Sicilian Volcanoes

A great week touring and trekking the main volcanoes on Vulcano,Stromboli and Etna. The week was really well organised from start to finish and all our family including our daughters of 18 and 21 enjoyed it tremendously.
Our group of fellow travellers were diverse and great fun and this made the trip even better.
We packed so much in to the week we did not have time to worry about tired legs.
Exodus have put together a great trip here.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing Stromboli volcano erupt and glow against the beautiful evening sky then trek back to a restaurant and carry on watching it was amazing. Also seeing the crater of Vulcano and to the top of Etna was brilliant too.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our leader and guide Nicoletta made sure our week was perfect. She attended to all the groups needs and there was nothing that was too much for her.She organised us so well and made all our travelling, transfers straight forward. She was clearly very knowledgable about the volcanoes and area and communicated this effectively to us.

Advice for Potential Travellers

A great trip.I would really encourage anyone thinking of doing it to do it and get it booked. You will not regret it.The temperatures were high when we went in mid July but that is to be expected.

Incredible views, great food and superb leaders

An excellent trip that takes in all of the sites and hikes you would want to do in the Val de Fassa. The trip has two types of walking each day – level 3 and 5, the 5s are a good pace and you need to have a fair level of fitness to participate, they also become more technical which makes them very interesting compared to other holidays.

You visit the Sasso Lungo group, summit Piz Boe, undertake a ridge walk, hike around the Roda de Vael and the views and scenery is just beautiful from start to finish.

The trip has new base at the Hotel Enrosadira in Campitello – the food is absolutely fantastic, as I gather previous travellers had not found the food so good at the last hotel. The hotel staff are very friendly and welcoming. The location is perfect and Campitello has everything you could need.

Most Inspirational Moment

On the free day I undertook an optional, additional via ferrata trip over the Roda de Vael which was an excellent addition to the trip and incredible fun.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Albert and Ingrid were very competent, very friendly and very knowledgeable. On our departure, Albert led the level 5 group walks - which is what we did everyday. His hikes got progressively better, took in all the sites you would want to see and gradually built your confidence, going over increasingly more technical ground. He made the whole experience excellent.

Advice for Potential Travellers

You must buy public transport ticket, which is 68 Euros, so be prepared for this.

Embrace the unknown!

Don’t let the fact that you almost certainly know nothing about Albania (and if you do, it’s probably wrong) put you off this trip. If you like cycling, embracing the unknown, don’t mind a few steep hills, and are prepared to take things as they come, then this is the holiday for you! So many positives about this holiday: fantastic fresh, local food and drink (and outstanding coffee), exploring new cultures, mountains, beaches, and above all a great adventure.

Most Inspirational Moment

The Llogara Pass was definitely challenging (especially in April, when it got very very cold - though apparently it can be just as challenging in mid-summer when it's very very hot) but making it all the way to the top without walking or getting in the bus (even if at the pace of an injured snail) and the support from everyone else was fantastic. We didn't hang around long enough to enjoy the view at the top as it was so cold, but I'm sure it was lovely (the views on the way up were awesome, in between the rain).

Thoughts on Group Leader

Literally could not fault Junid - he was super organised, friendly, sociable, and always happy to try to find a solution to any problem.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared! Around Easter, the temperature can vary between factor 50 suncream and 4 layers of clothing in the course of a single day (and at night it can get quite chilly, since some of the hotels had no heating). be prepared for things to not work and roll with it (e.g. power cuts, dodgy showers etc.) If that's not your cup of tea, then you may want to reconsider. The trip isn't hard for the grading, but there are a couple of challenging hills in there, so have a practise on a few first, or hit the gym. Packing a few energy gels will help also. Also, get enough money for your trip at the airport, as there are few opportunities to use a cash machine along the way. On the other hand, there's almost no opportunity to buy anything, so you won't spend much.

amalfi aventure

Had a lovely time in Amalfi. Hotel staff was wonderful, trip had good balance between adventure, views, walks, cultural interest and food. The group was amazing and the group leader was fantastic. The trip would have not been as fun and cheeky if Severio hadn’t been our group leader. Thanks to his knowledge and fun personality we had a great time. we had a great time in Amalfi and would recommend it to all my friends. Thank you as well to all the new friends we made on this trip. All were great fun and we had such a laugh ,,,, we leave it at that …. we wont mention any names …

Most Inspirational Moment

Vesuvius walk was a great moment

Thoughts on Group Leader

The group leader was excellent - top marks all the way

Advice for Potential Travellers

if going in the summer, plenty of water and sun protector. enjoy the food and the views are amazing, take the trip ....

Fabulous holiday

We have just spent a lovely week in the Dolomites, the scenery was amazing, the hotel very comfortable with plenty of delicious food, the guides were great and we walked with a fantastic group of folk.

Most Inspirational Moment

Not really a moment, just the overall fantastic views.

Thoughts on Group Leader

We had 2 group leaders, Ingrid and Albert. Both well organised, friendly and knowledgeable

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take waterproofs, we didn't need them but if you do, then you properly do!

Tour de Mont Blanc Hotel Trek

Absolutely fantastic trek. With only two exceptions we had beautiful weather for the whole trip even though the forecast had been varied. The grading of challenging / moderate was spot on and at times it felt tough but the spectacular scenery all around and the sense of achievement more than compensated for the harder parts. Loved every minute of it.

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching the top of the Col De Tricot! Cow bells clanging in flower filled meadows, Glaciers that felt that they were within in touching distance.. sunshine lighting up snow covered peaks... myrtle tarts at the refuges... Actually there were so many fantastic moments that it is hard to differentiate but getting to the top of the Col was pretty special.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Paul kept us organised and safe, he made sure that all the group achieved their goals and we all learned a lot about wild flowers and trees!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Do the trip.. Make sure that you have a reasonable level of fitness, it isn't easy walking but it is doable and the rewards are worth it. It's one of the best treks that I've done. Don't take too much clothing, there really isn't any need to 'dress up' in the evenings although you might want something clean for the free days unless you are planning on walking then too. Thermal Spa at St Gervais was a lovely distraction on one free day and good for soothing aching joints.

Mont Blanc Highlights

An overall wonderful experience with magnificent scenery and food for such a reasonably priced tour.
The walking was a bit harder than the moderate rating given to it
The accommodation although basic chalet style was adequate but was more than made up for by the charm and efficiency of our hosts, Sara and Rich.
The gourmet evening meals provided by Sara were consistently amazing.
I would highly recommend the tour based on Sara and Rich being your hosts at the chalet.

Most Inspirational Moment

The most inspirational moments, and totally unexpected based on the tour price, were the variety, gourmet quality and deliciousness of the evening meals provided by Sara. She is an absolute star! I must also add that the amazing scenery ran a very close second. Every vista is a picture postcard.

Thoughts on Group Leader

I thought that our tour leader was probably the weakest part of the tour even though he was a very nice and friendly person and tried his best. He appeared inexperienced in the role even though he seemed to know the area we were walking in. His communication skills were lacking and us such did not convey the type of walks we would be doing each day very well. He seemed to keep changing his mind on various aspects of each walk. as they progressed. When I fell behind on the long downhill sections due to knee soreness he did not come back to see how I was progressing even though the group did wait for me further down.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Even though it has a moderate rating I would suggest more training beforehand. Also, if someone has knee issues it would be best to avoid this trip due to the very long downhill sections of about 2.5 to 3 hours at the end of every day.

Pleasure in Pulglia

Exceptional. This is the first time that we have used this company and we found the experience wonderful. The group size was perfect, great itinerary, activities better than expected, all enhanced by the enthusiastic group leader as well as the local guides.

Most Inspirational Moment

Matera is an exceptional place. The story behind the sassi with their troglodyte dwellings and the subsequent displacement of the inhabitants was fascinating. We were lucky also to experience the Festa della Bruna.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader was fantastic. As an experienced small group traveler I have had many different leaders. I can say without doubt our leader was better than of all previous ones.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Puglia was hot. I would advise travelers planning to go there in July to be prepared for this possibility.

Puglia: Discover the Heel of Italy - ADE (20)

We had a wonderful week in a part of Italy that was new to us.

Most Inspirational Moment

We have done eleven previous group trips with companies like Intrepid and Explore and Marinella was way better than any previous leader. Whether it's through local knowledge or willingness to do lots of preparation I don't know, but we were inspired by the way Marinella was able to make places come alive when she introduced us to them.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Marinella was a wonderful leader - full of enthusiasm, patience, good humour and energy. Her goal was to ensure that every guest had the best possible time. She mixed easily and confidently with all guests and always helped out if there was a problem.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you find extreme heat difficult, travel before June.

Stunning scenery and epic hills in extreme heat

This was our 5th cycling trip with Exodus and the most surprisingly fun. Despite an uncharacteristic heatwave in early July, which meant our first day took us up very challenging hills in 37 degree heat and forced some cyclists to abandon their bikes for the van, we all bonded as a group and had as much fun in the evenings as we did pedalling through the stunning scenery of Albania.

Most Inspirational Moment

The sense of achievement on reaching the summit of the final day's epic climb towards Vlore.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Dhimo was delightful. Coped calmly with all the usual dramas of a cycling holiday despite his youth (26).

Advice for Potential Travellers

Make sure you're hill-fit as it's a very challenging trip, especially in the heat.
