Trinidad

Trinidad has been a Unesco World Heritage site since 1988 and is perhaps the best-preserved colonial town on the island. Exploring Trinidad is like stepping back in time; the cobbled streets and horse-drawn transportation whisking you back to another era. There are many interesting museums in colonial buildings and music drifts through the streets and plazas, bringing the town to life. A walking tour with a local resident is the best way to explore and will provide an insider perspective of what it’s like to live in Trinidad. 

Dancing is integral to Cuban culture and a salsa class will teach you the fundamentals of this partnered dance. Learning with a local Cuban dance partner is the best way to pick up the basic rhythm and steps. Once you’ve mastered some new skills, let your hips and feet do the talking – you can find plenty of locals to practise dancing with on the Cuban Highlights Ride.  

Trinidad is known for its nightlife! Once you’ve learnt some salsa basics, visit the Casa de la Trova, a legendary live music venue where local musicians play authentic Cuban music. This venue is always lively and sociable. Casa de la Trova offers a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the distinct rhythms of Cuban music. 

For an authentic Cuban experience, on our Taste of Cuba holiday we introduce you to a Cuban barman who is an expert at making the perfect mojito! This traditional Cuban punch is a blended muddle of rum, sugar, lime juice and mint mixed with soda water. Trinidad really comes alive as the sun sets, when the bars and paladares kick into action. Visit a paladar for a cocktail-making lesson, where everyone can have a go at mixing their own authentic Cuban mojito.
