About Exodus

Which? Recommended Provider It is all about Exploration. That is what Exodus was founded upon and is what the company is still all about. Exploring countries, cultures, environments, cities, mountain ranges, deserts, coasts and jungles; exploring this amazing planet we all live on. And at Exodus we pride ourselves in finding the very best way to explore. If it means walking we will do it and we will make sure we do it well and in the very best mountain environments. Is there a better way to really experience a country than cycling through the backroads, villages and towns? Or the Polar regions? Small expedition ships can get you where big cruise liners can’t. The winter environment? Why just ski when you can also dog sled, snow shoe walk, build an igloo (and sleep in it!) or experience the northern lights. Wildlife? Far better in small unobtrusive groups with expert guides, and to really understand the local culture get off the beaten track with a local to guide who can share their knowledge with you. There really is a whole world of great experiences out there and we can now offer many of these experiences to families and school groups.

Do we also care about the communities and environments we go to visit? Exodus has always been and will always be a responsible tour operator. It is in our DNA to work hard to look after what we so prize. We work closely with all our overseas partners to run our tours in the best possible Peter Burrell, Managing Directorways, we train our leaders, we actively seek out specific projects so that we can make a real practical difference on the ground. But please do not just take our word for it. We have won several awards and we ask you, our clients, to check what we do on the ground so that we can make improvements where needed.

Why do we do all this? Quite simply we love the places we go and we love sharing those great experiences with like minded people.

Over 35 Years

Exodus: Over 35 yearsAt Exodus, we know what makes us tick when it comes to holidays. It’s a desire shared by so many others. A yearning to visit new places and come home with a real sense of what they’re all about. This means delving into local traditions, cultures, cuisine, lifestyles – anything that contributes to its unique identity. At the same time, we always remember that we are only guests. So we travel courteously and respectfully, in smaller groups to minimise our impact, to ensure that every Exodus holiday is a beneficial experience for everyone involved.

This is a philosophy we take with us around the world, helping you reach some incredible destinations on 500 itineraries across over 90 separate countries. We also strive to provide as much flexibility and choice as we possibly can, making it simple for you to experience a very different holiday.

See our history page for more details about us.

Know How

Exodus Leaders and Porters, Tanzania All our office staff have a passion for travel and adventure, and between us we’ve notched up experience that spans 171 different countries. That’s not all. In their former lives, our team members have been professional archaeologists, wildlife guides, overland drivers, mountain leaders, diving and ski specialists and mountain bike gurus – so no-one is better placed to create tours that appeal to a wide range of specialist interests.

Their care in putting all the details in place really shines through too. Extensive planning, research, fact-finding and training are a sign of our commitment to providing a holiday where your enjoyment, value for money and safety come first. It’s a telling reason why we remain one of the leading worldwide adventure tour companies. It is no exaggeration to say that our tour leaders can make a world of difference to the enjoyment of your holiday – so we choose them carefully. The result is that, in 2006, 95% of our clients stated that their leader exceeded their expectations. Where possible, we train and employ local leaders because they can provide invaluable insights that enrich the trip. What’s more, this investment in local staff really helps us benefit both them and their community.

Our Commitment

Clients relaxing on the dunes of Namibia

  • Quality - We don’t aim to be the most luxurious or the cheapest, but we do aim to give the best value. We don’t cut corners and we pay our overseas partners a fair rate for their services.
  • Satisfaction - We rely very heavily on word of mouth and repeat custom for our bookings, consequently it is imperative that we give our clients the best holidays possible. We believe that over 30 years of operation and a more extensive programme than anyone else in our corner of the travel industry illustrates our success.
  • Feedback - At the end of every trip, we provide our clients with a questionnaire that we urge you to fill in. We rely very heavily on our clients’ feedback to maintain and improve the quality of our holidays.
  • Accuracy - We do our utmost to make sure that the information provided in our brochures and on our website is accurate. However things can and do change due to circumstances beyond our control and also please remember, no one is perfect.

Responsible Tourism

Solar cookers Tourism is one of the most important and largest industries on the planet. It employs more people worldwide than any other, with millions of families relying on tourism for their daily needs. Of course there are negatives attached.

The last few decades have been dotted with disaster stories where tourism has resulted in over-development, destruction of environments and in cultural misunderstandings and mistrust. It has also recently been embroiled in the debate about global warming and carbon emissions caused by flying. At Exodus we believe that our type of small group, positive impact tourism can bring benefits to many communities, help preserve the environments we travel to see, and provide real and positive social exchanges.
