Walking the Great Wall

Generally excellent. The surroundings are in themselves inspirational and Exodus promises were usually delivered. Accommodation generally of a higher standard than we had been led to expect.

Most Inspirational Moment

Standing on the Wall for the first time and seeing it snaking away over the hills.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our leader on the Wall section, Kevin, was absolutely outstanding: intelligent, patient, pleasant, conscientious, approachable and a mine of interesting information on every aspect of the Wall and its history/culture. Jane (Xiam), while still competent, occasionally seemed to be quoting from a script.

Advice for Potential Travellers

From the Exodus blurb, I was under the impression I needed to take a sheet sleeping bag andmy own supply of toilet paper. In the event, both proved to be unnecessary.

Reply from Exodus

We would like to thank David for his review. We were sorry that Fiona was unable to make this trip due to health reasons and we have followed up internally on David’s concerns.

Cycle Kerala and Tropical India

Cycling is the perfect way to experience the colours, sights, sounds, and smells of this beautiful part of India. Wonderful variety of cycling, scenery, wild life, culture and people. Fabulous food, great company and something new every day.

Most Inspirational Moment

The variety was probably the best bit, so many different experiences. Cycling past wild elephants, the hillclimb to Ooty and the hair raising descent next day, interacting with the children on the roads, overnighting on the Houseboat, the wildlife, and the colours.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Safi was fantastic, enthusiastic, fun, very personable, nothing was too much trouble, very quickly identified our individual preferences and catered to them where possible. It was the best teamwork I have ever seen between Safi, Joseph and Shibu with each one of them doing their bit and supporting each other and all the group at every opportunity. Happy guides, happy group. The seamless organisation we enjoyed concealed a lot of hard work behind the scenes and I felt safe and free to enjoy myself.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go for it. I was a little nervous about India but am so glad now I did the trip. Bring hand gel and wipes for hygiene, eat where the guide recommends and drink bottled water and enjoy the trip. A torch is useful on occasion and perhaps a small umbrella if there in the Rainy season. Practice some hillclimbs for Ooty, but it is only one day in the trip so don't worry too much if it is not for you.

Cilento and Amalfi Coast

Good weather, good company, good food, good cycling, good views.

Most Inspirational Moment

The hilltop village of Ravello

Thoughts on Group Leader

Good but a little bit too cautious for some of the experienced cyclists

Advice for Potential Travellers

A lot of the hills proved quite challenging and most people thought the Moderate grading by Exodus was a bit ambitious.

Walking in the Picos

All in all a great trip on a challenging week with a couple of quite long days and good climbs .

Most Inspirational Moment

No magic moment it was just a great trip with nice people staying in a nice hotel run by extremely helpful owners for whom nothing was too much trouble .

Thoughts on Group Leader

I work in the outdoor industry and he is someone I would be very happy to work with . His knowledge of the flora and fauna routes and mountain summits was excellent. He also gave us an insight into the life , culture and economies and politics of Spain particularly the North . He has what money cannot buy -PASSION.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I looked at a number of weather forecast before leaving for a number of weeks before our departure date. They all said rain in parts throughout the day and they were ALL WRONG . We got wet once and the rest of the time it was brilliant sunshine ! The weather in the Picos is very localised and you need to be prepared for it .

Treasures of Sicily

A comprehensive tour around the island taking in all the main sites. There is a lot to see.

Most Inspirational Moment

For me it was walking into the cathedral at Monreale and seeing the Norman mosaics.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Fabio was excellent. Relaxed, helpful and informative. Also the driver Luca was outstanding: Patient, careful and skilled. Driving in Sicilian towns is not for the faint hearted.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Sicilian restaurants are a little chaotic. Be patient, the food is worth the wait. Also do visit the museum Mandralisca in Cefelu. It's worth it to see the "portrait of a man" by Antonello da Messina, (I have heard it called "the male Mona Lisa") and the Greek vase with a scene of "the tuna cutters".

Highlights of the Dolomites

Beautiful jagged mountains. Great guides. Good companions. Excellent weather.

Most Inspirational Moment

The ridge walk on the last day with a powdering of snow

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just do it

High Inca Trail

A stand out experience, expertly guided, full of adventure amongst stunning scenery. Great food, camaraderie and fun.

Most Inspirational Moment

Being at the mercy of the Andean mountain weather, we experienced some unexpected twists and turns to the originally planned trip. I was inspired by the calm and seamless way our guide, Wilfredo steered us through these adversities and how the group came together in support of each other when needed. The scenery was awesome and the bird life, including seeing a Condor were memories I will treasure.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Wilfredo has excellent knowledge of the history and culture of the Andean people, he was professional, calm and well organised, whilst being fun, personable and totally committed to our care and enjoyment. I feel he gained 16 new friends who admire and respect him.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Hot in the day... VERY cold at night, train well beforehand, particularly on steep hills.

6th Sep' 14 - MWD - Dolomites, Lake Garda & Venice Ride

Fantastic trip, fantastic scenery, fantastic food, fantastic company, fantastic guide – I guess that means I may have enjoyed this trip

Most Inspirational Moment

The beauty of the Dolomites, and after two previous visits to Venice where I have described Venice, in my opinion to be overrated, most definitely Venice. I loved Vicenza nearly as much as Michele, definately the most beautiful town in the world

Thoughts on Group Leader

Michele was an absolute star, probably the most knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and likeable guide I have had on any previous trip.

Advice for Potential Travellers

As with all trips, read the trip notes to know what to expect. This level of cycle trip is not too much for the occasional cyclist, it's not a race, it's a chance to enjoy with like minded people.

Wonderful! Amazing!! Magical!!!

This was a fabulous holiday! I have travelled quite a lot with Exodus and always had great trips – this was one of the best.

Most Inspirational Moment

The programme was very well structured with plenty of variety and highlights throughout the tour: mokoro rides and game walks in the Okavango Delta, surreal salt pans, exciting Victoria Falls with so many activities to choose, fantastic game in Chobe (the sunset river cruise is an absolute must) and yet more game in Savuti and Moremi with contrasting landscapes. I loved the wild camping: sitting round a campfire, eating and chatting with new friends and watching wildlife stroll by - pure magic!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our crew was fantastic: Sam, our leader, is a lovely man and kept us organised and informed; Stanley, our guide and driver though the national reserves, shared his amazing knowledge; Mello and Paul ran clean and happy camps wherever we stayed and cooked delicious suppers; Mello's campfire-baked bread was simply delicious!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Botswana is a desert - be prepared for a lot of dust. Pack baby wipes, moisturing cream and lipsalve. My most treasured possession was a long chiffon scarf that I could wrap round my head and face. Be prepared to get very grubby. You need to wear safari-coloured clothes but everything ends up dust coloured. Pack a travel plug for washing laundry at the public campsites. Pack spare batteries and cards for your camera, then pack some more! There are few opportunities to recharge, the inverter in the truck was very slow and a long queue wanting to use it. My camera charges with a USB cable and I was able to use an adaptor in the cigarette lighter. Some of the drives are very long on poor roads. It's not for everyone, but I found there was always something to look at and I loved it.

Atlas Panorama

Everything on this holiday was as described in the itinerary, from pick up to drop off. The only surprises surpassed my expectations.

Most Inspirational Moment

The most heart warming time was giggling with the two Moroccan women in the Hamman, whilst being scrubbed from head to foot. My skin still feels amazing and it was really good to have contact with local women and feel as though I was contributing to the the community, in a very small way. Of course the views and the walks, even in the heat, were amazing and exceptionally well paced by our expert guide, Hassan, who was always full of good humour, imparting local knowledge and answering our many questions.

Thoughts on Group Leader

As above.. Hassan looked after everyone, ensuring that we all had a great time, an honourable person.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Check the temperatures carefully, before booking! Just as in France, vegetarian, let alone vegan cuisine is somewhat underdeveloped....take protein bars !!
