Walking in Tuscanny

Excellent Walks, Excellent Accommodation and Excellent Leader

Most Inspirational Moment

The ascent of Montesombre & stunning views all the way to the sea-? 50Km away

Thoughts on Group Leader

She was quite wonderful and really took the trouble to get the best experience for us - checking the weather by getting up early and driving to vantage points to see what the weather was really like before setting off & adapting walks as necessary.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Do this one, don't be nervous - we had stunning views & did some scrambling - all done safely through good planning & excellent leader

Highlights of the Dolomites

You really have to go on this trip! The scenery is amazing with a mixture of dramatic mountains and green hills. Lovely family run hotel with very high class rooms and food. Great leaders (Emily and Eric) who are very experienced and helpful and really want you to have a great holiday.

Most Inspirational Moment

The Dolomites scenery is stunning with mountains with spiky peaks - very unusual. Very green parts too.

Thoughts on Group Leader

The leaders (Eric and Emily) gave me great confidence and both of them treated you as an individual, and really wanted you to have the best holiday ever! Both were very kind.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take good boots, poles and some warm clothes.

Essential Peru

This trip covers a huge amount in a short space of time. The scenery through the Andes is breathtaking and other highlights included Cusco, Macchu Picchu and the homestay on Amantani Island-basic but adequate. There were a significant number of early starts and long bus journeys. Some of the toilets were undesirable and it was difficult to obtain lunch-best to organise a packed lunch before leaving. I would recommend about $1000 American for meals and daily expenses. At times the tour guide gave insufficient information. On the whole a truly unique and memorable experience.

Most Inspirational Moment

Visiting Macchu Picchu and Amantani Island.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Brilliant in Nasca, but failed to bring the group together. Had a tendency to speak to a few of us and could have been more informative during the long bus rides. Occasionally put his interests first.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for early starts and long bus rides. Bring clothes that can be layered as there is a wide range of temperatures. Snacks and your own toilet roll are very handy.

Bavaria at its best.

A spectacularly picturesque area with soaring mountains, lush green valleys, forests, lakes and pretty villages.

Most Inspirational Moment

Sitting outdoors on top of the Zugspitze (ca. 9000 ft.) enjoying the stunning views and eating Apfelstrudel and drinking Löwenbräu on a gorgeous September afternoon!

Thoughts on Group Leader

N/A: self guided.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I would advise decent walking boots, and poles if you use them, and waterproof jacket and trousers as it can certainly rain here. Take insect repellant and bite cream too. The area is photogenic so a good camera with plenty of memory is a must. I forgot mine!!! Make sure you have the extensive trip notes as the walks can be quite complicated. Due to an oversight we didn`t receive ours and would have been at a loss, but another member of the group who we became friendly with shared hers. This issue has been resolved with Exodus and we still had a wonderful time. The paths are well signposted anyway and, as mentioned in another review, the recommended routes can be customised to suit your own tastes.

Reply from Exodus

We would like to thank Jacqueline for her review. We were very sorry to learn that her holiday was affected by the film currently being shot in the area surrounding her hotel and we have responded to her directly on the matter.

Dubrovnik and the Dalmation coast

A relaxing and varied week with beautiful scenery and old towns to explore.

Most Inspirational Moment

I particularly enjoyed the day walk on Korcula and visiting the old town of Dubrovnik.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Dalibor was excellent. He understood the group very well and made sure everyone was looked after. He was calm and very well organised.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take good walking shoes for the two day walks as the ground can be very rocky. This is a relaxing trip for those used to third world destinations in that the toilets are nice, the water is safe, people speak English and you can relax!

Cycling in Sicily

This was one of my best Exodus Holidays. This was my first cycling one with Exodus and I can highly recommend this trip.

Most Inspirational Moment

The cycling was fantastic. Not too difficult climbs although you had to be quite fit. The acommodation and food was excellent.

Thoughts on Group Leader

We had three leaders to which everyone was fantastic in looking after us. They made sure the bikes were safe and were very attentive to all the group. Also gave a lot of history about the Island.

Walks of Portofino and Cinque Terre

Relaxed unhurried walking in stunning coastal scenery

Most Inspirational Moment

walking among beautifully situated vineyards perched on steep slopes down to the sea. Very unusual

Thoughts on Group Leader

Very informative mature and well organised. A very well rounded guide with a wealth of experience

Advice for Potential Travellers

Although easy walking on good paths it is still important to have adequate walking footwear.

Wonderful Sardinia

This was my second cycling trip with Exodus and the best so far. Great company with a diverse group of all ages, wonderful weather and relaxing accommodation. The lunchtime visits to beaches, lazy lunches to chat with your fellow travellers and a blow out carb fest with local wine in the evening meant smiles all round.
The cycling and scenery was pretty good too 🙂 a non-stop photo opportunity through a quite unspoilt area of Sardinia with bright blue skies and crystal clear waters.

Most Inspirational Moment

Watermelon elevenses and cake for breakfast. And flamingos (or fenicottero as Giovanni kept saying :-) )

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our guides Giovanni and Alessandro were both terrific leaders and very good company too, funny and engaging they felt like old friends. Always willing to answer questions, make sure we were all together and generally make our trip as smooth and trouble free as possible. As well as providing refreshing fruit stops and tasty picnic lunches they made sure all the equipment was in order and organised meals and baggage transfers without a hitch.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Although this trip is classed as moderate (level 3) a couple of the climbs were long and quite tiring especially in 30+ degrees! So, do make sure you've got some training under your belt and ticked off a few hills at home to make sure you're up to it. But, failing that the support bus was always there to give water to the parched and to scoop up the weary.

Walking the Great Wall

Extremely enjoyable and highly recommended trip to see the less touristic parts of the Great Wall. Experience rural China, cuisine and culture. Peaceful, beautiful, lightly challenging and memorable.

Most Inspirational Moment

Fire water night.... Really though; sitting on top of a tower on the Crouching Tiger section and each member of the group suddenly fell into quiet contemplation just taking in the view and enjoying the peace and serentity of it all. Secondly, realising my own potential along the way.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Wu Wei (JERRY). Our glorious leader. Worth every Yuan for comedic value alone. Sharp, witty, articulate, polite, accomodating, motivated, energetic, thoughful, informative, caring and responsible. I expect any future tours to be a disappointment if not led by Jerry. Completely surpassed my expectations of a tour guide. I personally felt he integrated with the group and made us feel like welcome friends instead of walking pay packets-an experience I had never had before with a tour guide. Issues were raised by a few members of the group throughout the trip and Jerry instantly took action to rectify any situation in an attempt to please everybody. He had the difficult task of dealing with a group of people of very different abilities and expectations with fifty years between the youngest and eldest of us. Some of us wanted lengthier, tougher, faster days and others needed a slower pace, less challenging terrain and shorter days. Somehow Jerry managed to keep us all together and return us safely to Beijing City on the final day.

Advice for Potential Travellers

PLEASE READ the itinerary BEFORE you book the trip! It clearly states that this trek is MODERATE to CHALLENGING. On reading the online brochure myself, I thought the trip would be a struggle for me-relatively fit and in my late twenties. It turned out not to be a struggle for me at all, in fact I felt that I was in my element. Unfortunately this was not the case for all involved. Whilst attempting not to be ageist (there are people in their 70's out there much fitter than I!) the trip was less enjoyable for those in their 50's 60's and 70's, depending on their current physical health. It seemed that some members of the group were expecting an easy walk rather than a moderate to challenging trek. This was difficult for everyone and those who wanted a slower pace felt they had to struggle to keep up and those who wanted a faster pace felt slowed down or held back from challenging themselves so that everyone could be kept together. I can't say much about the reasoning behind different folks perceptions of 'moderate to challenging' but I can say Please Please READ the brochure! The trek takes you through some of the more remote parts of the wall (which would be deemed impassable in the UK-that should give an idea) Off wall trekking includes some muddy or scrambly parts through the bush which while immense fun for some, was not so much so for others! The brochure does say there are parts where you will need to use hands as well as feet and lets say the trip basically does what it says on the tin.
