More recently, in March 1992 BiH became an independent nation, an act that led to war between the Bosnian Croats and Moslems (who wanted independence) and the Serbs (who didn't). Three years of war, including some dreadful atrocities, ravaged the country. In 1995 a peace agreement was signed, and although times were still difficult, the long rehabilitation process began. Now 10 years on BiH has stable leadership and an economy that tourism is helping to rebuild.
