Ethiopian Airways

Myself and my wife are booked on the Classic safari in Tanzania on 11th October and we are really worried about the group flights with Ethiopian Airways. Exodus say they are safe but they only had six out of seven stars before this crash because they lost a plane with all passengers in 2010. I am not sure what crieria is used but 239 deaths in nine years doesn't leave me feeling secure.

Is anyone else concerned or are we being over reactive?

I am a retired airline pilot. The 737 Max is grounded worldwide at the moment. I think all Boeing pilots (especially Ethiopean ones) will be acutely aware of the risks of satb trim runaway and what to do about it. So I don't think that particular accident will repeat itself.

What their standards are generally I am afraid I can't say. I have flown as a passenger on Lion Air and various other third world airlines. Their record is not particularly good. But I don't let it worry me, because crashes are in fact extremely rare, if you look at the number of accidents per departure worldwide.
