As a cycling fan you will have no doubt enthusiastically followed the Tour de France on television, but actually watching it live is incredible! Millions of fans line the route as the peloton races through France on its annual three week tour around this spectacular country. The holiday atmosphere helps to make the whole experience almost as enjoyable as the cycling itself and 2013 is set to be a special celebration as it is the 100th edition of the race.
This year the town of Gap, capital of the Hautes Alpes region, will host both a stage finish and a start stage of the Tour. Sandwiched between these days is a hilly time trial course around the scenic Serre Poncon lake. Our base in picturesque La Breole gives the opportunity to watch the action live on the roadside on all three days, ride the actual time trial course, and to attempt the best local Tour de France climbs.
Riding the challenging cols of the Alps can be a humbling experience and only afirms the impressive strength and stamina of the professionals.
Will Bradley Wiggins be able to repeat his incredible yellow jersey winning performance? Book early to find out as this special trip sells out very quickly every year.
