With a wild coastline, vast landscapes and teeming game parks, and the verdant Garden Route and wine regions, a South Africa holiday really has it all. Although it has a checkered past, these days South Africa is a rainbow nation, with many Bantu tribes of the Zulu, Xhosa, Shangane, Ndebele forming the majority in parliament. Their heritage and culture can be explored from Roe's Drift to Spion Kop, and Isandlwana to Ladysmith.

A trip to South Africa is perfect for wildlife enthusiasts, with Addo Elephant Park, Mkuzi Reserve and the huge Kruger National Park all in striking distance. And at Hermanus, wildlife enthusiasts can stand on the cliffs and watch passing whales (in season).

South Africa tours are for everyone. For walkers, the Drakensberg Mountains offer a choice of trails; the Western Cape offers beaches, lush winelands around Stellenbosch and Paarland – where it’s impossible not to stop for a glass or two – and the craggy cliffs at the Cape of Good Hope, forest and lagoons along the Garden Route. And then there’s the wonderful city of Cape Town, everlastingly watched over by flat-topped Table Mountain.
