Let's Do It! Mixed Activity Family Adventures

Why limit the fun to just one thing, when you can ride, surf, canyon and kayak your way through one of our brilliant mixed activity family adventures?

Portugal: Best for Surf

“We always look to do things that are exciting on holiday, and the chance to try surfing along Portugal’s stunning Atlantic coast was too good to miss,” says Gina Eckersley of her recent mixed activity adventure with her partner Chris and his 13 year old son Ed.

Our Portugal Family Adventure ticked all their boxes - kayaking, abseiling and mountain biking and that delicious Portuguese seafood - but it was all about the surf in the end.

“The waves were big, but not intimidating, and yes, we managed to stand up!” Gina laughs. With a morning’s taster, Gina and family learned the essentials on shore: “how to paddle your board, how to choose when to catch the wave, then it’s out into the water.” With a gentle push when the right wave came along, Ed was paddling along the breaking wave.

“He was standing up within a few minutes,” Gina says. “This holiday was instrumental in helping Ed realise that water was a fun place to be, and that clams are delicious!"

Dordogne: Best for Kayaking

Winding through much of south-west France, the Dordogne offers watersports lovers 500km of playground. Our active itinerary taps into a quieter section of the legendary river, allowing you and your family to paddle in the shadow of picturesque castles that dot the cliff tops along the river’s edge as you learn the basics of steering your canoe.

“The canoeing is perfect for children, as the water is slow moving, the canoes can take two adults and two young children,” Senior Product Manager Chloe Knott says.

“Canoeing down both the Vezere and Dordogne rivers was truly magical,” says Exodus customer Maria Bowers, “The water was warm enough and in parts shallow enough to pull up and let my children swim. And the spectacular scenery took my mind off any arm ache!”

And after all that adrenalin? There’s a wonderfully reviving surprise in store: “There’s the opportunity to relax and unwind in the Bukowina Thermal pools, with slides and jacuzzis. It’s bliss after all your exertion!”

And with expert instruction, your family will be bouldering, climbing and belaying like a pro in no time! After which, a rewarding swim in the Ardèche river is all the sweeter.
