A WEEK IN JORDAN

A busy week’s sightseeing, taking in all the highlights of Jordan.  A full itinerary, but still plenty oftime for people wanting to chill out as well as taking in all the sights.

Most Inspirational Moment

The most inspiration moment was seeing just how huge the Petra sight was, we think of it as just the Treasury, it is so much more had to be seen to be believed. The Dead Sea, the Red Sea, Crusader Forts, camels and donkey rides. Just so much it was an incredible adventure.

Khalid was informative, interesting, and hilarious in equal measure.  He created quite a splash with the locals wherever we went, being personally known to almost everyone everywhere we stopped - including the boat crew.  What they don't tell you in the brochure is that every tour involving American, English or Aussie tourists must - by order of the Jordanian government - be accompanied by a tourist policeman.  Our policeman was a lovely guy who joined in with the tour when we got the the bedoun camp dancing around the fire with us.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just do it, you will never regret it.

A WEEK IN JORDAN

This was a fantastic trip and very good value for money, you see and do so much. Brilliant!

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking down the siq for our first glimpse of The Treasury for the Petra by candlelight evening.Exploring Petra, especially the 'adventure hike' we did to the high places above The Treasury. The night spent at Wadi Rum and seeing the amazing starlit sky.

Dani was just brilliant. He truly loved his country and was very knowledgeable. He was fun to be with and looked after us all very well. He was caring and considerate.

Advice for Potential Travellers

As we went in February and north Jordan had snow, I would suggest plenty of layers with more warm clothes than you might expect to pack. Take a good sleeping bag for the night in Wadi Rum. Comfy walking shoes/boots essential.

A WEEK IN JORDAN

A great week with a good variety of things to see and do.

Most Inspirational Moment

Exploring Petra, particularly getting up into the hills to get the full sense of the scale of the site.  Sleeping under the stars in the Wadi Rum and riding a camel as the sun came up.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Full of stories and interesting bits of information to keep us entertained.

A WEEK IN JORDAN

The first glimpse of the Treasury at Petra is jaw dropping, but Petra has so many more amazing sights. And Petra is not the only attraction of Jordan. Jerash, the Dead Sea and Wadi Rum are all experiences not to be missed

Most Inspirational Moment

Petra is the jewej of Jordan and walking down the Siq at night , lit only by candles, is awe inspiring and then to see the Treasury also lit by thousands of candles is simply breath taking

Thoughts on Group Leader

Danny was very friendly and approachable, with excellent knowledge of all the sights we visited. If anything he knew so much that he continued his talk on the coach preventing us travellers from having a snooze !

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go for it ! this is a real joy and a week to remember for ever. When at Petra, take the walk past the Royal Palaces to the top of the cliff to see the Treasury from above. It is steep and difficult at times, but well worth the effort.

A WEEK IN JORDAN

A great week full of varied activities, amazing sights, fantastic food and wonderful local people. Great guide could not have done more to accomodate the whole groups needs. I would happily go back to Jordan to spend more time hiking.

Most Inspirational Moment

Ascending to the top of Aarons Tomb for 360 degree views as far as the eye could see. This was an optional hike but the whole Petra area is a real highlight.

Khaled - Wonderful, warm, intelligent, humorous, well educated confident and capable. A genuinely nice bloke.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Veggie heaven - mezze is amazing! Don't worry about the "Arab spring" - you will be safer in Jordan than you are in the uk. Be prepared for low water pressure in the hotel showers, but it is a desert country after all! The two full days spent in Petra are the really great advantage of this particular tour. Ive talked to people who have been to Petra with other tour operators and they have not had the experience that we did!

A WEEK IN JORDAN

An amazing week touring across Jordan with highlights every day, take lots of memory cards!

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing the Treasury for the first time in Petra had to be the highlight of the trip. But Petra is so much more than just the Treasury it is also an amazing place to walk around in its own right. The first full day in Jerash was also a great surprise with the ancient city being discovered before our eyes. Oh and floating in the Dead Sea wasn't too bad either and sampling the local sweets, pastries and falafels.

A WEEK IN JORDAN

A well organised,  hassle free week in Jordan. Excellent leader and a happy group . Jordan is an interesting country with good infrastructure and of course has ‘star’ attractions like Petra and Jerash

Most Inspirational Moment

has to be Petra - much bigger than you would expect and was very quiet in December! You are able to get away to unfrequented parts of the site with only a bit of effort .

Thoughts on Group Leader

He was good fun and as you would expect very knowledgeable on his country and region

Advice for Potential Travellers

Jordan is as expensive as Uk for meals and general expenses so don't expect a cheap economy

A WEEK IN JORDAN

A cracking short trip, lots to do, lots to see, great variety. This really exceeded expectations

Most Inspirational Moment

Petra is fantastic - great two days, be prepared to walk alot to see all it has to offer. The night sky in Wadi Rum was stunning, in fact the whole Wadi Rum part was fantastic

Thoughts on Group Leader

Khalid was very good, efficient, always there when needed and made the trip easy.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Suitable for all sorts, we had a mixed age group that got along very well. A headtorch for Wadi Rum is useful.

A WEEK IN JORDAN

An amazing sightseeing trip – lots of busy days and walking, there isn’t much free time.  Lots of hightlights for me – practically everything on the itinerary.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing the Treasury at Petra for the first time.  We did Petra by Night, which whilst quite pricey, is well worth doing for the magical experience.  It is also amazing to see it during daylight for the first time, as well as the high climb on the second day in Petra where you get such a good persepctive on the whole city form up high.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent - Kheled was very informative and helpful.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take bath plugs - most of the hotels don't have them and sometimes the pressure in the showers isn't always great.  It is easy to change money over there Most hotels have UK plug sockets so you don't need to worry about adaptors.

A WEEK IN JORDAN

A busy week’s sightseeing, taking in all the highlights of Jordan.  A full itinerary, but still plenty of R&R and "downtime" for people wanting to chill out as well as taking in all the sights.

Most Inspirational Moment

I think everyone books to go to Jordan because they want to visit Petra.  It doesn't disappoint.  You walk for the best part of three or four kilometres before, as the path (carved out from an old river gulley) winds its way yet again through yet another twist between rose red vertical cliffs, you catch that first glimpse of the Treasury between the walls of the Siq.  And stop to take at least one photo before walking on to gaze up - necks crooked - at the heights of the Treasury and the facing cliffs.  Being there in the week before Christmas in the year of the Arab Spring, there were just no crowds - and very few other people - there with us; the moment was magical.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ala was informative, interesting, and hilarious in equal measure.  A large chap, he created quite a splash with the locals wherever we went, being personally known to almost everyone everywhere we stopped - including the boat crew, who forgave him when he divebombed into the Red Sea and drenched the back of the boat including the BBQ with lunch being prepared!  What they don't tell you in the brochure is that every tour involving American, English or Aussie tourists must - by order of the Jordanian government - be accompanied by a tourist policeman.  That is usually a spotty 18 or 21 year old, newly recruited to the Jordanian police service, who will sit at the front of the bus and fall asleep on long bus journeys.  Ala - bless him - ended up guiding the Exodus tourists in English, and the tourist policemen in Arabic (we had a changeover of policemen mid-trip), with a big smile on his face as he said everything at least three times (some of the tourists were a bit hard of hearing!)

Advice for Potential Travellers

Travel with a smile, and see where the tour takes you.  Be open minded.  Compared to other places in the middle east - or indeed around the world - you really do get "no hassle" in Jordan, Petra aside.  You can't help but smile at Petra as the boys see if you'd like a donkey or camel ride - "air condition taxi, miss?"  In a country where people dress relatively conservatively, follow their customs and you don't get any hassle on the streets and do get a friendly welcome wherever you go.
