Canoeing on the Zambezi River

Zambezi River

Zambezi River Trips

The Zambezi River is Africa’s fourth largest river, running for a length of 2700km through six countries. Although it is unique in that it is barely developed, on its journey from central Africa to the Indian Ocean, it supports millions of people and vast populations of wildlife. It serves as the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, thundering over Victoria Falls and through the narrow Batoka Gorge.

This is one of the most exhilarating places in the world to try white-water rafting and, on its more gentle stretches, is a great place to get up close to animals on a canoe safari during one of our Zambezi River tours. Large pods of hippo vie with shy crocs along the banks and herds of elephant come to the water to drink and browse the vegetation. Carmine bee-eaters nest in sandy patches of riverbank and Goliath heron fish in the shallows. There are excellent chances of predator sightings, as well as over 500 species of bird to spot.
