the log that turned into a crocodile? Or, maybe, it was watching two of our group zip-lining across Graskop Gorge. So many amazing and inspiring moments - sorry, I can't pick just one.
Thoughts on Group Leader
Frank, I think, had stepped in at the last moment and did an excellent job. He was knowledgeable about the area, the wildlife and articulated it well, and made us feel very well looked after at all times, especially in the search for somewhere to hand in our postcards!
Advice for Potential Travellers
You will have more food that you can comfortably eat at Perry's Bridge so pace yourself because it's all delicious! There are lots of early mornings because that's when you get some amazing sunrises and the best sightings, so get to bed early. Look for birds as well as the Big Five, some are astonishing. Don't miss the bush walk. In October it was colder than I expected in South Africa generally; although we had some days around 30 degrees, it was often more like 20 or less and I wished I'd brought more than 1 fleece. Don't forget your hat, unless you want to buy one as a souvenir. Sun-cream and malaria tablets as standard. Have a good camera and binoculars - I took a separate camera but some phone results were just as good, just make sure you've set it to good quality. Oh yes, and don't be surprised if you end up bringing your postcards home with you.
