Currency Advice

I was just wondering if anyone had any advice on what is best to do regarding currency for this trip.

Will I be ok changing a small amount of money into Kenyan Shillings before I go & then rely on my card to top things up?  Will there be any issue getting cash out in Tanzania when we cross the border?

I'd also like to take the hot air balloon ride, how can I go about paying for that, will my card be ok?

I'm not keen on carry a large amount of sterling around for the trip so just want to minimise the cash I am carrying.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi, I've not been to Kenya but have been to Tanzania for Kilimanjaro.

In Tanzania my advice would be to take American Dollars or as a second option Euros. I found Pound Sterling was not readily exchangable. There was an ATM at Kilimanjaro airport that I withdrew Shillings from but on that trip you don't get around towns enough for me to judge how widely available they are.

Ok thanks for the advice Garry

My concern with dollars is that there seems to be restrictions on what they accept.  Although the are so widely available I’m sure I can get what is needed from any bureau de change
