VIETNAM ADVENTURE

This is an amazing trip from the North to the South of Vietnam. You manage to visit Cities, sail in Halong Bay, travel by overnight train and get to experience some wonderful countryside. It’s hectic but there is time to rest and relax and enjoy the amazing sights. A fantastic trip.

Most Inspirational Moment

Too many to single out one thing. The night on Halong Bay was lovely. Hoi An is an amazing place with its lovely buildings and river. Sailing through the Mekong delta canals being rowed by a little old lady. The peace and quiet of the homestay. Cycling in Hoi An was great. Too windy to go to the beach, but we had a fantastic cycle through the countryside, rice fields and seeing where all the local vegetables were grown. Followed by a barbeque on a quiet river bank - bliss.Cocktails on the 50th floor of the building with the helipad in Saigon.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Thuy was great. He really looked after us and took us to many lovely restaurants. We were very fussy eaters which I think proved a bit of a challenge at first but Thuy managed to make sure we were well catered for. Very knowledgeable and kind - a great representative for Exodus.

Advice for Potential Travellers

As others have said laundry is cheap and easy to get done. So travel light as there are so many beautiful clothes to buy or get made out there.

FINNISH WILDERNESS WEEK

Fantastic week in an absolutely stunning landscape. A great mix of winter activities – definitely something for everyone!

Most Inspirational Moment

I enjoyed the whole range of activities we did throughout the week. Husky dog sledding was a personal favourite and snowshoeing and cross-country skiing across the frozen lake were magical. We were also lucky enough to see the northern lights- a tick for the bucket list! The hot tub and sauna were a welcome activity at the end of the day and sitting in the hot tub watching the sun set and the stars come out was a great way to end the day!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Teddy was a fantastic leader. He was skilled at all of the activities, made them all really fun (playing ultimate frizbee in snowshoes was a highlight!) and was very knowledgable about the local area. He was very patient in our repeated requests of "when can we see the northern lights?"! The other guides and staff at Basecamp were fantastic too.

Advice for Potential Travellers

A brilliant trip and opportunity to try a range of winter activities in a stunning landscape. Highly recommended!

HIGHLIGHTS OF MOROCCO

This was an amazing holiday! The group of people on the trip were really friendly and they made the holiday.

Most Inspirational Moment

The camel trip to the desert was great. An a capella version of Molly Malone on top of a sand dune waiting for the sun to set has to be one of my highlights! The walk up through the greenery to the night in the mountains was incredibly peaceful and I could have stayed there for longer. The architechture everywhere we went was fantastic, especially inside the mosque, and the coast was a good laidback ending to the trip.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Moustaffa was incredible, so welcoming and patient. I wasn't sure about a guided tour before I went on one, but the ability of Moustaffa to answer my endless questions was wonderful. It hadn't occurred to me before how nice it is to be able to ask all the things that pop into your head when you're travelling but can't really stop and ask random members of the public about (we learnt about everything from politics to marriage to cooking!). He was also indispensible in recommending places (and even things) to eat and drink. The local guides at each of the stops were also fantastic. Their english was superb and it was nice to have at least one female guide so we got a different view of Moroccan life.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Would advise that you take one of the sealable bags you can get for taking cameras underwater so that you do not get sand in the mechanism in the desert. Also, be aware that there is no where to change Dirham back to pounds/euros at the airport so would advise changing any Dirham you have left before you leave the city.

MOUNTAINS & VILLAGES OF EVIA

A holiday that ticked all the boxes for me.  Some wonderful scenery which came alive through the enthusiasm of our guide.

Most Inspirational Moment

Not sure inspirational is the right word but the highlights were: The panoramic views atop Mount OchiThe springtime flowers and the heady scent of Orange blossom - April is a fantastic time to travelA different Taverna each evening so a real range of cuisine and all so local and fresh

Thoughts on Group Leader

Thanos is outstanding as a group leader.  I know he has led this trip many, many times before but his enthusiasm for the island, its history and people is infectious and undiminished.  He delights in recounting tales of the mythology asociated with the island, interspersed with more modern accounts of the tragedies of the German occupation.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Athens on the free day is well worth the journey especially if, like me, you haven't visited beforeSpringtime is beautiful on the island with perfect temperatures for walkingUse the supermarket for presents - much cheaper than the boutiques around the squareAsk for a seaview - there's always something going on to watchA bit of prior reading about the Greek Gods will help you appreciate Thanos' renditions

MARRAKECH & THE SAHARA

Better than I imagined. The trip notes don’t do this trip enough justice!!!

Most Inspirational Moment

Two hour camel trekking into the Sahara and spending the night in a Bedouin camp under the stars. Running up the sand dunes to see the sunset and sunrise and another camel trek back again. Loved it!!!!Ait Benhaddou was awesome!!!!

Thoughts on Group Leader

He was an absolute star. He had a sense of humour, was friendly and was there for us all the way :)

Advice for Potential Travellers

Enjoy...Enjoy...Enjoy, that is all.

WALKING ON THE GREEK ISLANDS

Awesome, a wonderful expierence captured in my memory to last for a lifetime. The wildflowers, the scent of citrus, lovely catus and just the overall panoramic views of the islands. I felt inspiredd and energized after walking the most scenic places on earth.

Most Inspirational Moment

The group leader was dynamic, very experience . He used his judgement in keeping us safe and at the same time ensuring that we enjoyed our vacation. Lovely guy and personality. He also has a wealth of knowledge of the islands.

Thoughts on Group Leader

My advice is to follow the trip notes and walk with all of the items listed. I will also suggest wearing long pants for the mountain walks as some places the bushes are overgrown.

Advice for Potential Travellers

A very satisfied customer and will difinetly do crete in the near future.

PETRA & WADI RUM TREK

A fasinating Jordan experience, covering a visit to Mount Musa where Moses had brought the seven tribes of Israel, seeing 3000year old Mosaces, walking in the rocky desert of Waddi Rum, climbing up and over two natural rock bridges, while camping in the desert and being fed Bedouin food reliving the area where Laurance of Arabia assisted the Arabs with their Gurilla war on the railway line. Then it was time to move down to Waddi Musa, first time to clean up from the desert with a Turkish Bath, Scrub Down and Massage, refreshed we experienced Petra by night, followed next day with plenty of time to explore in daylight. All this in our six days in this friendly country, by the way I am 66 and looking forward to my next trip to walk the great walls of China this September aged 67. I am having the time of my life, I recommend making the most of these experiences.

Most Inspirational Moment

Petra by day.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our leader Salah a Jordanian was friendly, helpfull and extremly knowlegable and happy to share it with me.

Advice for Potential Travellers

For extra comfort when sleeping in the desert take a camping mat to spread the weight over the open cell foam matras for a better nights sleep.

WALKING IN MADEIRA

We enjoyed long hikes and beautiful scenery.  It was especially nice because each hike went to a location that was completely different from the other hikes.  Our guide was knowledgeable and attentive.  The people of Madeira were warm and friendly.

Most Inspirational Moment

The morning we got up early to have a hike and watch the sunrise.  We were on a mountain peak with clouds at our feet and waited to watch the sunrise.  It was beautiful.  A moment we won't forget.

Thoughts on Group Leader

He was very knowledgeable.  He advised us when we needed to take care and kept an eye on the entire group and assessed each of our abilities.  He was a pleasure to listen to and answered all of our questions.  He had a great personality and was easy going and had a great sense of humor.  We all enjoyed him very much.  Also, he was very accurate on telling us the length of hikes, the time it would take, what we should wear or have in our backpacks (just in case), etc.  He was also always willing to suggest restaurants for lunches and dinners.  When hiking, if he saw other groups, he was good at keeping us either ahead or well behind them.  He was always able to find us a quiet spot for our picnics on the hikes.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be in shape.  Take snacks for your hikes since the box lunches provided by hotels aren't very good (unless you like a lot of bread).  You can buy great fresh fruit, veg, nuts, crackers, etc., at local stores.   Layer clothing, in the mornings you may be cold, but once you hike, you warm up.  Also, depending on if you are on the north or south sides of a mountain, you might be in sun one moment and then shade the next.  Also, breezes cool you down instantly.  We all had backpacks and found ourselves switching clothes quite regularly on each hike.

DUBROVNIK & THE DALMATIAN COAST

It was a really good way of getting a flavour of the Dalmatian coast and Croatia without the hassle of researching and organising it myself.

Most Inspirational Moment

I had no idea how lovely Dubrovnik is - until I got there.

Thoughts on Group Leader

The group leader was an experienced and well-informed guide who never imposed but was always there when I needed information or help. He also had a good sense of humour!

Advice for Potential Travellers

It is helpful to know that the season in these parts doesn't begin till May. In April you will miss the crowds but lots of the restaurants and tourist attractions are closed.

CYCLE SOUTHERN INDIA - COAST TO COAST

A Brilliant holiday , well organised and with good accomodation. We stayed in two really amazing places and the rest of the accomodation was good. The holiday has a lot of riding and is low on bus transfers. We visited lots of temples, a tea factory and wild life park and all added to the experience.

Most Inspirational Moment

The most amazing day was the ride through the tea plantations, the sun was shining , the women were out picking the tea and the whole area looked perfectley manicured. There were also some numerous undulations which made a great ride.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Peter the leader was absolutely great. Our trip was the second one run and he was continually tweeking and asking for feedback.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It Can be very hot for the April/May departure, a camelbak is usefiul to keep hydrated. If you feel you might be suffering from het exhaustion don't be afraid to use the airconditioned bus.Using hand gel before eating and for after loo stops wise. We had no serious stomach problems despite all the roadside snacks we sampled.Lots to photograph on the way so a camera that fits in the pocket is much more useful than a SLR ATM,s were a bit haphazard and sometimes it was necessary to try three before getting any money. Probably useful to have some hard currency just in case. In Kochi the palace and symague are closed Friday /Saturday so if you want to visit go Thursday, when you arrive.
