Libyan Desert Explorer - Preplanning, especially the Visa...

Well, everyone is so surprised when I say I am going to Libya. The photos look lovely, and it is a little unexpected.

My biggest uncertainty is the Arabic Translation Stamp, which isn't explained very clearly anywhere. Is anyone else out there fretting about this? I have the stamp, but I wonder if anything should be written in on the lines between the translation of the words. I think I´ll ask Exodus. A Dummies´ Guide could help to relieve the pressure.

Apart from that, I´m looking forward to the trip immensely.

Hi Pip, I did this trip last year and really enjoyed it. My translation stamp sounds similar to yours so I wouldn't worry, I had mine done through Travcour.

Some advice, listen to your guide about how much money to change at the Airport. Once you've left Tripoli there aren't any opportunities to change money until you return again at the end of the trip. We had Abdul as our guide (I think he is the main guide for this trip) and he was good. Also remember to take toilet paper or tissues, we had one guy who didn't bring any or a towel for the few nights we stayed in desert huts where there were showers. Sleeping under the stars was great so I would try it if the nights aren't too windy. I'd love to go back and will do the coastal trip sometime. Libyan people are so friendly.

Dear Rachel,

Thanks for the background information. this will help a lot. It has gone from being on the distant Horizon to being only a couple of weeks away. I'm particularly looking forward to the Desert time, but I expect that Tripoli will surprise me too!
