Coats and Photos
Hi
Ive done the trip on the vavilov to Falklands, South Georgia and Antarctica and i got my Quark Parka when i boarded the boat in Ushuaia. Phone Exodus to confirm, if i hadnt recieved one then i would of used a waterproof and down jacket which i already own and use on the Arctic. I dont believe you can hire one so a call to exodus would resolve this..
As for lens. i took a wide angle 17-85 f4-f5.6 and a 70-300 f4-f5.6 nothing expensive. Some people took 100-400 but i have full frame images with the 300 as the wildlife will get that close.. You can see some of my images either on my facebook page (search i to Image Photography) or from my website www.itoimagephotography.co.uk.. I wouldnt suggest a taking a prime but thats personal choice..
Hope that helps..
Matt
Many thanks for responding Matt. Exodus have been in touch and apparently I can hire wind/water proof gear on board and they have sent me some forms.
Thanks for the lens info. I was thinking of taking an 18-300 which should suffice by the sound of it. You've taken some great shots and haven't you been around!!!!! Very impressed.

Hi,
Is anyone else going on or have experience of this trip?
I notice some boats provide parkas for the duration of the trip but the Vavilov only seems to provide wellies. Does anyone know if you can hire parkas in Ushuaia? I don't want to be buying/travelling in a big coat which I may never wear again.
Also - any advice re photos - is a long lens needed i.e. longer than say 300mm?
Regards
Gerry
