South Africa Teenage Safari

Has anyone done this trip and got any tips?

Is anyone booked in for the trip departing on July 25th?

We're booked on the July 26th teenage safari. We're a family of four with two teens - ages 15 (girl) and 17 (boy). We're from California in the U.S. My husband and I did a safari in Botswana and Zimbabwe 18 years ago and are really excited to take our kids on one. Our family loves to travel and can't wait for the trip. See you in July!

Thank you for replying. I think there are a couple of trips departing on July 26th, so hopefully we will be on the same one. Our son is also aged 17 so that would be good. We are from the West Country in the UK. We have travelled quite wide and far, but have not done a safari. Let us know if you have any tips!

I checked and it looks like we're in the same group as she said she only sees one group going and there is a family of 3 along with us so that will be great to have boys the same age. As far as tips, it's been awhile but what comes to mind is good mosquito spray with Deet. We didn't have a big problem with the mosquitos when we went before because it was winter like this trip and not too hot (we went in August) but you never know. Pack light as there is a lot of moving from place to place. Bring clothes that you can layer. Sometimes it could be cool in the morning and warm up later in the day. Bring a good camera with a lot of memory for pictures. You're going to get amazing pictures. We camped last time like on this trip and it was great. You might also want to bring a small plastic container with a lid in case you need to use the bathroom at night so you don't have to leave your tent. I always felt safe, but they didn't recommend getting out of your tent at night, but sometimes you just have to go...
We're looking forward to meeting you. My name is Jennifer by the way and my husband is Gary.

Great tips - thank you. We're hoping it doesn't get too cold at night when camping! Taking malaria tablets has been recommended for some areas of the trip as well as having the spray. As you say, hopefully not too major a problem with mosquitoes in their winter months when it is drier. We are also considering how much currency to change but the Exodus adviser said that for many of the extras there are no problems with using credit cards. Packing light may be easier said than done! What time do you arrive in Johannesburg?
See you soon.
