Hi. I'm off on the Inca trail next week and can't get my get around the kitbag situation!! Do I take 2 bags and leave one in the hotel?.  I am planning on taking the green exodus kitbag on the trek but how safe is the other one we leave in the hotel and do we have to pay?

Thanks

Hi Victoria, the same thoughts have crossed my mind. Do I bring my eye pad - not much use on the trek but how safe would it be in the hotel in Cusco? We'll probably take a suitcase as well as the green bag.
We'll speak to Xanthe and find out about security.
Not long now!

Hi Mick! Yes sooo excited now. I have put the green bag inside a bigger one. I presume the hotel will have a safe so you could put your Ipad there? If you find out how secure it is- can you let me know?

Hi Guys,

We did the Inca Trail in May and left the bulk of our stuff at the hotel, as did most of our group as the 7KG allowance for the trail really doesn't leave you with much - we were also going on to the Galapgaos so had quite a bit of kit to suit the two different tours.  It was all perfectly safe, although for extra security we did leave ours in a lockable suitcase so that might be an idea if you want peace of mind.

Not at all jealous :)  Enjoy!

Hi
I am doing the Inca Trail in October 2014 and like other comments before mine, i am confused about the bag situation. Can someone please clarify? Do I take my suitcase to Cusco and presumably am given a kit bag for the trek only? Do I carry the kitbag on the trek or do the porters, in which case this will free my up to carry my own smaller back pack with food/drink/camera in it etc? Thank you. Dawn

I am doing the essential tour of Peru. Is it safe to use a day pack with outer pockets? I am concerned that suspicious packages could be placed in an outer pocket without my knowledge. Would welcome some advice!

I've just seen your post about day packs so thought I'd offer some advice. Personally I like a day pack with side pockets so that you can easily access your water bottle (and other items that you might want to have to hand) without having to remove your pack each time. I wouldn't concern yourself too much with people trying to slip items into the pockets. Just ensure any valuables are not in the outer pockets, or take some small combination padlocks if you like.

Dawn, in response to your post about bags on the Inca Trail... You will fly to Cuzco with your main luggage/suitcase. In Cuzco you will need to pack everything that you want to take on the Inca Trail into the kitbag/duffle bag provided (max weight 7kg on standard Inca Trail departures) - plus you will be able to take a daypack. The remainder of your luggage/main suitcase (not needed for the trek) is left in a storage room at the hotel in Cuzco. On trek your kitbag will be carried by porters. You need only carry your own day pack whilst trekking, with water, camera, layers, snacks etc in. I hope that helps a little. Your leader will also explain all about the luggage once you arrive. Have a great trip!
