Everest Base Camp 28 Feb-18 Mar

Hi,

Is anyone out there joining me on this trip? I've only just booked it and was really excited until it sunk in that it is less than 6 weeks to the departure date! It should be a great experience though.

hi

I would love to go to see Everest someday . Very envious of you. Hope you have a great time, and please post when you return to say how you got on.

Hi Craig

Will let you know how we get on when I get back (and recovered!). I did Kili in Jan last year so at least have an idea of what to expect at altitude. I see from your profile you are also going to Kili soon. I'll post on you forum with some bits of advice. You'll love it I'm sure!

Hi,

I will be joining you on the Everest trip, as long as I dont go into a blind panic and bottle it that is;-)

Hi

Good to hear from somebody on the trip. When I booked they told me that the other people booked on the trip were a couple in their 30/40s, a man in his 50s and one in his 20s (which I'm guessing is you) so it's a pretty small group unless anyone else has booked since. I guess not many people book a trip like this as a 'last minute holiday' though! I think I was crazy enough deciding to book it with only 6 weeks to go. Have you done anything like this before?

Hi,

Sorry for the slow reply, I've traveled a bit but not a vast amount Dehli is as far east as I have gone but I was with family and I've done done a bit of walking mostly in Scotland, so i think this trip will push all that tiny experience to the limit;-) I'm full of questions and it seems you have treked at hight before;-)

Hi

I did Kilimanjaro in Jan 09 which is so far my only experience of trekking at altitude. It was the hardest thing I've ever done and I told myself I wouldn't be in a rush to do altitude and cold again but here I am! My friends say I must be mad and I'm sure there'll be times during the trek I'll be agreeing with them! Kili only takes 6 days so I have never done anything as long as this trip before. Are you taking your own sleeping bag or hiring one there? I only have one good for -7 and as I'm terrible at sleeping in the cold I think I might try to hire one. It sounds like it could be pretty damn cold at night!

If you have any questions I'll do my best to answer them. Only 3 weeks to go....scary!

I looked up the weather for today at base camp and it came up -23 so I guess it does get a bit nippy;-) Planning to take my own sleeping bag as I've never been cold (as yet) in it. I might try to hire one of there coats, I have good water/wind proofs and I was planning to layer up underneath but just read Bear Gryls book on his climb and it does seem essential.

My biggest hang up is how cold does it have to be to get frost bite and if it gets that cold how then does one go to the loo? ;-)

Hi, Rick

we should pass around 13th- 14th so are last days on the trek and your first few steps. I look forward to our meeting. Have you done anything similar to this before?

Departure notes came through today;-D paperwork really does cramp the sense of adventure however essential it may be;-)

Reading Michelle's bit about the composition of the Everest Base Camp group I guess I am the guy in his 50's. I did the Annapurna Sanctuary 2 years ago and had a superb time. The weather as we walked up to Annapurna Base Camp was warm and sunny and I was in a t-shirt, but it did drop well below freezing at night. Didn't have any problems with AMS but I do take ginko biloba each day as my wife says it is good for the memory as you get older. Where was it we are going to? Looking foreward to meeting the rest of you either on the filght if we are all on the same one or in Kathmandu. Get back to me if you think I can help with anything althought but I am away next week.

Hi, Michelle

Have you sorted out your travel to the airport yet? I'm travelling from Norfolk by car so we can pick you up on the way if you need a lift. (you don't live in Aberdean do you? ;-) ).

Now on the final count down look forward to seeing you all;-)
