Would be good to hear from some people who would be joining me on the Cycle Vietnam tour on the 27th April (although I can see from the drop down list it states the 28th, weird!)
Glad to see I'm not the only one going on this trip lol :) I booked my flights independantly from Exodus but my outgoing flight happens to be the same one with Malaysian airways leaving at midday arriving at 10am. Are you flying out of Heathrow?
Very much looking forward now, although going for extreme cold weather to very hot! :)
Yeah, there's at least two of us now :)) Thanks for the info, I booked the whole thing through a Spanish agency, as I live in Spain, but I will be flying from Heathrow too, I just need to book my flight to London now, it's all a bit complicated but hopefully I should make it :) I can't wait for a bit of super hot weather myself, fed up with the cold and rain... I'm more worried about the jet lag, I'll probably be like a zombie and end up spending half the time sleeping on the bus lol
Yes jet lag will hit us, you have an extra long journey coming from Spain. Are you breaking it up by arriving in London for a few days first? I haven't really managed any long rides. I only cycle an all round trip of 14 miles 4 days a week to work. Am hoping the trip won't be too much of a struggle :) At least we have the bus to rescue us.
I don't do much in the way of long rides either, just a little daily cycle to school (which is just 3 or 4 miles at the most)... I was hoping to go out on the bike a bit more at weekends to prepare for this trip, but the weather is not being very helpful so I don't know that I'm really in the best state of fitness for this... but hey. I'll do my best :) We still have a few weeks to try and train a bit... I'll be happy if I can manage at least one or two days without being picked up by the bus, I think :)
The journey from Spain is only about a couple of hours, so shouldn't add too much stress, but I think I'll fly there at least one day in advance, in case there are any delays...
Are you getting any vaccines or antimalarials? I still haven't seen the docs here about it, I'm told none are really a requirement but I'm thinking maybe hep A is a good idea.
Yes I am getting vaccines...have been advised by the Dr. to have Hep A, polio, typhoid and diphtheria. I willbe taking malaria tablets as well just in case to be on the safe side. Well it's good to be in touch with someone who is going on the same trip, at least we have each other so far.lol.
Hi, sorry, been disconnected for a while... Yes, I guess I'll be getting some of those jabs too, seeing the doc next week.
I'm sure there has to be more people in this group, I wonder where they are all hiding ;)) By the way I was getting a bit worried seeing recent news about Korea, I guess it wouldn't affect us directly, at least Spain hasn't changed the recommendations about travelling there, bu tstill, it is a little close...
How are you getting on with "training"? I am trying to do a few more kms everyday now that the weather is a little less horrible, just not to be too embarrassingly unfit when we get there :)
I decided against the malaria tablets myself as the nurse said we weren't travelling in malaria areas as our cycle is along the coast. My training isn't really happening at mo I went out for an hour the other day with the intention of staying out two but it was freezing cold to the point I couln't feel my fingers or toes. Hope it will warm up in the next week or so. Would love to get out for longer periods of time on the bike.
Hi Fi :)
Right, I will mention that about malaria to the doc here when I see them on Monday, I'd rather not take any more drugs than necessary... I think what I will take is some melatonin for the jet lag. And I will need some travel sickness tablets for when we go on the bus, I am pretty bad travelling in cars and things that run on petrol in general, especially in little curvy roads... So I will get drugged for that lol.
Yeah, it's got really cold again here, so no much cycling in the last couple of days... But I am going out on the bike this weekend rain or snow, I need to start getting my legs in gear!!!
Hi Maria, Fi,
My husband Rob and I are two more last minute cyclists. Apparently there are 7 of us. We are both excited about the trip and rushing around now trying to get sorted out and are looking forward to meeting you.
Hi Alison and Rob,
It's good to know there isn't only two of us after all :-)) Only a few days left now, can't wait!!! See you guys on Saturday!
Lovely to hear from you Alison, glad to know that both you and your husband are joining me and Maria. I am doing some short rides leading up to departure Sat hope we are all prepared, it's the humidity that will be the killer. Are you getting the same flight as me and Maria? We depart from Heathrow at midday arrive Ho chi ming at 10am?
Hope you're doing well Maria and sorted your vaccines? :)
We have been road cycling in France and plenty of gym work, so we are quietly confident about the rides. Like you it is the heat and humidity that bothers us most and we can't really prepare for that!
We are on the midday flight with Malaysian Airlines from Heathrow, so I guess we are on the same flight.
We are all vaccinated but waiting for the visa.
We're really looking forward to the trip and meeting everyone.
Hello all :)
Wow, looks like everyone is going to be much fitter than me, I hope I don't become some nuisance hold-up! I have managed to do a bit of training now that the sun has come out, but nothing spectacular... Are you taking your own bikes? I'm just taking my comfy gel saddle...
Yep, got my vaccines, insect repellents and the lot :)
Looking forward to meeting you all :)
No, we are using Exodus' bikes.
see you Saturday
