'crampons' for Gokyo Lakes/Everest Base Camp trek

The trip notes for this trek advise `instep crampons, Yaktrax of Spikeys or similar' to use when crossing the Cho La. I have Yaktrax and they're great for winter use in hilly sheffield. But are they really adequate for the Cho La? For example, whilst they're great on compacted city snow, they skitter on hard ice. I've also had a pair come off in deep snow. Does anyone have any experience of the Cho La (we'll be crossing it in October) and advice for best grippers for footwear?

Thanks.
