Zebra's in Africa walking on the Serengeti, Tanzania

Serengeti National Park

Serengeti National Park Trips

For some of the year, the Serengeti National Park is home to the largest concentration of migrating plains game in the world. Estimates suggest that there are up to two million wildebeest, one million gazelle and 200,000 zebra, as well as large numbers of elephant and a wonderful selection of bird life. Lions are easily seen, and in large numbers – there are around 2000 within the park. The terrain varies from treeless plains to stretches of savannah dotted with flat-topped acacia trees. Granite rock outcrops, known as 'kopjes', blend with riverine bush and thick scrub in the area around the Seronera River.

The wildebeest breeding season is in January and February, then the move to the north and west of the Serengeti happens between April and June. From July to October the animals move further north to the Masai Mara in Kenya, before starting to return to the southern and central plains of the Serengeti in November. Exodus offers Serengeti National Park tours in both the northern and southern Serengeti – find out more below.
