Good variation day-to-day

The farmhouse rooms were fairly basic but were clean and cosy. The dinners were delicious. Good balance of walking and visiting on this trip. It was also nice to start/end walks in the little village coffee shops.

Most Inspirational Moment

Crossing the bridge at the end of el Caminito del Rey (Chorro Gorge) and the Grazalema Natural Park

Thoughts on Group Leader

Whilst Mike was very knowledgeable, engaging and fun, the moment things were not going to plan his attitude changed quite quickly. Some group members picked up on this and it put them off approaching him for anything throughout the trip. Poor time management on one of the walks, led to the group being rushed which wasn't ideal after weeks of torrential rain and very slippery terrain.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Although we had pretty landscapes during the walks (olive groves, mountains) on some occasions it resembled the British countryside, so if you're looking for a trip with stunning scenery at every corner, this isn't it. Optional afternoon in Rhonda was fab, we recommend going! Having done several exodus trips before, whilst there were a couple of level 4 moments, the rest of the walks were more a level 3.

Fabulous guide; wonderful country and people. Just do it!

One of the best group trips (and I have been on quite a few) I have done simply due to the wonderful country, lovely warm locals, excellent guide and fun fellow travellers! We travelled on many modes of transport – bus, boat (motor, kayak, paddle), train, plane, bike, foot – saw a wide variety of landscapes – countryside, small villlages, big cities – learned (more) about the old and new history of this incredible country and experienced a wide variety of foods. We did visit some homes and centres where the locals showed us how they made items such as clay pots, toffee brittle, embroidery paintings etc; never was there pressure to purchase anything which made the experience that more enjoyable. This trip has everying – just do it!

Most Inspirational Moment

It was all inspiring and exciting for me.

Thanh Vo was excellent, full of energy and so enthusiastic about his own country; one of the best guides I have met. Thanh always shared information about where we were, what we were passing or what we were looking at as well as ensuring we were well prepared for the next day along with constant reminders throughout the day. He took personal care to ensure that us few pescatarians and vegetarians did not accidentally end up with with 'wrong' food and selected a good variety of restaurants for group meals. He gave us space to do our own things at the different sites and accommodations but was always in the background when needed or to help us from getting lost! This trip took a lot of organisation - scheduling of optional tours, buses, boat, bikes and trains etc - which he did behind the scenes and everything worked like clockwork. All this along with Thanh's great sense of humour made for a really relaxed and enjoyable trip.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The optional bike tour of Hoi An was great fun (and the bike seats were wide!); it was more than a bike tour. I brought my own gel cycle seat for the Day 11 & 12 which helped with the narrow seats on the mountain bikes. Try the iced coffee and passion fruit juice - both delicious. All the accommodation (homestay, boat & hotels) provided good and warm bedding (we were in the north in March and it was chilly) and towels. However, I still found my sheet sleeping bag useful for the homestay visits.

What a wonderful journey! this cycling trip in Sri Lanka was truly an unforgettable experience. The beautiful green landscapes, picturesque villages, very friendly locals and the excellent food made every moment of the journey special. Cycling through the tea plantations in the hill country was a highlight, as well as exploring the ancient ruins and riding along rice fields and tea or banana plantations. the Ayurveda massages, offered at the hotels, were great as well.

Most Inspirational Moment

too many to list... I really loved the peaceful atmosphere at the Buduruwagala temple, and the slower cycling on the backroads along small rivers, rice fields and tea plantations.

Thoughts on Group Leader

the team was great and super friendly. I always felt safe and the support during the cycling was excellent. Most remarkable was the group lead Suresh. He has great knowledge, a smile for everyone and exceptional organizational skills. He would always go the extra mile to show us something special on the way, where to find beautiful handmade souvenirs, offering an additional walk in the afternoon or get us to places with great food or drinks.

Advice for Potential Travellers

its hot and humid, therefore cycling on tarmac can get challenging. arriving a few days earlier is a good idea to adjust to time zone and climate.

A magical trip - best guide EVER!

We had a truly wonderful time travelling around Jordan. Our trip was really enhanced by our fabulous guide, Muayad, who made every day very special as he made huge efforts to provide us with unique insights into Jordanian life and history. It was Ramadan when we travelled and it was not easy to provide meals during the day, buy Muayad worked his magic and we had some fantastic picnic spots eating Jordanian breads, hummus and other local treats. Muayad was incredibly knowledgeable and I feel I have returned to the UK with a deeper understanding of the Jordanian culture and history. The whole trip was meticulously planned and every day had superb highlights, such as camel riding in Wadi Rum, trekking up to the Monastery at Petra, the first glimpse of the Treasury at Petra and the incredible Roman ruins at Jerash. We packed so much into a week but didn’t ever feel rushed.

Most Inspirational Moment

So many... eating dinner with the Jordanian family - first glimpse of the Treasury at Petra - speeding across the Wadi Rum in the back of a truck...!

Thoughts on Group Leader

FABULOUS. The best tour leader we could have hoped for. Muayad's scope of knowledge was huge and his enthusiasm was tangible. A wonderful guide who brought the history and culture of Jordan to life.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just book it!

Alexandria to Aswan

Excellent, well conducted trip

Most Inspirational Moment

so many - Abu Simbel and all the sights; and the activity on the streets

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent, well organised, knowledgeable and fun.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Stomach disorders are a fact of life for travel in countries like Egypt, no matter how careful you are. Take medication with you. Also, look carefully at airline prices to get to Egypt from UK and then subsequent taxi airport to hotel. British Airways are half the price of Egyptair; local taxi agencies compare favorably with Exodus quoted prices: $18 against $142!

Good Morning Vietnam! An Amazing Experience

We cannot recommend this trip highly enough to anyone who is looking for an activity-based holiday which provides the opportunity to experience a broad range of what Vietnam and its amazing people have to offer. We loved every minute and given the chance we would not hesitate to do it all over again.

Most Inspirational Moment

There were so many inspiring moments it is difficult to choose one, but if we had to, it would have to be completing the 10km ascent of Hai Van Pass and enjoying the incredible views on the way down. We came home and re-watched the Top Gear Vietnam Special for which this experience was a highlight for the presenters too.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Son Nguyen was incredible. He was super-organised and everything ran like clockwork. Having said this, we appreciate how much effort had been put in by Son and his team to make the whole trip run smoothly and to make the holiday such a wonderful experience.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Although the trip is rated as Moderate, the heat and humidity at the end of March made it, we would say, slightly more of a challenge. For anyone who lives, like us, in a part of the country with very few hills to practise on, a few spinning classes beforehand might be a good idea.

Fab trip

What a fantastic two weeks we had in Vietnam made all the more special by our lovely group and excellent guide. We had a great mix of activities from trekking to kayaking, temples to palaces. Buses, boats , trains aeroplanes and not forgetting bicycles. So many highlights to create some lasting memories. We sampled lots of authentic food and had a good mix of traditional to fancier restaurants. So good to stay at the homesteads and support the local people as well as some lovely hotels esp Hoi An.

Most Inspirational Moment

Visiting the homesteads and eating some amazing food cooked simply and served with love

Thoughts on Group Leader

THANH was brilliant, nothing was too much for him, a truly great chap.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Keep your packing simple..lots of one night stays so you are always moving your bag. Most important don't miss out on this trip!

factual

the trip was as advertised

Thoughts on Group Leader

good

Stunning cherry blossom

I enjoyed my trip. I had not considered the impact of the trip relying on public transport. Also, there were fewer opportunities to eat dinner as a group with the leader which I suspect reflects how busy it is in Japan. On previous trips with Exodus, I have particularly enjoyed learning about the local way of life from a local guide but realistically on this mode of transport there was very little opportunity to have that insight even if the guide had been local.

Most Inspirational Moment

Cherry blossom at Kamakura

Thoughts on Group Leader

Charles was an adequate tour leader. I do feel that leading a group using public transport in a very busy country is very challenging.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I feel there is a real need to ensure that wifi connection is available to access Google maps. I did not anticipate how much free time there would be; Google maps is really essential. Research and booking of activities before leaving for the trip would ensure best use of free time. There was no option to go to a tea ceremony as advised in the trip notes. There were other activities which perhaps could be shared e.g. team labs.

Thank you for sharing your feedback on your recent trip to Japan. We’re glad to hear that you enjoyed your time, but we also acknowledge the areas where your experience didn’t fully meet expectations.

While the use of public transport is the most efficient way to navigate the country, we understand the challenges associated with relying on public transport, especially during peak travel seasons in Japan and while it offers a glimpse into daily life, it can sometimes limit opportunities for in-depth cultural interactions. We have recently taken steps to address these concerns by reducing group sizes and revisiting some logistical aspects of the itinerary to make the experience more comfortable and enriching for our travellers.

With regards to the free time, we’ve received similar feedback earlier this year regarding the need for more detailed suggestions in the trip notes for free days. In response, we’ve worked closely with our local team to enhance our day-to-day itinerary descriptions. We’ve now added many more suggestions and details to help you make the most of your free time, with activities that are both realistic in terms of timing and availability.

Your feedback is invaluable in helping us improve, and we hope these changes will enhance the experience for future travellers. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts!

A great week

Varied walking in mountainous and coastal scenery. Good to have the opportunity for city viewing in Palma and Soller. Some rocky descents which were quite challenging as required a lot of concentration.

Most Inspirational Moment

The windy summit on the final day's walk

Thoughts on Group Leader

Jacob was efficient and organised.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Boots with a good ankle support , I think, are essential. A pole helps with the descents which, especially on the 2nd day , were quite long and a bit arduous . They demanded a lot of concentration so watching your feet rather than the view was required. Not many wild flowers to see on this 1st Easter departure date but a good temperature for walking. The wooded sections would provide much needed shade later into the early summer.
