Venezuela activity holidays from the adventure travel experts at Exodus. Venezuela is about four times the size of Britain, but with only 17 million inhabitants, 75% of them urban, it is one of the least densely populated countries of the American continent. In natural endowments, however, Venezuela is unquestionably rich, offering almost every type of scenery to be found on the continent.

The Andes: the most northerly extension of the great South American range covers the north-western part of Venezuela, whose main city is the attractive colonial centre of Mérida.

Llanos: Swampy flood-plains in the wet season, grassy pastureland in the dry, they are home to millions of cows and a vast array of wildlife, with more than 500 species of birds, countless caiman and capybaras, as well as more exotic species such as the jaguar, ocelot and honey bear.

Jungles and rivers: the country's main artery, the Orinoco, is one of the great rivers of the continent.

The Grand Savannah: this unique area in the uplands of the south east is part of a National Park the size of Belgium. This is a weird, other-wordly environment which was Conan Doyle's Lost World.
