Hi there ladies,

I'm on the Cycle Cuba holiday which also departs 19th Dec, a different trip to cuban highlights ride but as there are no posts on my trip I wondered if your trip is taking the same flight -virgin Atlantic gatwick-Havana takes off at 11.30am on 19th? -Ill be looking out for fellow travellers in the departure lounge etc as I am also a solo traveller, wanting to do something completely different for Christmas this year. Are you also staying at the Hotel Occidental Miramar, Havana the first night?

Cheers

Emma

Hi Emma & Laraine,

I'm also really looking forward to this. I’ve never been on a cycling holiday so not too sure what to expect. I’ve recently taken up cycling but ride with a club and just did a 94.7k race - took me a long time but hoping my fitness levels are up for this holiday. But I gather the riding is not too difficult.

I’m not travelling with Exodus but I am on the same flight leaving Gatwick. I live in Johannesburg so will get to Gatwick the night before.

Any advice is appreciated. Look forward to meeting you both.

Hi Jaymi,

Thanks for your reply and sorry for delay in my reply, I've just had a very busy few days etc.

Wow, if you've done a 94k race you'll be more than fit enough for the cuban highlights ride. I did a London-Paris organised ride which was 312 miles over 4 days back in September. Since then I've been going to the gym etc but truth be told my fitness is maybe not quite what it was but am not worried, have always found cycling pretty easy. On the London-Paris ride we stayed the night in a different hotel every night, packing up every morning and moving onto a new destination every day can get a little exhausting, as can doing things like hand washing cycle shorts and cycle tops in the hotel room so they are clean enough for another day's cycling. I realise its going to be the same on the Cuba holiday except not nearly as many miles to cycle everyday and some time for chilling and relaxing -hopefully! In many ways though I'm pleased it is a tour type of holiday as being a solo traveller I think doing a tour -esp a cyclng tour- with others brings you closer together as a group as a opposed to everyone staying in the same place the whole time.

They say go with an open mind but I can't help but be a little excited. Everyone I speak to about Cuba says what a great place it is (esp those who've been there!) with wonderfully warm-hearted people who play music and dance salsa and seem to know how to have a good time. The weather should be beautiful too :-)

It should be pretty good I reckon.

Look forward to meeting you. If you want to meet at gatwick airport departure lounge my mobile number is:07814488027

Cheers

Emma
