DRAKENSBERG & THE KRUGER

Hello everyone.

As I have just received my reminder to pay the balance for the trip, it can't be long before we will be meeting. So - as someone has to be the first to post on this forum, it might as well be me. Why not introduce yourselves, so we have a first point of contact?

So this is me. I am Jon(athan) - I am 64, semi-retired and hoping that not too many of you are older, as I may have to play the age card on some of the hills. Similarly, I am hoping that you aren't all super-competitive youngsters. That would be just humiliating. I have been on one Exodus cycling trip before - to Vietnam about 3 years ago - and it was so enjoyable and well-organised that I thought I would try another while I still can. Have any of you done this before? One thing I would definitely recommend is that it is worth taking your own saddle (and pedals, particularly if you use cleats). This time, I am taking a risk and bringing the whole bike. It will be the first time that I have taken one on a plane, and I am hoping it gets there undamaged.

I have been to SA a couple of times in recent years. For those who haven't visited, I am sure you will enjoy it, especially the landscape. But I haven't cycled there, so this will be all new for me. I shall be arriving about a week ahead of the start of the trip (staying with friends in Jo'burg beforehand) and so I will be meeting you at the airport - hopefully with my bike. I look forward to that.

And what about you?

Jon

Hi Jon, I'll be joining you on the trip. Really looking forward to it as this will be my first visit to South Africa. It's my second cycling trip (I did my first one last year to Sri Lanka and survived, and it was great) so I'll probs be behind you on those hills! (plus I'm used to riding on the flat). See everyone in a week or so!
