Vietnam Adventure - 4th Oct

Hi,

Pencilled in a trip to Vietnam next October.  Will check back from time to time to chat with anyone else likely to go on the same trip.  Might do the Angkor Wat extenstion - will decide later.

Hi Paul,

I am also considering booking onto this trip, I'm not sure between this or the Thai Indochina Explorer trip. They both sound great! I think I need to make a decision ... :)

Hi all,

After much faffing about on my behalf I've taken the plunge & booked this trip.  My first time to Vietnam & first time travelling in a group.

Would be great to hear from anyone else considering this trip before we leave.

Pete

Hi everyone, I've also taken the plunge and decided to join this trip. I've travelled with Exodus on a few trips before but this this will be my first trip to Asia. Vietnam sounds so exciting, luckily only a few months to wait now.

Eleanor

Vietnam is getting closer :-)

Will sort out the visa this week - has anyone got their visa by going direct to the embassy? The Travcour charge of £103 (inc. postage) seems a bit steep considering I could post it direct to the embassy and get the same for £62 (inc postage).

I am making my own way to Vietnam (via a side trip to Hong Kong) so wont be on the group flight.

See you all in Hanoi on 4th October !

Paul

Hi everyone

I've been looking into the visa this week as well. I'm going to deal with the embassy direct. The website is pretty clear, the application form straight forward and if the speed they replied to my email about fees is anything to go by then I'll think it will be quite a prompt service - fingers crossed anyhow!!

I ended up using the Vietnam embassy as ecuthill suggested. I can confirm the process is very simple and I got my passport processed and back inside a week.

My advice - skip Travcour on this occasion and go direct - save yourself £40.

Like Paul, I've used the embassy direct. I sent it on the Monday, had it back the following Tuesday. Very straightforward process. Now to check my jabs are up to date...

Hello everyone in this group. Just posting to introduce myself, Mike Broadhead, and wife Amanda and to say we are looking forward to meeting you all. We've never been to Vietnam or done an Exodus holiday before so if there are any seasoned Far East travellers your tips would be appreciated. See you soon.
Mike

Hi Mike & Amanda, good to find out another couple of names. Starting to organise myself now, not too long to go. This will be my 4th exodus trip and as I keep coming back they must be doing something right! I've really enjoyed my previous exodus trips and I haven't done Asia before so should be a new adventure.

Is anyone taking a cycle helmet? I know it advises to in the trip notes, as there's none to hire, but in reality it takes up a bit of room in the bag for a half day cycle on what is described as relatively even ground.

I was also wondering what to do about the cycle helmet..... takes up far too much room (in an already squashed suitcase).

I am thinking of leaving it behind - after all as you said its only a short ride on even terrain - I'll ask Exodus what type of roads we will be cycling on. If its busy / potholed roads I think I will have to find room for it !

Another option is I might tie it to my hand luggage and carry it that way. Still to decide.

Hiya

Travelling on my own for the first time to Vietnam and getting pretty excited. Look forward to meeting you all

Jo
PS I don't even own a cycle helmet and haven't been on a bike for years (should be fun!)

There was me thinking a quick side trip to HK before the Exodus trip would be a great idea......

With departure to HK imminent all I see on the news is the mass protests taking place by the "Occupy Central" group...... and in which district did I book my hotel for..... yep..... Central :-)

Still - If I make it to Hanoi on 4th Oct I should have some interesting anecdotes to share.

Wish me luck..... I may need it.
